I smiled as gently as I could, curtsying as I said, "Your Highness, Prince Stephen, please believe me, this is all a misunderstanding."
I felt his blade touch the side of my throat as he said, "So you know who I am? Yet you spoke to me so casually when I arrived."
My heart was beating so fast, I thought it would jump out of my chest as I said, "Forgive me, Your Highness. I didn't recognize you."
"Keep talking and I'll make sure you end up dead like the last girl who pissed me off."
I rolled my eyes and mumbled, "The Crown Prince, killing a noble girl during a tea party wouldn't be good for your rep, you idiot."
"What did you call me?!"
Dang it, did I say that out loud?!
I was sweating bullets as I tried to figure out how to get out of this mess. Sure, I wasn't that attached to this life, dying again didn't really sound that bad.
But I couldn't die now. Not like this. Not because of that brat, Hera!
I stood straight, hesitating before saying, "What I mean is that if people find out the Crown Prince killed a noble for such a reason, they might say Your Highness is too rash to be the heir to the throne."
"Mind your tongue!"
I tried to steady my heartbeat as I said, "I only want the best for you, Your Highness."
"She's right, Brother. You killing a noble, especially Earl Sebastian's daughter, wouldn't look good," a familiar voice suddenly said.
We both turned towards the voice as Sophia stood there.
She turned to Stephen as she said, "I brought lady Hera to the palace, so this is my fault brother she was my responsibility so please don't harm her. For my sake and yours."
Stephen glared at me before picking Hera up like a princess and walking away, saying, "Fine, but next time Selina, was it? You won't be so lucky."
I smiled as I said, "Till next time, Your Highness." trying not to correct him.
And I hope I never see you again, you disaster magnet.
Sophia's voice snapped me out of my thoughts as she asked, "Are you okay, Lady Selene?"
"Oh yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for your help." I replied, trying not to tell her how cute she was!
She could totally be a good influencer, or maybe even a model or movie star!
"How did you know I was here? You didn't just happen to be passing by, did you?" I asked her.
There was no way she was just passing by, the party was definitely still going on so the person hosting it couldn't just walk away, especially a princess.
Sophia paused before saying, "No, it seems you have a guardian angel, Lady Selene. A mysterious man informed me my brother was about to do something that could jeopardise his position as crown prince and that would cost you your life."
"Did you see his face?"
"No but when I turned around I did manage to see a little of his hair, black with a streak of red. He was dressed like a butler but I'm sure he doesn't work here since I didn't recognise his voice."
Banana guy?!
Wait, she said his hair was mainly black? If I remember correctly, his hair was all red. Did he change his appearance to not be recognized?
I snapped out of my thoughts as I said, "Thank you for your help princess Sophie, and for the dress. I'm sorry but I'm a bit shaken up from the encounter with the prince so I'll have to leave the party sooner than expected."
"Of course, please get some rest and I apologize on my older brother's behalf. Till your ball, I suppose."
I left the party grinning from ear to ear as I was able to successfully get out earlier than planned as I headed into town to shop for books.
I was running through a shop that had so many books and a large majority were story books!
Sure, I preferred watching films in my past life but books in this world feel like treasure.
The shop owner, an old man, smiled as he said, "It's been so long since I saw a young person this excited about books."
My face turned a little red from embarrassment. I had been acting like a little kid!
He chuckled, noticing before saying, "I hope you'll become a regular."
"Definitely! I can promise that I alone will keep your business open as long as I'm alive!"
"Is that so? Then I leave the fate of my store in your hands."
Trixie leaned in closer to me as she said, "My lady we should soon start returning to the estate."
I nodded before turning back to the old man saying, "Your best book series, please."
He nodded, heading to one of the shelves before returning back with about 5 books in his hand saying, "That'll be 5 silver coins. But since this is your first time I'll give it to you for 3 silver coins."
"Thanks a lot!" I said, then turned to Trixie and whispered, "Do we have money?"
"You entered a shop without knowing if we had money?" Trixie replied, looking annoyed.
I nodded as she sighed before saying, "Yes you do." handing the man 3 silver coins.
We sat in the carriage as I was falling from side to side as I was trying not to fall asleep.
After about 15 minutes we arrived in the mansion that's in the capital.
I immediately ran to my room carrying all the books I had gotten before jumping onto my bed ready to start reading the rest when my heart almost jumped out of my chest.
I sat up facing a certain redhead that was sitting on a chair, sure he was wearing a mask but I could just tell he had a satisfied smile on his face because he scared me.
"You do know you could use the door or in fact come in through the window. But just stop appearing like that!" I said glaring at him.
He chuckled, replying, "Is that any way to treat the person who just saved your life today."
"So it really was you. You're the guardian angel."
"That's correct, you know that title isn't half bad."
"Why are you even here?"
"I just wanted to see your beautiful face, I missed you."
I stared at him not buying it one bit before making my way towards the door to leave.
"Okay, okay I'll tell you why I'm here just sit."
"Fine, if you get me a phone."
"You're asking me to get you a phone?"
"Yes, sure reading isn't half bad but there's only so much I can take!"
"How would you even charge it when it dies? Where do you plan to get the internet from?"
"You're a celestial, you figure it out for me!"
"You're an idiot and you're so inconsiderate!"
"You're meant to make sure I have a happy life. It's the least you can do! Do you know how boring life is right now!"
"You almost got beheaded by the Crown Prince, how was that boring?"
"I meant it's not entertaining, that was everything but entertaining!"
"You're even more annoying than that jerk!"
"Why are you even here?" I replied.
"I'll be busy for the next months so I won't be able to save you everyday or even come to see you. Try not to miss me. And if it's a life or death moment just say my name and I'll know you're in trouble."
He grabbed a bottle with a slightly glowing blue liquid inside from his pocket and took a sip before doing a two finger salute and that's when I remembered I still didn't know his name before I could say anything he disappeared.
