-------------------
Chains tore through the night, striking hard toward Kokabiel and the others. They didn't stand a chance. The weaker Fallen Angels got captured easily. While others fought back but only lasted for a few seconds. And in the middle of it, the one who caused this, Hajime Nagumo, simply stood. His eyes fixed on his targets, his body glowing with divinity from his unleashed Authority.
Kokabiel fought to stay airborne, snarling as he dodged the chains that lunged at him. Every movement drained him, and the strain showed small fractures split the ground wherever he passed, reacting to the pressure Hajime poured into the area.
The others weren't as lucky. The chains hit fast and hard, coiling around wings and arms, pulling them down without a chance to resist.
"You... what are you...?" Kokabiel hissed, staring at Hajime—not with contempt, but something close to fear. "A mere human... shouldn't be able to use Enkidu's power!"
Hajime gave a slight tilt of his head, the corner of his mouth twitching.
"Sorry to disappoint, maybe not just a 'mere' but " he said, voice dry but certain. "But I'm still human. That hasn't changed. And it never will.
The chains snapped tight, dragging Kokabiel and the others down hard. The ground cracked beneath them, the impact echoing across the field like a warning no one could ignore.
Griselda's voice cut in, sharp and tense. "Miss Alice, Miss Anisphia... just what is Nagumo Hajime?" Her tone is firm but careful. She paused for a brief moment choosing her words carefully, holding back what she really felt.
Alice stayed quiet for a moment. She let out a slow breath, before turning back her attention to Hajime. She is thinking carefully on how she will say her next words. Words that will definitely shake their common sense.
Alice's voice cut through the tension, steady and direct. "Back in our world," she began, "there are gods that were born from the myths and legends. Usually they stay in the mythical plane and rarely interact in the physical world. However, there will be times when these gods break free from their usual plane of existence. They manifest in the real world causing disasters due to their presence and immense power. We call these gods 'Heretic Gods'."
She let that settle, her eyes sweeping the crowd. "Like in every world. No one can stand and defy the will of a god. Even if humanity or all living beings gathered all its power, they wouldn't have any chance to stop one of them."
Alice continued. "Yet among humanity, there exist exceptions. Those who, though mortal, did the impossible. They killed a god and stole a piece of their divine authority."
She let the words hang briefly before finishing.
"We call them Campione. Godslayers."
Griselda stepped back, eyes wide as she tried to take in what Alice had just said. "Campione..." she whispered, like the word itself weighed more than it should. Her voice carried disbelief, awe, and maybe fear. Because Hajime Nagumo wasn't just strong. He was proof of another impossibility that no human was ever meant to be.
Beside her, the rest of the strike group: Issei, Koneko, Kiba, Irina, and Xenovia stood frozen. Issei's jaw moved, trying to form words, but nothing came out. His eyes locked on Hajime, trying to process what he just heard. Kiba's hand tightened around his sword, the truth sinking in fast. Koneko's usual composure broke; her eyes wide.
Irina and Xenovia, seasoned Church warriors, stood frozen. They had trained for years to face monsters, devils, even death. But this—this was something else. Everything they believed in on this day was shattered. From the might of the Excalibur, to God's unexpected death and now to an impossible human. What a day indeed.
Alice nodded. "There's a well-known parable in the magical community from our world," she said, taking a quiet breath before continuing.
"A Campione—a Godslayer—is a supreme ruler. One who has slain a god gains access to the sacred, divine powers once held by that being."
She paused, eyes focused forward.
"A Campione is a lord. Because with the strength to kill a god, he stands above all other mortals."
Her voice softened, carrying the final truth. "A Campione is also a devil. Because no one else alive holds a power that can rival his."
Anisphia, added with a small, proud smile, "Which is why, to both of us, Hajime our king. As he is someone we swear to our lives with. As someone who decided that even when the world breaks, he will keep standing. That is why we decided to accompany him till the end."
No one spoke at first. Letting the new information sink in to them.
Everyone exchanged glances, they stood quietly whispering under their breath, but all of them understood one thing Hajime Nagumo has left his mark on their world.
-----
Kokabiel's mind raced in pure disbelief. His once-confident sneer twisted into a grimace of desperation as he gathered seething orbs of corrupted light in both hands. His wings flared violently, beating against the oppressive air. Refusing to be caught, refusing to acknowledge the power standing before him, Kokabiel let out a furious roar and unleashed a barrage of destructive blasts toward Hajime.
Yet Hajime didn't even bother to move.
He stood there unshaken.
Golden chains erupted once more from the ground around him, intercepting every blast thrown to him by Kokabiel.
Kokabiel's strikes grew more frantic, more violent as fear creeped inside of him.
He raged, he cursed, he howled, sending wave after wave of annihilation toward Hajime only for the chains to respond each time with effortless, almost contemptuous grace.
Through it all, Hajime's expression remained... bored.
His eyes half-lidded, he watched Kokabiel's frantic assault with the detached disinterest of someone observing a child's tantrum.
"Hey, is this all you got?" Hajime asked, "I took my precious time answering your invitation and yet despite my efforts all I got is this?"
Kokabiel's heart skipped a beat.
For the first time in centuries, a human looked down upon him as if he were nothing but a speck of dust.
"I could use this valuable time to pamper Alice and Anis, instead of dealing with some old man." Hajime sneered.
The said girls blush looking away from everyone. While the rest look at Hajime in disbelief at his gal to flirt in the middle of a fight that could decide the very fate of this world.
Fear tightened in his chest as the chains picked up speed, closing in.
"No...! I am Kokabiel! One of the great four! I will not fall to a mere human!" he roared, pouring everything he had into one final blast.
Hajime didn't even flinch. With a small flick of his hand, golden chains surged up and swallowed the attack whole.
Kokabiel's wings faltered midair. His expression twisted as the chains caught up, dragging him down.
"No... this can't be...!" he shouted, the panic cracking his voice as the golden light surrounded him, outshining even his own corrupted aura.
He pushed back with everything he had left but it didn't matter. The battlefield itself had already chosen its side.
The golden chains slammed shut around Kokabiel's limbs, locking him midair before yanking him down hard. He twisted, thrashed, did everything he could but nothing broke the grip. The power he once flaunted meant nothing now.
Hajime stood on the cracked ground, arm lowering slowly. No expression. Just certainty.
"Fall, Kokabiel," he said. "It ends here."
The chains tightened all at once. Kokabiel's cry vanished into the light as he was dragged down for good.
Everything went still.
It was finally over and they had won.
