Chapter 101 – They Provoked Someone They Shouldn't Have

Fairness and justice have no meaning in Youkexin City. The people who wronged you often understand better than you just how wronged you've been.

Unless you can fight your way out or silently bide your time while accumulating strength, waiting for another chance to rise, you'll only end up as someone else's stepping stone.

If you can fight, fight. If you can't, join others or sacrifice your interests to survive. If none of those are an option—then you're left with only one path: death.

That's the rule for survival in Youkexin City.

It's also the rule for survival in the mafia world.

Yamcha noticed that Kairal's left arm was unnaturally bent—it looked like it had been forcefully broken by someone.

"Hurts, doesn't it?"

Yamcha said while staring at the limp arm.

"It doesn't hurt anymore," Kairal replied, clutching his left arm.

The tendons had been severed, the nerves completely dead. Of course there was no pain anymore.

But the humiliation—he'd never forget it for the rest of his life.

His legs broken, his tendons slashed, thrown out like trash onto the street, left for passersby to gawk at.

That memory was seared into his soul.

"Eat this."

Yamcha handed Kairal a black "pill."

Without hesitation, Kairal swallowed it in one go.

Yamcha was quite pleased with this attitude.

"Sweet?"

"Chocolate?"

Kairal thought as the taste hit his tongue. But he didn't let that slow him down—instead, he chewed faster and swallowed.

"You're not worried I gave you poison?"

"If you wanted me dead, you wouldn't need to go through so much trouble," Kairal replied sincerely.

Smart man. Yamcha liked dealing with smart people—especially those with ambition and ability.

"Three, two, one."

As Yamcha's countdown ended, something miraculous happened.

Kairal's left arm—which had been diagnosed by countless professionals as beyond recovery, the nerves completely dead—started trembling. A second later, he lifted it effortlessly.

"Incredible!"

This man really is something else. There was almost nothing he couldn't do!

Kairal looked at Yamcha with fervent admiration, his conviction growing even stronger.

Of course, in reality, it wasn't all that magical.

The pill was coated in chocolate on the outside, but inside was a piece of a Senzu Bean.

Roughly one-eighth of a bean. Yes, it came from that bag.

Even giving just this tiny bit made Yamcha's heart ache.

But on the surface, he kept up his mysterious air, his expression calm and aloof.

"I need someone to act in my stead."

"My lord, I am willing."

Kairal responded eagerly before Yamcha could even finish.

"It's dangerous."

"I am willing to offer you my soul."

Kairal's voice was firm. Right now, there was only one way to erase his humiliation and rise again: find a powerful backer—a reliable one.

And his instincts told him that this man in front of him was that backer.

The fact that this man was standing here alive and well was already proof of his power.

Ever since the auction last year, countless gang members had tried to uncover information about him, even offering large bounties.

The result? He was perfectly fine. Meanwhile, those who placed bounties… had mostly vanished.

Yamcha's move to assign Illumi that task before leaving had greatly enhanced his mystique.

"Very well."

Yamcha said calmly, "It's said that Youkexin City is ruled by ten legendary mafia bosses—leaders from six continents and ten regional crime syndicates. They are collectively known as the Ten Dons."

"They gather every year during the start of the auction."

Yamcha shared everything he knew about the Ten Dons.

Though all his intel came from anime, even these fragmented details were astonishingly valuable to Kairal.

Anyone who had information on the Ten Dons was no ordinary person.

Yet again, his judgment was confirmed.

This man must be a representative of some powerful hidden organization.

"Your first mission: replace them. Take their place."

If any other mafia member had heard Yamcha say that, it would've sounded as ridiculous as someone telling Boar Demon to go eliminate the entire Monk Tang and his disciples.

But Kairal, having already calculated in his mind, didn't bat an eye.

Yamcha watched him for a while before continuing:

"Of course, I will support you."

That made sense. Going head-on against the Ten Dons with no help would be like a moth flying into the flame.

What could Yamcha offer Kairal?

Weapons. Firepower. Enormous financial support.

In the world of Hunter x Hunter, the mafia's firepower was nothing compared to the Black Ribbon Army—Dragon Ball's top-tier villain faction.

Yamcha could even supply mechs.

Yes, they were the egg-shaped mechs from early Dragon Ball, used by lesser characters like Pilaf's gang—and often destroyed by kid Goku. But for mafia wars? They were more than enough.

So what did Yamcha want in return?

Resources. The Hunter x Hunter world was filled with rare and powerful things—especially the treasures of the Dark Continent: the Longevity Rice, the All-Healing Herb, power-generating stones, the Three-Star Water, perfect alchemical plants.

Even without considering the Dark Continent, there were plenty of resources that could be used in the Dragon Ball world.

That's why he was pushing Kairal to the front. He wanted the Mojito Family to act as his proxy.

There's no such thing as loyalty without a reason—especially not in the Hunter x Hunter world. This wasn't the Digimon universe, and people here were far from innocent like Digimon. Betrayal was as common as drinking water. The only thing you could trust in was mutual interest.

Yamcha could give Kairal—and the Mojito Family—everything they needed.

In return, they had to work for Yamcha.

Simple as that.

Everyone would get what they wanted—a bright future for all.

"My lord, what should we do first?"

"First step: absorb the members of the smaller gangs. Slowly devour them, incorporate them into your own force, and quietly accumulate strength. Build power in the shadows, and wait..."

"Wait until the auction ends this year."

Although he knew he probably shouldn't ask, Kairal couldn't hold back his curiosity.

"My lord, will something major happen at this year's auction?"

Thankfully, Yamcha didn't mind the question. Instead, he answered directly.

"Of course."

"The Ten Dons provoked someone they never should have. This year, they're as good as dead."
