"Why did you do it?" Jess's voice breaks the silence before he even realizes he's speaking. His eyes are fixed on Tanner, voice trembling with restrained pain. "Why are you so determined to make my life a living hell, Tanner? What did I ever do to you?"
Tanner freezes where he stands. The sharpness in Jess's words cuts through him like a blade. He slowly turns to face Jess, his expression unsure, like he doesn't know how to respond or where to begin.
Jess doesn't give him the chance to speak. His voice rises, breath catching on the anger that's been building for a while now.
"How did you do it?" he continues, his voice cracking but firm. "How did you manage to make me pregnant with your baby?" His eyes closes before turning them back to Tanner, "Actually, I should be happy it turned out to be yours. That you're the leader now. That's what I wanted. I wished for it, even after all the hell you dragged me through."
