Another month had passed quietly.
"Damn, kill it already!" the bear frantically dodged huge fireballs, utilizing all of his climbing skills in the process.
The wyvern flew into the air, chasing the bear while ignoring the man who was quietly watching the show.
I watched him desperately dodge the wyvern's attacks. Earlier, for some reason, the bear had the courage and confidence to face the wyvern with a smug look, saying that he would handle it and I only needed to watch from the sidelines. But now, all of that courage and confidence had devolved into this sorry state.
With a sigh, I grabbed a loose rock near me, enhanced my physique with magic, and threw the rock toward the wyvern.
It broke the sound barrier multiple times, reaching a velocity of twenty-five thousand miles per hour. The rock hit the wyvern's head precisely, piercing it like butter, leaving a massive hole in its head and killing the wyvern instantly and painlessly.
The rock didn't stop and continued flying through the air at great speed, disappearing from view.
"How is it?" I asked the bear.
The bear, gasping for air, replied, "I thought they were weak."
"What made you think that?"
"Well, they're just glorified massive lizards with wings, so I thought I could kill them on my own," the bear said.
I shook my head after hearing that.
We continued to talk while exchanging verbal jabs. We kept climbing down, and then I noticed something approaching.
I turned toward it, and there I saw a flying seagull carrying a newspaper and a bag that had special magic. Within the bag were countless layers of space, each the size of ???. I couldn't see what was inside, and the bird wore a white marine hat.
The bear noticed my action, turned around, and saw the bird. "Morgan's News Birds."
"Who's Morgan?"
"He's a newspaper publisher in the New World. He's a Chaos Sovereignty."
"Also, these birds belong to the Old World branch, not the New World."
I listened to the bear's explanation while waving the bird to come.
"50 valis," the bird said while flapping its wings, indicating payment.
"I don't have money."
"Anything valuable equivalent to that price," the bird said dejectedly.
I took out a gold bar from my storage space. Upon seeing the gold, the bird's eyes shone and it eagerly stretched out its wings.
I gave the gold bar to him while getting a chunk of newspaper in return.
The bird bowed like a gentleman after the transaction and flew away gracefully, continuing its journey.
"Can you read, bear?" I asked the bear.
"No, not interested." The bear shook his head, continuing to climb down.
I put most of the newspaper in my Gate of Doors while leaving one copy for me to read.
I continued to climb down while reading the newspaper. The first thing that greeted me was the headline:
'Big News: Hera and Zeus Familia successfully completed two of the Great Quests, subjugating both Leviathan and Behemoth respectively.'
According to the newspaper, Hera Familia took out Leviathan. They worked together and defeated it. The star of this endeavor was Alfia the Silence.
The Zeus Familia did the same, and their star was Zald the Glutton.
Well, that's impressive. Those monsters were at least world-destroying threats back before the Great Change.
Leviathan was one-hit by a girl named Alfia, while Behemoth had been duking it out with Zald while his Familia watched from the sidelines.
I read through the newspaper, and the only interesting part was the headline.
After reading it, I tossed the newspaper back into the Gate of Doors, planning to use it as kindling to start a fire.
5 months later, September.
John and the bear were still climbing down—they had only covered 2/8 of the cliff. There was still a long way to go.
It was noon. John and the bear were resting on top of the rocky platform with the rocky camp on top.
They were at the edge, eating dinner, which was wyvern meat they'd caught a few minutes ago.
The bear stared at the starry sky as usual, while John stared into the distance at the second Tower Barrier. This Tower Barrier was unique—different from the one resting at the very center of the Old World. It was thinner.
This Tower Barrier was located at my destination, Orario. Apparently, all dungeons have this after the Great Change. When they evolved, this Tower Barrier also appeared—likely a result of the Chaos Sovereignty's hands.
I had some guesses about the reason for this action, but I wouldn't say it. I wasn't sure—it was only a hunch. Besides, I could see what was within, but I couldn't grasp its full scale.
While we were enjoying our meal, a news bird appeared in sight, getting my attention—and the bear's.
"Oh, this is the first time a second news bird came in a day," the bear said. We already have bought one early in morning.
"There must be something happening," I replied.
"So, how much?" The price of the newspaper kept changing based on its thickness. That's why each time I bought one, I needed to ask the bird.
"200 valis," the bird said.
I tossed some gold and grabbed a copy. The bird happily caught it with its wings and flew off.
"What's the news?" the bear asked curiously.
"Hera and Zeus Familia have been wiped out by the Black Dragon," I said, munching meat dismissively.
"That Familia got wiped out, huh. I thought they were stronger than Blacky-chan."
"What kind of nickname is that? And do dungeon monsters have friendly relationships with you guys?" I asked.
The bear scratched his head and replied with nonchalance, "The dungeons are one too."
That explains a lot. All dungeons are a Chaos Sovereignty too.
