What the hell could be bothering them that badly?" I muttered under my breath, more to myself than to Silas.
What if I was already marked for death?
The thought clung to my chest, suffocating and unwelcome. Just as I was beginning to spiral deeper into that dread, Rhys's voice cut through the heaviness.
"Now that I've told you all of this," he began, his tone shifting from its usual calm to something sharper....more expectant, "I have a few questions for you as well. And I expect you to answer them truthfully."
His gaze pierced through me, unwavering and coldly intense. Those golden eyes didn't blink, didn't soften...only locked onto mine.
I let out a long, weighted sigh, feeling the pressure settle beneath my ribs. I wasn't in the mood for an interrogation....not after everything I had just heard. If anything, I needed to lie down somewhere quiet and try to piece together the fragments of my reality.
