Fenrir stood at the entrance of his underground lab, watching the blinking notification from Fredric's latest message disappear from his screen.
[Fredric: Stay inside. Don't go anywhere until I say it's safe. We're handling it.]
Fredric's words were laced with worry and control. Typical.
Fenrir chuckled under his breath, slipping his phone into his pocket. The corners of his lips twitched upward as he ignored the message completely and stepped outside.
The artificial lighting in the lab gave way to the soft glow of the setting sun. He inhaled the cool air and started walking toward his house, hands shoved in his pockets.
"I already know who did it. But if I say anything, I'll just get dragged into another one of Fredric's containment plans."
He muttered to himself, amused.
It wasn't cowardice. It was strategy. The more he kept to himself, the freer he remained.
