Chapter 39 - Reserve Wizard Track

Robb could feel the spell model stabilizing in his spiritual space.

The droplet-shaped energy structure no longer flickered faintly like before; it now held a steady form, and its internal energy flow had become more rhythmic and harmonious.

When he opened his eyes, a faintly glowing glob of slime had already formed at his fingertips. Without requiring any fine-tuning, it shot precisely toward the target stone.

The moment it hit, the slime rapidly solidified, anchoring the stone firmly to the floor, completely immovable.

The speed of solidification and the adhesive strength far surpassed any previous version of the spell he had cast.

[Mucus Splash Experience +3]

[Current Progress: Mucus Splash (Novice 49/50)]

"Just one more..." Robb murmured to himself, quickly calculating how many more casts he needed to reach Adept level. "One more time."

This time, he decided to push his innovation further.

If the vibration frequency of spiritual power could influence spell effects, could he synchronize that vibration with his breathing technique?

Robb adjusted his breath, gradually aligning the frequency of his spiritforce with the rhythm of his breathwork.

This was a completely new attempt—fusing two seemingly unrelated techniques.

As his breathing settled into rhythm, the frequency of his energy's vibration adjusted as well.

It was chaotic at first, but he soon found a resonant harmony.

Surprisingly, the result was remarkable.

His spiritforce seemed to gain a life of its own, naturally flowing along the most optimal paths, forming a far more stable spell model than before.

When he cast the spell again, the slime volume had clearly increased, and the solidification was much faster.

Not only was the target stone immobilized, but a small area of the ground around it was glued down as well—forming a miniature sticky trap zone.

[Mucus Splash Experience +1]

[Breakthrough! Mucus Splash (Novice 50/50) → Mucus Splash (Adept MAX)]

[Gained Passive Trait: Viscous (Faster solidification; stronger adhesion)]

With this breakthrough, Robb felt the very nature of the spell had changed.

What was once just a basic slime projectile had evolved into a powerful control-type ability.

The slime wasn't just more abundant—it was also tougher. Once solidified, it was nearly impossible to remove through brute force at his current tier.

The only downside was that as a zero-circle spell, this was likely its limit. Perhaps after becoming a true wizard, he could develop compound spells using it as a base.

But for now, more importantly—he had met all the conditions to advance to the [Apprentice Wizard] class!

[Spiritual Power ≥ 2.0 ✔]

[Basic Meditation Method Proficient ✔]

[One Adept Spell Mastered ✔]

[Would you like to advance to — Apprentice Wizard?]

Robb didn't hesitate: "Confirm advancement."

A surge of powerful energy burst from deep within him, flooding his entire body like a broken dam.

The sensation was far more intense than either of his previous class transitions. The very air in the room seemed to freeze. Even the moonlight outside the window twisted as it fell across the walls.

Robb could clearly feel his connection to the world shifting.

Magic, once only passively perceptible, was now something he could begin to actively manipulate.

It was like going from a spectator of the world to someone who could actually participate in and influence its rules.

Every breath and heartbeat now resonated with the surrounding magic, forming a sense of harmony he had never known before.

[Class Advancement Successful!]

[New Class: Apprentice Wizard ★1.5]

[Base Attributes Increased:]

Spirit: 2.0 → 2.4 (+0.4)

Physique: 1.4 → 1.5 (+0.1)

Magic: 0.4 → 0.7 (+0.3)

[Unlocked Class Skills:]

Spell Construction (Novice)

Mental Disruption (Novice)

[Special Bonuses:]

Slightly increased spell experience gain

Slightly increased spiritforce growth rate

Slightly increased magic capacity and recovery speed

At first glance, these attribute gains seemed underwhelming compared to the ones from his earlier Knight Apprentice class transition. It didn't quite match the outside world's portrayal of how wizards surpassed knights so thoroughly.

But attribute values weren't just raw numbers. Just the jump from Spirit 2.0 → 2.4 was far more impactful than any increases under 2.0.

This was more than just numerical growth—it was a qualitative leap.

Robb could now clearly sense the ambient magic flow around him. He could even start guiding it with intent.

Particles of energy, once invisible, were now vivid and tangible in the air.

He could even precisely locate the faint magical traces embedded within the materials of the room itself.

[Class Synergy Detected:]

Apprentice Wizard + Knight Apprentice + Alchemy Apprentice

Gained Additional Synergy Bonuses:

Slight boost to potion effectiveness.

Slight boost to coordination between soul and physique.

Even with just three classes, the synergy was beyond Robb's expectations. He could feel the different energies within his body harmonizing like never before.

The alchemy apprentice's bonus to spiritual accumulation created a feedback loop with the wizard's increased spiritual growth rate, massively boosting meditation efficiency.

Meanwhile, the knight apprentice's physique enhancement provided a stable foundation for spellcasting, reducing disruptions from physical strain.

Robb stood and flexed his fingers.

"So this is the benefit of becoming an Apprentice Wizard…"

Even this simple motion made him feel the smooth flow of energy through his body. Each tiny muscle twitch stirred corresponding ripples of magic.

He suddenly remembered the booklet the attendant had given him. With everything happening tonight, he hadn't even cracked it open yet.

He pulled the thin booklet from his satchel. It looked plain and unremarkable—just a few dozen pages with the words "Elementary Apprentice Handbook" on the front.

But as he opened the first page, he immediately felt a faint magical fluctuation—an anti-forgery charm. Only genuine apprentices could read it.

He sat on the edge of the bed, reading by the dim moonlight and flickering magic lamp.

The first few pages covered standard academy regulations: no fighting in public, no unauthorized lab use, no entering restricted areas without approval—basic rules he already knew.

But then he reached a section that truly caught his interest:

Section Four: Apprentice Promotion & Ranking Rules

Any elementary apprentice who advances to intermediate apprentice within three years of qualification will automatically be designated as 'High Potential' and enter the Reserve Wizard Track.

Those on the Reserve Wizard Track are regarded as potential future wizards and will receive special resources and developmental opportunities…
