Chapter 59: Clash With the Dragon Wolves
ROOOOAR!!!
A deafening roar ripped through the stillness of the forest, halting Lei Feng and his Elemental Vanguard mid-step as they prepared to strike.
"Master! Wait—stay down!" Aquari's voice rang with urgency as she yanked Lei Feng's arm, pulling him into a crouch. The others followed without hesitation, instinctively reacting to the sudden spike of tension pressing against their skin like a storm on the verge of breaking.
RRRAAAHK.
Another cry followed—a lower, more feral sound that sliced through the silence like a jagged blade. It wasn't just a warning. It was a declaration.
The enemy was close.
"Damn it, what do we do?" Ignis growled, his voice low but taut with pent-up energy. "I'm itching for a fight."
"We just rush in and dominate," Granite replied gruffly, cracking his stone knuckles. "Simple."
"What else can we do?" Glacia scoffed, eyes narrowing. "We watch, calculate, analyze… then take them down without mercy."
"I agree with your logic, Frost Fairy," Aeolus said, a playful glint in his eye. "I can scout from above."
But before anyone could respond, Aeolus shot skyward—light and reckless.
"Aeolus, no!" Aquari cried.
Too late.
The sudden movement drew attention. The air shifted. Predatory intent surged.
Lei Feng turned sharply. What he saw rooted him in place.
From beyond the trees, they emerged—hybrid monsters that towered over men. Twice their size, at least. They were unlike what Lei Feng had picture from afar.
The Dragon Wolves.
Each beast bore a grotesque blend of reptilian and lupine features: thick obsidian scales covered their muscular frames, yet tufts of dark, spiked fur bristled between armored plates. Their claws, long and hooked like curved daggers, tore into the ground with every step. Crimson eyes—dozens of them—burned with molten fury and savage intelligence.
And now, all of them were fixed on Lei Feng.
Aquari's voice trembled. "What... what are those?"
Without wasting another second, Lei Feng slipped a hand into his pocket and pulled out his device. "I should've checked the database earlier," he muttered, breath quickening.
With a flick of his wrist, the BeastCall Database shimmered into existence.
Zone: Tier 5 – Core Region Intermediate Zone
Magic Beasts Detected:
Obsidian Flame Lion [Lv. 25]
Mad Tiger Bull [Lv. 25]
Dragon Wolf [Lv. 25]
His heart sank the moment his eyes locked onto the name. He tapped the entry.
> Dragon Wolves
These pack-hunting monsters share distant ancestry with Baneful Dragons. While their bloodline purity is minimal, their combat prowess far exceeds that of ordinary beasts.
They possess nearly impervious scales, lightning-fast reflexes, and uncanny coordination. Their venom is their deadliest asset—corrosive, paralytic, and fatal to even Level 35 Magic Elites.
Warning: DO NOT ENGAGE unless accompanied by a full squad of Magic Elites.
RRRAAAHK!
A low snarl rumbled through the pack as their leader stepped forward.
Aquari tugged at Lei Feng's sleeve. "Master… they're about to attack."
The Alpha was a monstrosity—twice the size of his kin. The obsidian scales covering his body shimmered faintly like armor kissed by flame. His ears rose into jagged points, resembling twisted horns. And his eyes... they locked onto Lei Feng's with burning, calculated hatred.
Tension gripped the forest like a noose.
On one side: a wall of rippling muscles, jagged fangs, and living weapons brimming with primal hunger.
On the other: Five elemental beings and their master—poised, fearless.
Ignis ignited, cloaked in a mantle of flame that scorched the very air around him.
Glacia's sword hummed with frost, her presence lowering the temperature in a ten-foot radius.
Aquari's water whip coiled at her side like a serpent ready to strike.
Aeolus hovered above the field, twin wind blades gleaming in each hand, his expression solemn for once.
Granite stood like an immovable peak, veins of glowing rock pulsing beneath his skin.
Lei Feng didn't move. He kept his eyes trained on the Alpha, calm and commanding.
Then, through the mental link of Summoner's Empathy, his voice echoed in the Vanguard's minds.
> "I'll strike first. That's your signal—hit them hard and stay together. Understood?"
They all responded with firm nods—no hesitation, no fear.
Lei Feng's aura flared like a supernova. Mana surged into Stormpiercer, the runes etched into the blade glowing electric blue. His Storm Dragon Robe crackled with arcs of lightning, and the very ground trembled beneath his feet.
The Alpha's pupils narrowed. Dangerous, it thought. This human must be stopped.
With a thunderous howl, the Alpha raised its head to the sky.
HOOOOOOOWLLLLL!!!
The Dragon Wolves lunged as one, their formation perfectly synchronized, paws tearing up dirt and rock.
Lei Feng smiled coldly. "Too late."
"Thunderclap Strike."
He raised his sword—and brought it down with divine force.
KRAAA-KOOOOOM!!!
Thunder split the heavens.
A colossal bolt of lightning descended, striking Stormpiercer with blinding intensity. Lei Feng slashed horizontally, and the world was torn asunder.
BOOOOOOM!!!
A pillar of white-blue devastation erupted from the blade. Not a beam—a wall. It surged across the battlefield like divine judgment.
Half a dozen Dragon Wolves disintegrated instantly, vaporized in light. A dozen more were thrown like rag dolls. Boulders shattered. The earth cracked open in a ring-shaped crater. The pack's formation was in shambles.
> Now! Lei Feng shouted through the link.
---
Elemental Vanguard: Engage.
FWOOSH.
A storm of fire surged across the field—Ignis, blazing like the heart of a volcano, barreled into the wolves. His flames carved a path of destruction, searing flesh, and igniting panic.
Blades of fire slashed in every direction. One wolf leapt, claws bared—but Ignis twisted, spinning midair, and decapitated it mid-pounce.
---
CRRRAACK.
Glacia glided on a stream of frost, her body a blur of graceful lethality. Her ice blade shimmered as she parried a strike, spun low, and cleaved a wolf's throat in a clean arc. But her blade stuck—its scales resisted.
Another wolf lunged from behind.
FWOOOSH.
Glacia lifted her palm, unleashing a burst of frost energy. Ice crawled up the beast's limbs, halting its movement.
She twisted her body, planting both feet and yanking her sword free. With a swift, two-handed slash she tore open the wolf's underbelly.
> "The belly is their weakness! Go for it!" Glacia shouted telepathically to the rest of the team.
---
Aquari heard her loud and clear.
She pivoted, facing a snarling wolf as it opened its maw—venom spraying.
SWOOSH.
She rolled aside. The venom sizzled where it landed, eating into the ground.
"What the hell…?" she gasped.
The wolf lunged—but Aquari struck first.
SHRRRIP.
Her whip sliced through its soft underbelly. The beast crashed, bleeding out with stunned disbelief in its fading eyes.
---
BOOM.
Granite's punch landed square in another wolf's midsection. It let out a pitiful gasp before collapsing, twitching, lifeless.
Four more charged. Granite didn't flinch.
With a roar, he slammed his foot into the earth—four boulders rose in the air.
THUD. THUD. THUD. THUD.
They flew like meteors, slamming into wolves mid-leap, shattering bone and will alike.
He stood still—a one-man fortress.
---
Above it all, Aeolus laughed, spinning in midair like a celestial dancer of death.
WHHHHRRRRR!
Blades of wind spiraled from him, lacerating anything they touched. Deep cuts split the terrain, blood misting into the air like red rainfall.
"Now this is exhilarating!" Aeolus cried, his grin wide and wild.
The wolves began to falter—too wounded, too afraid to face him.
---
Meanwhile, on the far end of the battlefield…
Lei Feng stood before the Dragon Wolf Alpha, Stormpiercer resting on his shoulder.
The Alpha's crimson eyes bore into his with hatred—but not recklessness. No… there was calculation there now.
Lei Feng tilted his head, a faint smile on his lips. "What? Don't look at me like that. If we were weaker, you'd be dining on our bones."
The Alpha's fur bristled. Its massive chest rose and fell with each breath. Then—
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Its growl deepened.
It wasn't just rage.
It was respect.
Lei Feng's smile vanished, replaced by a warrior's resolve. "That's it. Come at me."
The Alpha howled—and lunged.
BOOOOOM!!!
The ground shattered where they collided.
And the real battle began.
