"Mum, can you start talking already? What the heck is going on?" I asked, with so much confusion masking my very being.
My chest rose and fell rapidly, a tight pressure building in my ribs. Something in Mum's face told me this wasn't ordinary, and whatever it was, it was seconds from breaking me.
Mum lifted her gaze to meet mine, her eyes more swollen than they had been a few minutes ago before Bianca's arrival.
"Son, remember the party we were supposed to go to the previous day?"
"And what about it?" I rolled my eyes, piecing the words together in my heart.
"It's time we go there," she finally said, and
I looked at her, frozen halfway between rising to my feet and collapsing under the weight of her words.
"Mum," I called out, but she stiffened, drying her tears as she stood up from the bed, flipped a glance at the unconscious Sonia, and turned toward the door.
