The Kingdom of Re-Estize

Sesshōmaru's POV

After taking Gazef under my wing, we made our way through the immaculate halls of the Re-Estize royal palace. Everything here was so pristine, almost obsessively maintained. It made me wonder if the kingdom's finances were funneled solely into keeping up this illusion of splendor.

(All this wealth... hoarded by the royals. Boundless greed and immeasurable cruelty... these fools will know the wrath of a true daiyōkai. ...Wait... what's going on? My thoughts— they're becoming more calculated, more noble. Am I changing? Wasn't I once just laid back... a man who found joy in bringing others comfort? Yet now I think in this cold, analytical tone... like Sesshōmaru himself. Is his persona merging with mine? Raises eyebrow Can it?)

I kept my face composed, though my furrowed brow gave away some of the internal conflict. Gazef noticed and finally asked,

Gazef: "My lord, why are we going to see King Ramposa?"

I gave a faint smirk.

"Simple. I came to this kingdom to discuss peace. Now, I believe it's time King Ramposa and the Re-Estize royals see my kingdom in turn. Also, Gazef... don't call me 'king.' I understand your oath, but it doesn't mean your loyalties have shifted, has it?" Raises eyebrow

Gazef turned to me, his expression resolute.

Gazef: "You've earned the right to be called king. But you're right—this doesn't mean I've abandoned Re-Estize. It just means I'll fight for both our kingdoms until the bitter end."

I smiled, the joy in my voice evident.

"Good. This kingdom needs you now more than ever. But I want you to promise me something."

He stopped. Then, unexpectedly, dropped to one knee.

Gazef: "Anything, my lord."

I placed a hand on his shoulder, speaking with firm authority.

"Don't throw your life away. Not for a meaningless cause. I've seen how you fight—you take the brunt of danger without hesitation. That's noble, but reckless. If you die... this kingdom will fall. There is no second you."

Gazef looked shocked. I didn't let him speak. My voice grew sharper.

"I've seen the Blue Rose, Evil Eye, and dozens of adventurers. You know what I found? Weaklings. None of them could handle the threats that stalk the shadows of my lands. On a scale of one to ten, where ten could best me in battle, and one is a mere child... they barely score a four. With you? Maybe a six. But with my training, you could be a nine. But only if you live."

He clenched his fists until they bled, eyes shadowed by guilt and reflection.

Telepathy Cast

Gazef: (He's right… after fighting alongside Sesshōmaru, I've sensed just how vast his power is. He told me—he's only ever used three percent of it in our training. If I fall, if I die… Re-Estize has no second shield.) Blood drips from clenched fists (Sesshōmaru won't always be here. He's bound by his duties to the Kingdom of Light.) "I promise, my lord. I will act with caution and live to meet your expectations."

I healed his wounded hands with a minor spell. They glowed briefly before returning to normal.

"That's all I ask, Gazef. Now, I must speak to the king. Alone. After that... I have somewhere else I need to be."

As I entered the throne room, I couldn't help but wonder—

(How is Momonga faring these days?)

Time Skip – Nightfall in the Kingdom of Re-Estize

Third-Person POV

The Swords of Darkness sat around a glowing bonfire, laughter echoing through the woods.

Dyne: "You definitely got the worst of it."

Lukrut: "Oh yeah? You didn't see the other guy!" Laughs

Ninya: Laughs along

Momonga's POV

(Crap... if I drink this, it'll slip between my bones…)

Lukrut noticed Momon and Nabe weren't eating. Ever the flirt, he tried to charm her.

Lukrut: "What's wrong? Is the soup too hot? I could cool it in my mouth and feed you~"

Nabe snapped her spoon in half. Lukrut immediately sweated.

Momon stepped in.

"It's not the food. We're simply observing a religious tradition. In our faith, it's disrespectful to share a meal the same day we've taken lives."

Dyne: "Ahh... the Kingdom of Light has some interesting teachings. I respect that."

Nfirea leaned in, curious.

Nfirea: "Speaking of... Mr. Momon, what's it like?"

Momon: "What's what like?"

Nfirea: "Being the former head warrior of Lord Sesshōmaru?"

(Crap! What do I say?!) Beeping sound

{Sesshōmaru? What is it?}

Sesshōmaru: {I have my griffin watching over you. Just repeat what I say. I trust them—do not deviate.}

Momonga: {...How long have you—never mind. Fine. I'll follow your lead.}

Third-Person POV

Everyone turned as Momon finally spoke, his voice distant and wistful.

Momon: "Those were grim times... Long before Sesshōmaru's rule, the Kingdom of Light was at war with beings from beyond—beings twisted by threads of corruption. The war lasted 2,000 years."

Peter, Lukrut, Ninya, Dyne, Nfirea: "Oh no... / Shit... / Gasp / Hums sadly / Oh my god..."

Momon: "But one among them—a daiyōkai—rebelled. For the sake of humans. Can you guess who?"

The group stayed silent, until Nfirea's eyes widened.

Nfirea: "It was Sesshōmaru, wasn't it!?"

Everyone gasped. Momon flinched—not from the question, but from how much trust Sesshōmaru was placing in these people.

Momon: "Yes... Sesshōmaru is the last true daiyōkai. He sealed the corrupted world, locked its tainted threads away. But the being behind it all—Ragyō Kiryūin, queen of the stitched void—slaughtered his family for his defiance. Using the power of his mate's soul, Sesshōmaru destroyed Ragyō... but the price was his own peace of mind.

"Centuries passed. He eventually found love again with Lady Ragyō—once a corrupted being herself—but reborn anew. Still, even with her light... his heart grew cold. He turned his kingdom away from the world. Until recently. Now, after twenty-five years, hope has returned. Sesshōmaru walks again—not as a demon, but as the protector of all. The Silver Fang of Light."

The group sat stunned.

Peter: "So... that man we met was a demon… but that doesn't change anything. We owe him everything."

Ninya nodded with pride.

Ninya: "He helped me and my sister when no one else would. I don't care what he is. I'll help him keep this peace—no matter what."

Lukrut: "Normally I'd call this wild, but... something always felt off about him. Inhuman. But not in a bad way."

Dyne: "The Treaty of Unity speaks for itself. The greatest heroes in history weren't always human. Sesshōmaru is proof people can choose the better path."

Momonga's POV

(Sesshōmaru was right. Their loyalty is genuine. They're... like them. The old crew.)

I looked into the sky.

Momon: (I miss those days... more than anything.)

[The next episode is the season finale of Overlord. Stay tuned—and thank you for your patience.]
