Chapter 45 - Abomination

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s verification speed was absurdly fast.

Plus, with the word Nick Fury had put out…

The best talent, the best equipment!

It took almost no time at all—by evening, Natasha returned to Nick Fury's office with… a stack of documents.

Compared to last time, Natasha looked even more bewildered.

Nick Fury had been the director for many years. His ability to read people had reached a top-tier level.

Seeing Natasha in this state again…

Nick Fury had a bad feeling.

"Nick, see for yourself," Natasha said as she placed the stack of documents on the desk. "These are all of them."

She deliberately emphasized the word "all."

Nick Fury immediately picked up the documents and began reading.

Natasha explained from the side.

"According to your orders, we started looking for information on the mysterious Hunter last night."

"But the strange thing is, every piece of data we found was completely different."

"One was Asian, then the next was Caucasian, then the next was Indian, then the next one was American…"

"They lived in different places too—Europe, Asia…"

"Last night, we specifically selected a few targets near our bases across the globe to investigate, thinking we could confirm something…"

"But none of them were the mysterious Hunter. They were all just decoys he threw out to mislead us."

As Natasha explained,

Nick Fury's face darkened.

He recalled what he had said last night.

'Is there really anyone S.H.I.E.L.D. can't find?'

Now, just thinking about it made him feel deeply embarrassed.

Yes—there really is! And here's one example right in front of us!

Nick Fury shook his head helplessly and placed the documents back on the desk.

But he couldn't really be blamed.

What is S.H.I.E.L.D.? Its history can be traced all the way back to WW2. Now it's a United Nations agency with hundreds of thousands of agents, immense authority, and global presence, with bases almost everywhere.

So, Fury's thinking wasn't wrong—it made perfect sense. On Earth, who could S.H.I.E.L.D. not find?

Even god-level beings like Thor—once on Earth—could be dug up by S.H.I.E.L.D. if they really wanted to.

Just like Bruce Banner in The Avengers—he thought he was hiding well, but in truth, S.H.I.E.L.D. simply hadn't bothered to look. Once they did, they found him almost instantly.

But Blaine was different.

With the system protecting him, no clue could lead to him. No matter what the lead was, it would always end in a place completely unrelated to Blaine.

Nick Fury's face was as dark as ever.

S.H.I.E.L.D., after deploying who knows how many elite agents, was still being played like a fiddle!

Natasha didn't know what to say either.

They couldn't beat him, and they couldn't find him.

So what if she was the Black Widow? She wasn't better than those top-level experts in tech, and that title didn't scare the mysterious Hunter who had appeared that day.

As the atmosphere in the office grew more and more tense—

Nick Fury's trusted aide, Phil Coulson, suddenly burst in: "Director, we've got a situation!"

"Coulson, how many times have I told you—knock before entering the office," Fury shook his head first, then asked, "What happened?"

"General Ross from the New York military is requesting our assistance. A monster, formerly a soldier, is rampaging through Manhattan!" Phil Coulson ignored Fury's scolding—he knew this wasn't the time for formalities.

He quickly pulled a tablet from his coat, tapped a few times, and projected the video feed.

Fury's eyes narrowed as he looked at the screen.

Phil Coulson was one of his most trusted aides—he wouldn't bring baseless reports.

Sure enough, once he saw the video—

Nick Fury's expression turned completely grim.

The footage showed Manhattan's streets—but unlike the usual prosperous scene, the area was in chaos. A massive, hideous creature with scaly skin and a long dorsal fin on its back was wreaking havoc.

"ROAR!"

With a thunderous roar, sound waves burst forth like seawater, blasting in all directions. The ground of Manhattan's 4th District split open, chunks of stone flying into the air. Several civilians were crushed to death on the spot.

Its strength was monstrous. Every punch and stomp cracked the pavement, and surrounding cars were crushed like toys.

Its defense was just as terrifying—no amount of SWAT handguns, submachine guns, or rifles could even scratch it. It was like trying to shoot solid steel, only sparking and further enraging the beast.

It leapt over a hundred meters with ease, grabbed a tank's cannon barrel—boom! The cannon exploded, the tank was blown apart, but the monster's hand remained unscathed.

The scene was utterly shocking, a total disaster. Screams, wails, and sobs echoed all around—like a living hell.

"AHHH!!"

The terrified crowds screamed wildly. Many were so scared they couldn't even move, watching helplessly as a massive truck—normally immovable—was lifted into the air and smashed onto them.

Even at death, they had no idea where the monster came from.

Or why it was doing this.

(Blaine: People living in the Marvel world are really unlucky—every other day it's New York or Earth getting destroyed. Tragic…)

The monster was slaughtering civilians without restraint. It seemed to have lost all reason. No one knew what it wanted.

"Sh*t!"

A shred of remaining humanity made General Ross—aboard an armed helicopter—roar in fury.
