PENELOPE'S POV
Ronan's scream tore the silence apart.
I snapped my head up. Silver light still poured from my hands like liquid fire. I could feel his pain, sharp as a knife, even through this imaginary place. His body shook so hard that I thought he'd broken his bones.
Stop it! Seraphina yelled, her voice sounded like she was underwater. You're putting him in pains!
I tried to stop it, but I couldn't. It had tasted blood and power and wanted more. The silver light got brighter, reaching out like hungry fingers, searching for more people to hurt.
"I can't!" I screamed, tears running down my eyes. I can't stop it!
Then don't stop it, Seraphina said, her voice suddenly calm and cold. Control it. Make it your own.
What?
You're fighting your own power. That's why it's out of control. Stop fighting and start controlling.
The idea scared me. What if I couldn't control it? What if I turned into someone awful, like Lyralei, power-hungry and ready to hurt anyone in my way?
