"However," the Patriarch said slowly, his tone deliberately calm, almost too calm, "if you do not become pregnant within two months, the other Alphas will be required to take their turn. They will sleep with you."
My head snapped up, eyes wide, breath catching in my throat. Panic surged through me setting every nerve on edge.
What the actual hell?
He wasn't done.
"Yes," he continued smoothly. His voice remained unbothered, untouched by the rising tension thickening the air. "Since you've chosen not to handle all five Alphas at once, we must implement the system. It is necessary. We need an heir. But I don't think it will come to that. You are the Omega with the highest recorded breeding rate in this region. I am confident conception will occur before then."
My mind reeled, spinning out of control. The room felt too small, the walls too close. I turned my gaze to Alfie, clinging to a shred of hope....any sign of disagreement, outrage, resistance. Anything at all.
