Chapter 106 - CHAPTER 107

c107: The Agreement Between Ash and Gyarados!!

"Gary, help Ash back to camp and get him changed."

"Okay."

Supported by Gary, Ash returned to the forest camp, while Professor Oak remained by the river with the other students to continue overseeing the fishing activity.

The event had started at 9:00 a.m. and would run until 4:00 p.m., giving the students plenty of time to vie for high scores. Many of them remained patient and hopeful, determined to improve their rankings by catching high-value Water-type Pokémon.

However, the chaos caused earlier by Ash's capture and battle with Gyarados had greatly disturbed the river environment. The once-clear water was now murky, and most of the Water-type Pokémon had been scared off by Gyarados' intense roars and thrashing.

Unless students moved to another fishing spot, catching anything valuable was unlikely. Large Water-types in particular would be even harder to come by now.

But Ash no longer had to worry about that. Having successfully captured a Gyarados a powerful LV.23 Pokémon he had secured the top spot in the ranking. Unless another camper managed to catch something equally rare or dangerous, his place was untouchable.

And realistically, no other summer camper was capable of subduing a Gyarados, which typically evolves from Magikarp at LV.20. Anyone attempting that feat at their current level like what Xiao Hao had tried would likely end up in a similar state: defeated and possibly injured.

Once back at the summer camp, Ash brought Froakie (Bubble Frog) and Gyarados to the Pokémon Center for treatment by Nurse Joy. Then, after ensuring both were in good hands, he returned to his cabin to take a long-overdue shower and change into dry clothes.

Today's feat fishing out and battling Gyarados had pushed Ash to his limits. Even though Gyarados had been holding back and wasn't fighting at full strength, Ash still had to give everything he had.

But the rewards were worth it. Froakie had gained six levels in one battle, leaping from LV.8 to LV.14 bringing him significantly closer to evolving into Frogadier.

In addition, Froakie had learned two new practical moves: Lick and Water Pulse expanding his tactical range beyond Bubble and Quick Attack.

"Wow..."

"Phew! This time I really hit the jackpot. Not only did I take first place in the fishing challenge again, but with Froakie's current strength, if we have any more battle assessments in camp, I honestly won't fear any opponent."

Steam rose in the cabin's bathroom as Ash washed away the mud and sweat from the day's hard-earned victory. After drying off, he selected a fresh set of camp-issued clothes and changed. In moments, the muddy, rain-soaked "drowned Rattata" had transformed back into the cheerful, confident star of the summer camp.

With short jet-black hair still slightly damp and falling into his amber-brown eyes, Ash looked sharp. His distinct facial features and youthful determination gave him an undeniable charm, and his angular face showed early signs of the strong adult he was on the path to becoming.

Though still just a boy, his sunny smile radiated the boundless energy of youth, matched with a surprising maturity that set him apart from his peers. Ash had a calm resilience and a strong inner compass that made people want to follow him.

Handsome, charismatic, and dependable Ash had all the qualities that made people naturally gravitate toward him.

"By the way, Ash what's the plan now?" Gary asked as they walked toward the Pokémon Center to pick up Froakie and Gyarados, both now healed and resting.

"Froakie is exhausted after that battle," Ash replied. "And don't forget, he did a full hour of morning training too. So we'll skip training for today."

"I'm heading to the woods with Gyarados first. I want to use my aura to help him recover properly and afterward, I need to call my mom about the online store. Might take the rest of the morning."

Ash's words were calm, but purposeful, as he walked out of camp with steady strides.

"But didn't Nurse Joy already treat Gyarados? Why do you need to use aura again?" Gary asked, genuinely puzzled.

Ash didn't respond directly. He chose not to reveal the real reason—not yet. It wasn't healing that he was planning to do.

In truth, Ash was going to use the aura irrigation technique, something he had only recently started to grasp. It was a method to awaken and enhance a Pokémon's hidden potential something even Professor Oak hadn't taught them yet.

And for Gyarados, this was only the beginning.

The mysterious power of Periphery or more precisely, the Aura-rooted energy that Ash had recently begun tapping into had the incredible ability to enhance a Pokémon's inherent potential. This discovery was too astonishing and too rare for Ash to share lightly. Not only did he have no intention of revealing it now, but he also planned to keep its use secret even as his strength continued to grow in the future.

Even Gary, his closest friend and rival, knew only a portion of the truth. Ash had selectively disclosed only the healing technique and his apparent ability to mimic moves, which he cleverly attributed to his developing Psychic powers rather than the system-driven skill replication. The real secret of Periphery and Aura infusion remained hidden.

With a metallic clang, Ash stepped into the quiet woodland clearing beyond the forest camp and released Gyarados from its Poké Ball.

"Gyarados, I'm really sorry about earlier," Ash said sincerely. Unlike Gary who would've understandably kept his distance from the intimidating serpent Ash stepped forward without fear. He reached out and embraced Gyarados's serpentine neck, his voice low and earnest.

"Roarrr" Gyarados rumbled softly in response. It shook its massive head, signaling no blame. It remembered Ash fainting from exhaustion just as the battle had ended it was clear the boy hadn't fought with malice.

"Thank you, Gyarados," Ash whispered gratefully. Not just for enduring the battle or helping him win the top spot in the fishing event, but also for cooperating in his plan with Xiaohao earlier. Gyarados had played its role perfectly.

Now, as agreed, Ash focused his energy and channeled all of today's reserve of Zhuoyuan his name for the purifying aura energy into Gyarados's body.

Once the infusion was complete, Ash used the system to scan Gyarados's status. A new progress bar appeared beside the Aptitude field, now reading 0.9975%. Based on the system's feedback, Ash understood clearly: only when that bar reached a full 100% would Gyarados's aptitude advance from B-rank Elite to A-rank Perfect a transformation that could redefine its growth potential and battle ceiling.

But that wouldn't happen overnight.

With Ash's current reserves and mastery, infusing Gyarados's body with Periphery only boosted aptitude by a meager 0.5% each time. If he continued to work at this every single day without interruption, it would take approximately six months to reach the breakthrough.

Still, a promise was a promise.

Ash had told Gyarados earlier that if it cooperated with him both in the planned conflict and in helping secure victory at the fishing event he would do everything in his power to elevate its talent to a higher level. He intended to keep that vow.

"Gyarados," Ash said softly, placing his hand on its scaled side, "the camp staff will likely release you back into the sea near Pallet Town. Once the two-week summer camp ends, return to where they let you go I'll come find you there."

"After that," he continued, "come to the river near Pallet Town whenever you can. I'll be waiting, and I'll keep my promise. I'll continue using Psychic or what they think is Psychic to help raise your potential day by day."

In reality, of course, what Ash called "Psychic" was simply a cover. Behind him, Gary observed curiously, unaware of the deeper truth.

Outwardly, Ash appeared to be performing a healing technique calmly concentrating, arms glowing faintly with light. But inwardly, he used his advanced Aura Transmission ability to speak directly into Gyarados's mind, forming a quiet but powerful bond.

This is only the beginning, Ash communicated silently.

And Gyarados understood.
