Chapter 26 - Let the USJ games began

Guys extra long chapter for round 2 VGS

----

The crowd roared as the final round of the dance battle ended with a dazzling flip, twirl, and pose from a pink-haired student who collapsed into dramatic laughter. The spotlight dimmed, cheers echoing across the stadium. Present Mic's voice echoed through the arena, energized as always.

"AND THAT'S A WRAP FOR ROUND ONE! Y'ALL BROUGHT THE HEAT—BUT ONLY 32 GET TO MOVE ON!"

The massive screen above the stadium lit up with holographic text.

> Top 5 Rankings – Round 1 (Dance Battle)

1. Mina Ashido – 96/100

2. Jason Lax – 94/100

3. Kyoka Jiro – 92/100

5. Denki Kaminari – 88/100

Total Advancing: 32<

Jason leaned against a railing just outside the arena's staging area, arms crossed loosely, watching the names scroll past. Mina danced up to him, still buzzing from her win, glowing with pride and a little sweat.

"Not bad for a bunch of hero trainees, huh?" she grinned.

Jason smirked. "You spun so hard I thought you were trying to drill into the stage."

"Jealousy's not a good look on you, Gas Boy."

He clicked his tongue. "If I went all-out, the stage would've caught fire—figuratively."

Momo walked up beside them, expression cool but the faintest tint of pink brushing her cheeks. She glanced at Jason but didn't say anything. He elbowed her lightly.

"Number four, huh? Guess you can groove when properly pressured," he teased.

"I had no intention of losing," she said primly. "Besides... I wasn't the one who slipped mid-slide."

Jason narrowed his eyes. "That was intentional. It was flair."

"Sure," she said, hiding her smile behind a sip of water.

Before Jason could fire back, Midnight stepped onto the raised platform, now repurposed as a briefing stage. Behind her, a massive hologram blinked to life.

"Students! Congratulations to our top 32 competitors!" she announced, voice ringing. "It's time to begin Round Two: Combat Simulation – Video Game Mode!"

The stadium buzzed.

"Let me explain," Midnight continued. "Each of you will be placed inside a high-level simulation that replicates a digital city environment. You'll be given temporary support gear based on your quirks and assigned to solo missions across the map. Your objective: earn the highest score within 20 minutes."

A 3D map rotated behind her, displaying a futuristic, semi-ruined metropolis dotted with glowing points.

"There are enemy AIs, bonus items, civilian rescue events, and ambush hazards hidden throughout. The more efficient and stylish your performance, the higher your score."

She raised a hand. "And no alliances. This is a free-for-all."

Groans and murmurs spread across the 1-A and 1-B clusters. Bakugo cracked his knuckles, eyes already calculating. Todoroki remained quiet but visibly attentive. Denki looked confused. Jason just grinned.

Present Mic took over. "This tech is courtesy of the Department of Hero Support! You'll be jacked into full-body sensory suits and plugged into a game-style sim. If you take damage, you lose points. If you get KO'd, you're out."

Jason raised a brow. "So basically—Fortnite meets Heroics."

Momo crossed her arms. "I've studied simulation formats. Efficiency, awareness, and time management will matter most."

He leaned over. "Bet you a bento I place higher."

She blinked. "You're on."

Inside the Simulation Pod Room

Students were divided into groups and led to sleek metallic pods resembling cryo-chambers. One by one, they stepped in, nervous or hyped depending on the student.

Jason sat inside his pod, sensors attaching to his limbs, the neural uplink humming softly. He took a deep breath. Then—

> Simulation initializing…

Player: Jason Lax – Quirk Profile Confirmed Custom Loadout Generated Mission Start in 3… 2… 1…

Light engulfed him.

Digital Arena: Cyber City

Jason materialized mid-air, landing gracefully on a rooftop overlooking a glowing neon-lit district, steam hissing from vents. His body felt the same—no weight differences, no delay. The gear on him was light: a sleek stealth suit with wrist grapples and a readout HUD blinking across his left eye.

"Alright," he muttered. "Time to hunt."

The first alert blared—"Enemy AI detected in Sector 4C."

Jason moved.

Sliding down a metal slope, he dropped into an alley and flicked into his gaseous state—turning translucent, his figure billowing upward in a silent rush. It felt different inside the sim, less restrained. But he kept the clock in mind. 10 seconds max. He floated over an enemy patrol—a humanoid robot with metal claws—and reformed behind it mid-fall.

CRACK! A clean kick to the back of the head sent it sprawling. A flick of his grapple latched onto a light pole, slinging him toward another skirmish point.

"Let's keep the tempo up," he said.

Elsewhere, Momo was locked in a high-rise tower scenario, having just saved a group of simulated civilians. She used her cannon gauntlets to blast a wave of AI drones and earn combo bonuses. Her form was efficient, almost clinical, but something lingered in her expression.

Jason's voice echoed in her head.

"Bet you a bento I place higher."

She pushed harder.

Live Commentary Room

Present Mic's voice narrated as aerial footage from dozens of feeds played on the stadium screens.

"OHHH! JIRO'S SHREDDING HER WAY THROUGH THE SOUNDWAVE TOWER—CHECK THAT SONIC PULSE COMBO! …AND LOOK AT LAX—DID HE JUST TURN INTO MIST MID-AMBUSH!? THIS GUY'S GOT STYLE POINTS COMING!"

Aizawa, arms folded, murmured to All Might beside him. "He's unorthodox, but efficient."

All Might nodded, eyes following Jason's trajectory. "He's fast… and unpredictable. That will serve him well."

---

Jason – Mid-Game

Jason perched atop a traffic light, scanning the HUD for his next bonus opportunity. A blinking "!!" warned of a sniper drone ahead.

He smirked.

Diving forward, he rolled behind a wrecked car. The sniper laser tracked him, and in response, Jason shifted into gas once more—evading the shot and reappearing on the drone's perch. With a smooth combo of elbow-strike and roundhouse, he disabled the target.

+150 POINTS. BONUS: NO DAMAGE TAKEN.

"Eat that, princess."

He kept moving, speed increasing, playfulness giving way to a competitive edge.

Final Minute

The screen flashed:

> 60 SECONDS REMAINING

All 32 players were pushing their limits. Bakugo detonated a hover-tank. Todoroki froze a skyscraper's floor. Denki overloaded a control panel and electrocuted three AI guards—then zapped himself in the process.

Jason, panting lightly, kicked open a final vault door and tackled the boss drone inside—a six-limbed mech firing red lasers from its eyes. The fight was fast and flashy, with Jason using every trick—his grapples, his gas form, and even a mid-air clone feint to draw fire.

When it finally collapsed, the game score updated on-screen:

> BOSS DEFEATED – +500 POINTS

JASON LAX: SCORE – 1870

Simulation End

The simulation ended with a pulse. One by one, the pods opened.

Jason sat up, catching his breath. His hair was slightly damp with sweat, a grin forming as he stepped out.

"Okay," he muttered. "That was actually fun."

Momo exited her pod next. She gave him a look.

"Well?"

He stretched. "Not gonna say anything until results drop."

"You're nervous you lost."

"More like hyped to see how close you got," he replied, flashing a lazy grin.

She huffed and folded her arms—but a small smile tugged at her lips nonetheless.
