Nights passed by in a blurry flash, filled with excited cheers and chattering.
Every night, the students of Shrek academy would travel to Soto City's battle colosseum.
Team matches were rare, but their individual fame had risen. Particularly Tang San's alias 'Asura Demon', originally called weak for his martial soul, yet shocking everyone with its abilities.

Flender looked up from his desk, fiddling with his pen. "Come in" he yelled out.

The wooden creaked open as Liu Yan stepped through. He seemed to look more excited than usual.
"What is it, Liu Yan." Flender asked after watching his demeanor.
"Dean Flender, me and Ying Xuan would like to take some time off the classes this evening…" Liu Yan asked.
"…" Flender sat there pondering his question a bit before continuing "why?"
"Well, you see… me and Ying Xuan are going on a date in the evening. We had only just remembered to ask for your permission." Liu Yan explained as he scratched the back of his head in embarrassment.
"… I see. Alright then, you two may go. But! Be back before 11:00pm." Flender agreed but still set his rules.
"Thank you Dean Flender" Liu Yan smiled brightly and bowed before happily leaving the room.

"Kids these days, so young yet already having partners." Flender thought as he began to remember someone back then. Someone he valued but left for the sake of his friend.
The sun had began to set, drawing out the beauty of the nature around the academy.
"Ying Ying!" Liu Yan called to her as he ran to her.
Ying Xuan smiled as he stopped in front of her.
"Why the rush? We're both early~" she giggled. "Come on"
She and Liu Yan began making their way to Soto City. As they walked, he reached out and held her hand, interwining their fingers.
It felt natural for both of them.
The market of Soto City was filled with people. Particularly older couples who wanted to spend their time at 'Couple's lane'.
It was the place where many couples proposed to each other and also where all the shops that sold jewelry were located.
"It sure is lively" Liu Yan commented, every time they passed by this place, it was packed with people.
"Yeah… well, no time to waste! Let's go." Ying Xuan dragged him towards one of the many food stalls.
They had their fill of food. It was simply too delicious to miss out on this type of dates.
As they continued to walk around, they both sensed a gaze. Someone was watching them.
Looking around, everyone was minding their own business.
"Let's ignore it for now" Ying Xuan said as they continued walking.
But Liu Yan was very clear of who might be watching them… Bu Le, the scumbag of Soto City.
He was a scumbag that walked around the streets of Soto City, eyeing up some beauties and even attempting to kidnap younger girls to have 'fun' with.
Though he was a repeat offender, he was a soul king with the martial soul Ghostly Claws. A stealth type soul master. He managed to avoid detection from Heaven Dou empire and the minor spirit hall branch in Soto City.
"You won't escape judgment, Bu Le" Liu Yan wanted to deal with him. Relying on the original Shrek members was impossible.
Though they had given him a beating, and even put a confession sign on him. He ultimately escaped with the help of his friends.
As they continued walking, Ying Xuan noticed a necklace that was being sold at a jewelry.
They went in and she bgan oggling at the necklace.
A staff member walked towards them and introduced the necklace to them, "This is our limited edition necklace! Made out of 5% pure gold chain! The main core is the three crystals, being lunacytes. A rare mineral that is rarely used to create jewelry like this."
"May we… inspect it?" Ying Xuan asked while still gazing at the necklace.
"Of course!" The staff member took out the necklace and placed it in front of them.
The luncyte crystals changes colour under different light intensities. Shining white in the dark and black when directly under the sun.
"May we know its price?" Liu Yan asked, he would buy this for her if she liked it a lot and was under his budget.
"The price is 200 golden soul coins." The staff said immediately, he seemed to be excited to sell it. Hoping to get commissions for this.
Liu Yan looked at Ying Xuan, who looked back at him.
A mental conversation was happening right then and there.
Liu Yan took out his pouch and took out exactly 200 golden soul coins. "We'll take it!"
"Wonderful!" The staff member clapped his hands together before taking the money. "Please wait as I package this up for you!"
With that, the staff member walked away with the necklace to package it.
Ten minutes later, he came back handed the now packaged necklace to Ying Xuan.
"Thank you for shopping at our shop" the staff member said as they left.
It was 9:00pm now, they had finally finished their shopping.
Ying Xuan was humming a song as she walked next to Liu Yan.
Suddenly, a shadow rushed past them, grabbing the packaged necklace and darting into the alleyway.
"He has eyes for my Ying Ying huh… he has a death wish. Perfect chance for some retribution~" Liu Yan and Ying Xuan immediately chased after the shadowy figure.
"Be careful. This guy is definitely a strong soul master" Liu Yan warned her as they chased after the figure.
The figure stood at the end of alleyway, unmoving, the necklace was placed on a box.
It was a trap. For normal people, if they went to grab it, they would be knocked out and fall victim. If it was a soul master, they would be too surprised and unable to counterattack effectively.
"Bu Le… enough games." Liu Yan shouted.
The figure turned around and looked at him, ripping off a mask.
He was uglier than in the original source material. He had two large front teeth, like a rat. His demeanor was meant to portray seductiveness, but all it did was portray a disgust stronger than the smell of sewage water.
"So you know me? Well that can't be left about, can it" Bu Le said seriously before looking at Ying Xuan.
Slurp
He licked his lips. "What a feast this girl would be~ I've hit the jackpot!" He thought before possessing his martial soul, Ghostly Claws.
Five soul rings rose from the ground — White, Yellow, Purple, Purple, Purple.
"Soul king!" Ying Xuan exclaimed.
"We do the usual, Ying Ying…" Liu Yan squeezed her hand once before letting go, possessing his own martial soul.
"A soul master couple! This will be even better to break!" Bu Le was delighted, in front of him were two soul elders, compared to him. They were nothing.
Liu Yan didn't hesitate to charge.
As Bu Le sent two of his claws to grab him, Liu Yan created two hands that protruded from the ground, wrestling Bu Le's martial soul.
"What!" Bu Le immediately realised he's underestimated this young man here.
"Don't think that I am a pushover!" Bu Le yelled as he readied himself to unleash a soul skill.
"Don't even think about it!"
Shing, Shing, Shing
A chain of crystal shards shot at Bu Le, interrupting him.
"What a troublesome girl you are, I'm going to enjoy breaking you!" Bu Le yelled as he dodged and dodged again.
He unleashed his third soul skill, binding Ying Xuan and inhibiting her from using her martial soul.
"Too distracted" Liu Yan had reached Bu Le and began a close up confrontation.
Bam! Crack!
One of the punches landed on the wall, cracking it.
Bu Le leg swiped him, knocking him off balance and falling onto the floor.
"You'll watch as it happens!" Bu Le said he called back one of the Ghostly claws and held Liu Yan's upper body down.
Liu Yan transferred his right gauntlet into wrapping around the foor of his leg before suddenly kicking Bu Le straight in the shin.
Crack!
Bu Le fell onto the ground, screaming in pain, clutching his leg. His martial soul deactivated, unbinding Ying Xuan and releasing Liu Yan.
"You! You bastards! I'm going to kill you!" He yelled at Liu Yan but continued to scream in pain, his shin had been broken.
"What do we do with him now?" Ying Xuan asked, she was absolutely disgusted at this man in front of her.
"I have the perfect way to punish him…" Liu Yan smiled menacingly before creating a sword.
Without mercy, he slashed it straight at Bu Le's… (we all know)…
"Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!" Bu Le screamed even more before fainting from the pain.
"That was for the girls that fell victim to you." He said before kicking him one more time.
"I also want to do something!" Ying Xuan perked up before finding a piece of wood.
The next day, everyone was in for a spectacle.
Bu Le slowly woke up, as his eyes finally adjusted to the light. He found himself tied around a pole with a confession sign hung on him, right in front of the spirit hall branch. His pants was still bloody from last might and his right leg hung limply.
He shouted and cried, asking his friends for help but they didn't come.
He was then arrested by spirit hall, being out on trial.
