Chapter 42: Cthulhu, Come Forth V

...........

The Voices whisper to him the darkness within people's hearts, driving him insane, but sometimes, they tell him some interesting stuff.

'It's done... Now, I just need an opportunity,' So, he moved.

He pushed himself to his knees, Kurayami now back in orb form, pulsing weakly in his trembling hand.

"Tch…"

The six nobles regrouped again, their expressions now more annoyed, irritation especially overflowing from some of them.

One limped slightly. Another wiped the blood from his mouth. The one Akashi had wounded earlier had his eyes twitching as he eyed the wound left by the one he once disdained.

The oldest among them; wrinkles deep and eyes dull; finally stepped forward, sword dragging along the ground with lethargic menace.

"This is more troublesome than expected. No wonder... But it's over."

Akashi smiled, despite the blood on his teeth.

"..." However, he didn't speak. He felt like if he spoke too much, he would pass out.

He stood again, albeit shaky. The world tilted at a strange angle. His lungs burned with effort. But his eyes; those cold, Inky eyes; still glared at them with clarity.

Akashi's eyes zoned only for a bit, only to find one of them appearing by him, emerging from his shadow.

If the noble was to slash at Akashi, he didn't do it, his eyes dilated in shock.

"What…?!" He growled, stunned.

Before him emerged a black entity, the Hat man. It stood before him, startling him if only for a split second.

Too late.

That second was more than enough as Akashi drove his blade directly through the Hat man and into the noble's chest.

The noble flashed backward in panic, Kurayami loosening from his chest, but Akashi wouldn't allow it.

Akashi activated Shunpo, closing the distance in less than a blink.

CRACK!

He drove Kurayami-staff into the noble's shoulder just as the rest of the enemies arrived for the rescue.

The attacks didn't kill; but Akashi put so much force in his last strike that despite the noble's Reiatsu acting somewhat as a shield, he was still sent flying.

He crashed into a wall and lay still for a moment, groaning.

Another noble was already in front of him.

This one didn't speak. He simply punched Akashi in the gut, no blade, just raw strength.

The wind left Akashi's lungs. His feet lifted off the ground from the force.

And then;

SLASH.

A deep gash bloomed across his back from another attacker behind. He fell to the ground, face-first, blood seeping into the cracks between cobblestones.

'A Chance,' Akashi ignored the agonizing pain, too focused to care.

It was as if he was obsessed, firmly standing and staring at the blurry figure that appeared by his side.

The world slowed. His chest rose and fell in shallow, broken rhythms. His lips trembled with blood.

He looked as if he was about to fall to death, even his blade fell to the ground, seemingly in surrender.

Maybe, that was why they let their guard down and Akashi... Well, he smiled.

Right then and there, the commanding noble knew it was bad.

"Bakudo #61.Rikujōkōrō!"

Kurayami in the ground, at some point in time, dissolved leaving a single black orb that flew into his hand, morphing into a staff directly after.

The staff generated a spark of dark golden energy that upon coming in contact with the noble; summoned six thin, wide beams of light that slammed into his midsection holding him in place.

Befitting of a relatively high-numbered Kido spell, the noble was completely imprisoned.

He was unable to move any part of his body, including the parts which were not struck by the beams.

If Akashi were to take the opportunity to eliminate the high threat, he couldn't do it, not with the nearby nobles surrounding him.

The fastest was the oldest, not because he was truly the fastest, but because he was the closest.

Had Akashi, at that moment, gone for the kill or so much as lifted his blade, the older noble would've definitely gone for the kill.

He wouldn't allow Akashi to kill any of them, but unluckily for him, Akashi wasn't going for the kill just yet.

The older noble must've realized that as he noticed the smile on Akashi's face widening, like a child whose prank succeeded.

"Ah, my dear Voices, let them hear your tunes!" It was a long sentence, yet the two nobles before him felt as if it was spelled in an instant.

And indeed, in an instant, they felt its effect, realizing that mist, inky mist was rising from their wounds.

The older noble no longer cared for the consequences as he swung his blade, going for the kill or at least putting Akashi on his deathbed.

Only, his movement halted, his eyes dilating as he heard them, Voices so loud and many that they would drive any normal soul insane in an instant.

However, he wasn't an ordinary soul. He was a very strong soul, thus he was able to utter a single word before the Voices took hold, "Kill!! AHHHHHHHHH!!"

It's, however, unfortunate for him that he was not the only one affected. In fact, every single one of them was affected, although to varying degrees.

Every wound. No, every touch allowed Akashi to inject a bit of darkness into them in the form of an infection that he could set off at any point.

From the beginning, he was observing for he knew he only had one chance. The voices aren't too effective against stronger souls.

They were, however, enough to stun them if only for a few moments.

And the ones he focused on the most were the enemy commander and the older noble... The voices told him they were the most dangerous.

All that hard work, and finally, he could put them to eternal rest.

Kurayami in hand.

It was merely a couple of moments before the two started to regain consciousness, but when they did, it was too late.

Kurayama was already heading their way. They didn't even have time to mobilize their Reiatsu. Only in that way would they have a chance to survive.

Alas, they could only marvel at the beauty of the moon as their blood painted crimson... Ahh, that was merely their blood, scattered along their heads.

"I will kill youu!!!!!" "Die!!" "You bastard!!!!"

They seemed to have regained their consciousness.

No matter how much of a joy it was to kill the two, the fact that four remained was still a hopeless thought.

Akashi couldn't turn back in time but he could feel the malice heading toward him, the end of a sword so near him, seeking to take his head off.

They no longer held back. They truly wanted to kill him. Their fear of Tokinada dissipated into thin air.

They had realized that they had made a mistake, or rather, Akashi drove them into a desperate situation.

The fact that two of Tokinada's most valuable pawns died here means that no matter what they do, they'll likely lose their lives under their master's hand for such a shameful defeat.

They've made many fatal mistakes, and they'll have to pay for them.

But not before Akashi pays the price for his offense with his life.

What could he do to stop them? It was far too late, yet Akashi was expressionless, his mouth moving ever so slightly.

Eyes like coals beneath a broken sky.

His Reiatsu thumped once.

Dark.

Ancient.

Something was stirring.

Beneath the earth.

Behind the sky.

Inside the hilt.

Kurayami pulsed in sync with him now like a beating heart; something new rising.

He whispered, "Cthulhu, Come Forth."
