"Can I go see Naruto?" Minato asked suddenly. He'd picked up on something—the man in front of him might know Naruto. Maybe that connection would get his request approved. "I know I wasn't a good father, but… there are things I want to say to him."
Hyuga Gakuya rolled his eyes.
"What a joke. What, you think I'll let you go back just so you can pass messages to Konoha? Don't worry—Naruto almost lost control for a moment, but the chakra you left behind saved him. He's with Jiraiya now, training."
Minato let out a breath. "So you even know about the chakra I left him…"
"No shit. I also know Kushina left some too."
"There's still a bond between you all and this world," Gakuya went on, voice turning cold. "So when I'm in a bad mood and decide to destroy Konoha, I'll have the First and Second kill Tsunade, the Third kill Asuma, and the Fourth… kill Naruto."
"You bastard!" All four Hokage roared in fury.
Gakuya smiled darkly. "Think I won't do it?"
"Enough chit-chat. You lot can go back to your coffins now." He clapped his hands.
Four coffins rose from the ground, swallowing the former Hokage whole.
"Your ambition will never succeed," Hiruzen Sarutobi spat before the lid closed. "Someone will stop you."
Gakuya sneered. "You really think I'm the only threat to the shinobi world? You'd better hope my plan works… because if it doesn't, the entire world is finished."
Without waiting for their reactions, the coffin lids slammed shut, sealing them inside.
...
"Kabuto, have you found the one I'm looking for?"
The person Gakuya was referring to was named Jigen.
Long ago, during the ancient era of the shinobi world, Ōtsutsuki Isshiki and Ōtsutsuki Kaguya had come together to plant the God Tree. Kaguya, meant to be the tree's sacrifice, betrayed Isshiki and ambushed him, leaving him gravely wounded.
To survive, Isshiki was forced to use a divine technique called Karma to parasitize Jigen's body.
Now, he lay dormant, awaiting the perfect vessel for his true resurrection. Gakuya's plan was to find him—and devour him. He didn't yet have the strength to kill Isshiki, but one day, he would.
"Not yet," Kabuto replied.
"Then keep looking. But do not alert him."
"Understood. I told my subordinates we're searching for the Sage of Six Paths' relics." Kabuto nodded and left to continue the task.
Now alone, Gakuya leaned back in his chair, deep in thought.
Isshiki could transfer his consciousness into Jigen's body using Karma if threatened. But he only had three days of life remaining. During those three days, he could regain his full strength—but he'd also need to find a new vessel to imprint Karma onto.
If Gakuya wanted his body, he had to strike at the exact moment of resurrection.
"Ōtsutsuki parasites must have very strict requirements. A new host has to be permanent—someone who can withstand the burden. Not like Jigen, a temporary shell."
"But with my current power, I might not even be able to force Isshiki to reincarnate. In Boruto, it was Jiraiya's clone who summoned natural flames while Isshiki was still weak, forcing the transfer."
Suddenly, Gakuya thought of someone—Obito Uchiha, and the ability of his Sharingan: Kamui.
"Looks like Obito's outlived his usefulness."
That eye would be his best tool.
He might even be able to transplant its ability into his own Mangekyō—but first, he needed a method for transplanting ocular powers between Uchiha, and he needed Obito's Sharingan.
(Uchiha Hikari had multiple ocular powers that were transplanted into her by Uchiha clansmen during the Warring States era.)
All the Uchiha clan's research was either with Obito or locked away in Konoha.
Gakuya's own Mangekyō Sharingan granted him the Toki no Kage, which could freeze surrounding space—a hard counter to Kamui.
Tenseigan's raw power was enough to break through even Susanoo, while Kamui could only distort what it could see.
"White Zetsu."
"Yes, boss?" A White Zetsu rose from the floor near Gakuya's feet.
"Go get Black Zetsu for me."
"On it!"
White Zetsu immediately slipped back into the ground to carry out the order.
Gakuya sat in silence, waiting.
Before long, the familiar figure appeared—half white, half black.
"Did you find the underground spring on the moon?" Gakuya asked.
"Not yet," Black Zetsu answered. "I've only been able to send a small number of White Zetsu. Obito's watching me."
"No problem. Soon you'll be able to mobilize them all. Where is Obito now?"
Black Zetsu hesitated. "You're planning to kill him?"
"Exactly. He's a major variable in the Eye of the Moon Plan."
"Agreed. His two Mangekyō are the biggest threat to our entire operation," Black Zetsu said. He'd long grown tired of Obito.
Compared to Obito, Gakuya was far more efficient. Since he'd joined, the Four-Tails and Seven-Tails had been captured in quick succession. The plan was progressing smoothly, and he'd even founded his own nation, infiltrating the Five Great Nations from within.
Obito was too paranoid—he didn't even trust Black Zetsu.
But Gakuya… he only cared about power. That made him easier to manipulate.
"Do you know how to transplant ocular techniques from one Sharingan to another?" Gakuya asked.
"You're after Obito's Kamui, aren't you?"
That confirmed Black Zetsu's suspicions—Gakuya's thirst for power wouldn't let him pass up such an ability.
"That's right."
"Kehehe… You must've heard about it from Uchiha Hikari," Black Zetsu chuckled darkly, now certain Gakuya had no intention of relying on Obito anymore.
"It's not complicated. Just the same method Uchiha used—they fused all the Mangekyō the Uchiha had accumulated over the years into Hikari's eyes."
...
"But fusing non-bloodline Mangekyō usually leads to massive rejection. Best case: blindness. Worst case: loss of control and death."
Gakuya narrowed his eyes. "Then how did Hikari survive?"
"The Uchiha used a forbidden technique," Black Zetsu explained. "They gave up on evolving to the Eternal Mangekyō and instead used Hikari's life force to force the fusion."
That explained it. There had been a period when Hikari seemed extremely weak—Gakuya had pumped her full of life energy just to stabilize her.
Currently, Gakuya only had one Mangekyō: Shisui's eye.
Kotoamatsukami was a nice ability, but not very useful for Gakuya. Against powerful foes, it wasn't effective. Against weaklings, his Jōka technique worked better anyway.
As for Hikari's eyes, there was no way he could take them now. She had control over the minds of every major political power in the Federation.
If he even thought of taking her eyes, years of effort building the Federation would go up in smoke.
Gakuya rose to his feet. "Let's go. It's time to claim Obito's Sharingan."
"You're just going to walk in?" Black Zetsu asked, shocked.
"What else would I do?"
Black Zetsu was worried. "Obito's heart has a curse mark left behind by Madara. I can teach you how to activate it—once triggered, his heart will stop beating."
"That won't kill him immediately. With Hashirama's cells in his White Zetsu half, he'll survive for a while."
Finally—after all that rambling, Gakuya had gotten the real prize.
He stopped walking. "With that, I'll have a much better shot at killing him."
Black Zetsu shrugged. "Didn't think you'd move on Obito this fast."
Then, he began teaching Gakuya the method to activate the curse mark on Obito's heart.
Gakuya had what he needed. Even so, he wasn't planning to make the first move himself.
Obito was a rogue ninja from Konoha, after all—why not let Konoha wear him down first?
