Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Sealing Jutsu: Fire Seal

〖10:00 AM〗

Under Setsuna's guidance, you began learning how to use sealing scrolls. Thanks to the aid of your two-tomoe Sharingan, you picked it up quickly. However, you're currently only able to store small, non-energetic objects.

At that moment, Boss Black Cat contacted you telepathically. He said he'd found a basic runes textbook from the Uzumaki clan—likely a relic from when the clan was destroyed long ago. After passing through many hands, the nearly pristine scrolls had eventually been collected by the ninja cats who deal in ninja tool trade.

If you wanted it, he could get it for a "friends-only" price—15 million ryo.

Faced with a price nearing half an Asuma, you panicked and turned to consult Setsuna. But to your surprise, he didn't hesitate at all.

"You've struck gold," he said simply, then brought up a huge chest of cash from the basement and ordered the ninja cats to deliver it immediately.

You used Summoning Jutsu to summon both Boss Black Cat and the materials he mentioned. When you saw the literal mountain of scrolls he brought, you couldn't help but gasp.

Just the beginner rune manuals numbered in the hundreds. Each scroll covered an entire rune category, and every one was divided into three difficulty levels, ranging from basic to advanced. On top of that were hundreds more scrolls on rune combinations and advanced applications.

This wasn't just teaching you Fuinjutsu—it was dissecting it, grinding it to dust, and spoon-feeding it to you.

Even with the Sharingan, you realized that mastering this entire set of beginner materials would take no less than ten years.

According to Setsuna, who became renowned during Konoha's early years, this set was something only the Uzumaki clan's heir candidates—their most gifted—were allowed to study.

But that wasn't your current mission. Setsuna only bought it because when you brought back his Sharingan, he correctly deduced that you were able to bring objects through space-time. That's why he made the purchase.

...

〖11:00 AM〗

Uchiha Setsuna opened three of the scrolls and explained some of the most basic runes used in Fuinjutsu. Seeing that you picked it up fairly quickly, he began reassessing your talent.

He then asked if there were any specific sealing techniques you wanted to learn. You requested a jutsu that could seal special types of fire.

Setsuna frowned slightly and said there were two such techniques in the Uchiha clan, but both were extremely difficult and demanding. He warned you to be mentally prepared for failure.

You nodded. Setsuna explained that both sealing techniques were A-rank in difficulty. One was called the Sealing Jutsu: Fire Seal, and the other, Transcription Seal.

You asked for details on the two:

The Sealing Jutsu: Fire Seal required learning many foundational runes, needed a large sealing scroll, and had to be inscribed and activated very quickly.

The Transcription Seal, on the other hand, required a fully awakened three-tomoe Sharingan. It involved sealing fire techniques—and potentially other jutsu—directly into your eyes, but at great risk.

Each technique had its pros and cons. The Sealing Jutsu: Fire Seal was harder to learn and only effective against fire, but safer. The Transcription Seal was more versatile and quicker to deploy but heavily taxing on your ocular power and less stable.

Not knowing how long it would take you to awaken your three-tomoe Sharingan, you chose the Sealing Jutsu: Fire Seal.

...

〖12:00 PM〗

Boss Black Cat brought lunch for both of you. After eating, Uchiha Setsuna cast Genjutsu: Time on you.

With no physical space around you, your vision went black—you couldn't feel your body, but your thoughts accelerated. Under Setsuna's instruction, you learned how to maintain a half-conscious state within the genjutsu.

You mastered the technique of syncing your accelerated thoughts with awareness of the real world.

Using this time dilation, you rapidly flipped through rune scrolls and began sketching them at high speed onto blank seal paper with your chakra.

...

〖1:00 PM〗

You finally crammed in all the rune knowledge required for the Sealing Jutsu: Fire Seal and managed to scrawl out a crude version of the required formation.

With Setsuna's guidance, you spat out a test Fireball Jutsu and directed it at the seal. The instant the fire touched the runes, it was completely absorbed.

Encouraged, you drew another Sealing Jutsu: Fire Seal and unleashed a fireball twice the size.

The new seal barely held. The paper even started to smoke and curl at the edges from the strain, but in the end, it absorbed all the flames.

You wanted to keep practicing, but Setsuna stopped you.

Looking in the mirror, you saw deep eye bags and a gaunt face—you looked like you'd just barely recovered from a serious illness. The accelerated thinking and rune inscription had badly drained your Spirit.

...

〖2:00 PM〗

You took a nap to recover your Spirit.

...

〖3:00 PM〗

You proposed heading to the riverside to eliminate three Root operatives you had already marked.

Setsuna, interested in testing your combat abilities, agreed to come along.

When you arrived, the three Root shinobi were still diligently digging. You moved to strike first, but Setsuna stopped you—he planned to reverse-deploy a barrier jutsu to trap them.

...

〖4:00 PM〗

Once the barrier was complete, you leapt from hiding and spat out a massive Fireball Jutsu. A sea of flames engulfed the three targets in an instant.

You rapidly formed hand seals, drawing a water column straight from the river and blasting it into the fire. The sudden temperature shock from fire and water created high-pressure steam.

The three Root shinobi, who had coated themselves in chakra, were instantly wounded. The scalding steam smothered them, making it nearly impossible to breathe.

One of them, a Lightning Release user, shocked himself to regain consciousness and lunged at you with a short blade. You focused chakra under your feet and used the Body Flicker Technique to easily dodge.

As you crossed paths, you activated your Sharingan and cast Demonic Illusion: Shackles of the Mind, locking his consciousness inside a genjutsu. Then, you seized his blade and cut him down.

Just then, the other two shinobi recovered from the steam and tried to perform a coordinated jutsu.

But you stared them down. With the Sharingan: Genjutsu, you channeled your Spirit and condensed it into a short sword—Soul Slash. You fired it at one of them.

The Root ninja collapsed as the mental blade pierced him—blood poured from every orifice. He died instantly.

Even though you'd taken out two enemies in quick succession, your Spirit was dangerously low. Still, you forced yourself to stay upright, hurled several shuriken at the last one, then charged with the short blade.

The shuriken disrupted his hand seals, and in a panic, the final Root operative pulled out a kunai to block.

You unleashed Uchiha-style Kenjutsu, using him like a whetstone to hone your blade.

He didn't last long.

Afterward, Setsuna emerged from the shadows. He had been watching from nearby and now pointed out the flaws in your fighting style:

You used too many flashy techniques and lacked a decisive finishing move. Your management of Spirit, ocular power, and physical stamina was poor. If there had been even one more enemy, you might have collapsed from exhaustion.

Still, your style had the potential for deadly ambushes. With so many unpredictable attacks, even elite jonin would struggle to counter them effectively—especially with Soul Slash and Demonic Illusion: Shackles of the Mind mixed in, both of which could be lethal to high-level opponents.

You suggested meeting the clan elder now and exposing Konoha's conspiracy—perhaps buying yourselves more time.

But Setsuna replied coldly, "Sooner or later, we all die. If you've got a problem with that, fight."

He then declared his intent to kill off every last barrier ninja. And if possible… he'd even take you deep into the Root's base.
