As Raiden was curiously observing the various religious organizations around him, a figure was quietly sneaking up on him!
"Hey!"
"Oh!"
Someone hugged Raiden from behind.
"Sir, I've missed you so much. You've been gone for so long" Wayne said, tightly embracing Raiden from behind.
"Alright, alright, kid, let go" Raiden said helplessly upon hearing Wayne familiar voice.
But Wayne still didn't release Raiden. Raiden patted Wayne hands that were holding him and said,
"Alright, kid, look around. Don't you want to find a girlfriend in the future? If you don't, sorry, but I do."
Upon hearing this, Wayne glanced around and noticed some strange looks from the passing crowd. He coughed twice and quickly let go of Raiden.
Raiden smiled wryly and turned around.
However, as soon as Raiden turned around, Wayne wanted to give him a big hug from the front. Fortunately, Raiden pushed him away, stopping Wayne's action.
"Enough, kid, what's gotten into you?" Raiden asked, puzzled by Wayne's excessive enthusiasm.
"Sir, I haven't been able to reach you for a week. I'm your driver! I should always be by your side," Wayne said with a grievance.
"Is that so?" Raiden touched his nose.
Damn, Raiden phone had run out of battery and shut down long ago, and since he didn't use it, he hadn't charged it until today.
Obviously, Raiden hadn't set up a considerate missed call reminder service, so he had thought no one had tried to contact him in the past week.
"Sir, do you know how worried I was when I was earning a weekly salary of two thousand yuan but hadn't seen my boss for a whole week? I thought you were going to fire me. My family just got a new fridge..." Wayne continued to complain with grievance beside Raiden.
"Alright, stop it, kid. It's already 5:47 PM. Don't you think we should go for dinner?" Raiden waved his hand, stopping Wayne from continuing.
"Alright, sir" Wayne covered his mouth with his hand and then whispered through a small gap.
"Wayne, where's the car?" Raiden sighed.
"Follow me, sir" Wayne led Raiden towards the parking lot.
Along the way, they encountered religious organizations occupying Times Square in New York. After squeezing through a group of oddly dressed believers, Raiden and Wayne finally reached the parking lot.
After getting into the car, Raiden looked out the window and said to Wayne.
"These people are crazy, aren't they? Are they out of their minds?"
Wayne adjusted the rearview mirror and said. "It's all because of the miracles that appeared in the Middle East, sir. Do you think there are gods in this world?"
"Gods?" Raiden shook his head and asked in return "Wayne, do you think there are gods in this world?"
"Yes!" Wayne said firmly, then hesitantly added "Maybe."
The car started, and Wayne drove out of the parking lot. "Sir, where are we going now?"
"Just take us to a nice restaurant," Raiden said casually, still looking out the window.
"Then how about going to my house? My mother is very grateful for the great job you gave me, and she really wants to invite you for a meal, sir" Wayne said cautiously.
Raiden nodded and said.
"Of course, but please don't have fried onion rings or any other food made with onions. I hate onions."
"Sure, sir!" Wayne replied with delight.
Hearing the joy in Wayne voice, a slight smile couldn't help but form on Raiden lips.
However, the car fell into a brief silence.
After a while, Wayne hesitantly said. "Sir, although I know I shouldn't ask, where have you been for the past week? I went to the company to ask, but they told me you never showed up for work... Luckily, Mr. Hogan, Mr. Stark driver, told me you went abroad on business, or I would have been really worried."
After hearing Wayne question, Raiden remained silent for a moment, then looked out the window at the religious protesters on the street and asked Wayne, seemingly off-topic.
"Wayne, do you believe in religion?"
"My mother is a Catholic, and my father and I, we just have faith" Wayne replied.
It was an interesting answer.
Perhaps Wayne also believed in Catholicism—no, of course he did. The vast majority of people in America believed in Catholicism.
But more of them believed without being superstitious. They saw God as a guidepost, but they would never see God as the path itself.
Because they understood that there were no gods in this world. Faith was just a way to praise the world and give themselves confidence.
"Wayne, what do you think about what's happening in the Middle East? The person, or the god, who caused all of this," Raiden said, pointing out the window.
"It's amazing, isn't it, sir? It's truly incredible. Many terrorist organizations have disappeared. He saved so many people. Maybe he really is a god" Wayne said, shaking his head in awe, his voice filled with admiration and longing.
Raiden smiled without speaking, his heart hesitating.
Tony was a lucky guy. He had a great assistant, Happy. And as for himself, perhaps Wayne could also play the role of Happy and become his capable assistant.
Yes, this kid was suited for the role. He had a good heart, and most importantly, he was a great driver. Oh, and he could also fly planes!
"Wayne, pull over" Raiden said.
"Sure, sir" Wayne quickly found a spot by the roadside and pulled over.
"What's wrong, sir?" Wayne asked after parking the car.
Raiden didn't speak, but a pen flew out from the armrest box next to Wayne, floating in front of his eyes.
"Oh! Sir, is this a new magic trick you learned? It's amazing," Wayne exclaimed, waving his hand around the pen, but it remained unaffected.
"It's incredible, truly incredible... My goodness!"
Raiden sat in the back seat, his finger twitching slightly. A flame appeared out of thin air on the pen, and a small fire snake danced around it.
"Wayne, what happened in the Middle East—I did it" Raiden said, snapping his fingers. The flame on the pen instantly extinguished, and a bolt of electricity flashed across the pen before it flew back into the armrest box.
"Oh my god, oh my god, my lord! Sir... my boss is a god?"
Instantly, Wayne mind was flooded with scenes from various movies and TV shows—American Gods, Bruce Almighty, and the like.
In short, Wayne felt that his ordinary life was about to take a dramatic turn.
"A god, well, actually more of a superhero" Raiden said, a hint of vanity creeping into his heart, but he quickly corrected himself.
However, Wayne didn't care about the details. In his eyes, Raiden was a god—a god with immense power and noble actions. Wayne had read countless reports about the Middle East, and he idolized Raiden.
"Then, sir... why are you telling me this? Do you need me to do something? I can do anything. I can become your follower, if you need me to. I believe my whole family could worship you" Wayne turned to Raiden and spoke with a fanatical fervor.
"No, no, calm down, Wayne. You can be my assistant. I'm not a god, I'm a human, a superhero! A superhero, you understand? Like Tony" Raiden quickly clarified, seeing Wayne fanaticism.
Raiden needed an assistant, not a zealous follower.
"An assistant to a superhero? Oh, that's amazing!" Wayne calmed down a bit, but the excitement on his face was still hard to suppress.
"Exactly, we'll be like Batman and Robin" Raiden nodded.
"Batman?" Wayne face showed a hint of confusion. "Is he a superhero like you and Mr. Stark?"
"You don't know Batman? Alright then, let's say we're like Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson!" Raiden thought for a moment and suggested.
"Who's Sherlock Holmes?" Wayne asked, puzzled.
"My god, what a dull world. Then let's just be ourselves, Wayne. Let's write our own story" Raiden extended his hand to Wayne.
Wayne hesitated for a moment, then high-fived Raiden.
"Alright, sir."
