Both the Uchiha and Hyuga clans belong to Konoha's prestigious families, but setting aside the Hyuga's attitude, the Uchiha hold a deep, ingrained contempt for them.
Objectively, the "Caged Bird" seal may have its justifications, but like anything, its value depends entirely on who wields it.
As far as the Uchiha are concerned, the current Hyuga clan is utterly disgraceful.
They're not shinobi, they've never fought on the battlefield, and yet they hold sway over their family. Their strength is laughable, but they carry themselves as if they're untouchable.
To the Uchiha, it feels like a mockery of the entire shinobi way—that birthright alone can elevate even the weakest, soft-bodied waste to a position of power.
This kind of existence flies in the face of the Uchiha's belief in strength above all. Even someone as composed as Shisui can't bring himself to respect the Hyuga.
So when Orochimaru made a comparison to the Hyuga, Fugaku quickly dismissed it with visible disdain. He couldn't accept the idea of being likened to them.
On the surface, Fugaku worried about the emergence of Sharingan in a potential branch family—about internal conflict and civil strife. But his deeper fear was something worse: that the Uchiha clan could rot from within and become another Hyuga—a group of complacent, entitled weaklings.
After all, nothing corrupts the heart faster than power—especially the kind you're born with.
To prevent that decay, Fugaku believed the entire system had to be shaped differently from the start. If the Uchiha wanted to stay strong, they needed to destroy the kind of environment where parasites could thrive.
But doing so might mean abandoning their dream—universal awakening of the Sharingan.
Fugaku couldn't help but feel disappointed. He had spent days turning this over in his mind, imagining a glorious future where the Uchiha rose to power through the Sharingan. Now, that vision seemed far more complicated.
Still, as clan head, Fugaku wasn't ready to give up. The emergence of the Bloodline Sharingan was a sign of hope. Even if not every clan member could awaken it, perhaps all Uchiha jōnin could?
More importantly, with Uchiha Shinsuke having already awakened the Bloodline Sharingan, would his child inherit the same trait once their eyes awakened?
It was a question worth exploring.
He also remembered—didn't Shinsuke have a fiancée? Fugaku's thoughts briefly drifted before Orochimaru's voice snapped him back to the present.
"Clan Leader Fugaku," Orochimaru said, raising an eyebrow with a sly smile, "besides Uchiha Shinsuke, there's another Uchiha jōnin who underwent the procedure…"
"I've been training in Ryūchi Cave, so I'm not sure whether this jōnin has awakened the Bloodline Sharingan—or is showing signs of it."
"Not awakened yet," Fugaku replied, frowning. "But whether there's potential… that's unclear. You should see for yourself."
When Orochimaru nodded in agreement, Fugaku called for a subordinate to summon the jōnin in question.
The jōnin arrived swiftly.
His name was Uchiha Yusuke, and in truth, he had been on standby ever since learning Orochimaru had returned to Konoha and might visit the Uchiha compound.
He had good reason for that. As a recipient of the body enhancement surgery, Yusuke had been struggling lately.
His power hadn't increased nearly as much as Shinsuke's. He hadn't even awakened Wood Release. And now, with Shinsuke having unlocked a new form of the Sharingan, the pressure on Yusuke had only intensified.
Under the silent scrutiny of his clanmates, he had no choice but to push himself harder—desperate to close the growing gap between him and Shinsuke.
There was progress—Yusuke's strength had clearly increased, even more than before. But it still fell short of expectations. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't satisfying.
Now that Shinsuke had achieved a major breakthrough, and the chief architect of the new bloodline technique had returned, Uchiha Yusuke wasn't about to sit idle. After arranging his duties as the security team captain, he rushed to the patriarch's residence, ready to be summoned at a moment's notice.
Orochimaru unsealed a scroll, retrieving a strange instrument. He examined Yusuke's physical condition thoroughly and then smiled.
"Your growth is remarkable," he said. "In just a few days, your strength has improved significantly. Almost unbelievable."
"Lord Orochimaru," Yusuke asked with a tense but hopeful expression, "when will I be able to awaken a new bloodline like Shinsuke?"
He looked at Orochimaru the way a child might gaze up at their teacher, nervous and eager—afraid he might be told he simply didn't have what it takes.
"It'll take time," Orochimaru replied smoothly, "and a bit of… stimulation."
After updating Yusuke's file with the latest physical data, he looked up again and added with a grin, "It's not unlike awakening the Sharingan. You need the right trigger. Until then, just focus on your training."
He wasn't just talking. Orochimaru pulled out a piece of paper and jotted down a detailed training regimen—targeted specifically at improving physical resilience and output.
Yusuke left, practically glowing with renewed determination.
Once he was gone, Fugaku turned to Orochimaru.
"How long will it take for Yusuke to awaken the Bloodline Sharingan?" he asked. As clan head, he wasn't easily swayed by vague encouragement—he could tell Orochimaru was being evasive.
"Not soon," Orochimaru admitted, shaking his head. "With luck, maybe a year or two. The materials used on him were weaker. He underwent the enhancement surgery using a diluted version of the First Hokage's cells—far inferior to what Shinsuke received."
Orochimaru's tone held a hint of disdain.
"Frankly, Shinsuke awakening the bloodline so quickly was beyond even my expectations. His talent is… exceptional."
Seeing the disappointment on Fugaku's face, Orochimaru chuckled.
"A few years is nothing for a new bloodline technique. Patriarch Fugaku, can't you be a little more patient? Or are you growing greedy?"
Fugaku said nothing, but inwardly, he understood the point. It was just that Shinsuke's rapid success had set the bar unrealistically high, giving even seasoned shinobi like Yusuke a sense of urgency and inadequacy.
Orochimaru leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping low.
"Of course… if the Uchiha Patriarch wants faster results, there are other ways."
His eyes gleamed.
"The surgeries used so far were cautious, conservative. But if we cast those limits aside—if we don't care about survival rates—I could produce more successes. Quickly."
Fugaku's expression hardened.
"No. Absolutely not."
Orochimaru was toying with lives. The Uchiha couldn't afford to throw away their limited number of jōnin just to gamble on breakthroughs.
"I didn't say jōnin," Orochimaru said softly, smiling darkly. "Chūnin. Genin. Even civilians. All could be candidates. The death rate would be higher, yes… but if we sacrificed a hundred to create even one success…"
Fugaku's breath caught—not just from the insanity of the suggestion, but from the fact that for a split second, he had considered it.
Rationally speaking, from a cold strategic perspective, it was a worthwhile trade.
But he dismissed the thought just as quickly as it came. The Uchiha didn't need to become monsters. They were already on solid ground. There was no need for such recklessness.
He met Orochimaru's gaze and answered with finality.
"No. We proceed carefully. No sacrifices."
"Good," Orochimaru replied, his smile still unnerving. "It seems the patriarch hasn't lost his sanity yet."
He settled back on the mat, his demeanor suddenly calm—as if he hadn't just proposed mass human experimentation.
But then his smile widened again.
"Still, you may be rational, Fugaku. But what about your clansmen?"
He tilted his head slightly.
"If someone told them they could gain strength—become like Uchiha Shinsuke—just by undergoing a procedure… what do you think they would choose?"
