"I know I told you it takes time to fall for someone," Silas said, his eyes locked firmly with mine. "And I meant that. I wasn't expecting to feel this way. But all the time we spent together... the cooking show, that picnic by the beach… and especially when you got shot by my ex....that moment opened my eyes. I realized I'd already fallen in love with you. Maybe it crept up slowly. Maybe I didn't notice it at first. But I'm not running from it anymore."
My breath caught in my throat.
Now how the fuck am I supposed to reply to this?
"Silas, I…"
"I know you don't love me, Zane," he cut in gently, though his voice trembled at the edges with a deeper, more volatile emotion. "And I know this confession of mine probably feels like a bomb dropping on you out of nowhere. But I've decided to tell you how I feel regardless."
He took a step closer, and I instinctively leaned back a little.
