Rain Pov
This morning was the second day at the fighting pit.
It was exactly as Mara and Grandma Lolo had told me. A living hell on earth.
Yesterday was the day I began. The start of my new, cursed life. Kai himself, that smirking piece of scum, had dragged me to the pit with a twisted grin on his face, like a kid about to open a new toy. I could still hear his voice in my head, dripping with venom and cruel excitement.
Yesterday, I didn't kill anyone. I just couldn't do it. Even with blood in my mouth and wolves clawing at my flesh, something in me clung to the last shred of humanity I had left.
But Kai made sure to remind me what was at stake. "Twenty-nine more days," he'd said, sneering down at me. "And if you don't kill before the clock runs out, you'll be my bitch forever." Those were his exact words. His voice had been a blade, slicing what was left of my soul.
