In the biting cold, a young man with crimson hair and red eyes carried a sleeping girl through the snow-covered mountains. Tears welled in his eyes; a helpless gaze fixed on the path ahead as he desperately ran.
He had to save his sister, his only remaining family.
The icy air caused sharp pains in his lungs; breathing became difficult, but he couldn't stop. He had to hurry, get his sister down the mountain, find a doctor—otherwise, her severe injuries would kill her.
Having recently lost other family members, he couldn't bear losing his sister.
'Keep going! Move faster! The town is still far away; hurry! I won't let you die! I'll save you! I'll definitely save you!'
As he struggled forward, he didn't notice his sister had opened her eyes and grown four sharp fangs.
"Eaaaaaaaahhhh——!!"
His sister struggled violently on his back; he stumbled, and they both fell.
His name was Tanjiro Kamado, the eldest son of the Kamado family, charcoal sellers. His family included his mother, Kie, three younger brothers—Takeo, Shigeru, and Rokuta—and younger sister—Nezuko. Their father, Tanjuro Kamado, had passed away early, leaving Tanjiro to support the family by selling charcoal.
On their way home from selling charcoal, Tanjiro was asked by his grandfather, Saburo, who lived at the foot of the mountain, to stay at his house for the night because of "night ghosts," thus escaping death. Upon returning home, Tanjiro was shocked to find his mother and siblings murdered by demons, only his older sister, Nezuko Kamado, still showing signs of life.
The heavy snowfall had created a thick layer of snow, preventing him from being seriously injured in the fall. However, when he got up to look for his sister, he saw her with four fangs, glaring fiercely at him before lunging forward to bite him.
Demons—creatures that only appear at night, fear the light, and eat human flesh.
His sister had become a demon and wanted to eat him. Tanjiro didn't understand how this happened; he could only call out to his sister, hoping she'd regain consciousness and control herself.
"Don't be a demon! You must be strong! Fight! Fight!"
Perhaps feeling her brother's love, unable to abandon him, Nezuko regained consciousness.
However, Giyu Tomioka, a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, who had returned to visit his master, sensed a demonic presence and arrived, drawing his Nichirin sword to strike Nezuko.
Tanjiro quickly hugged his sister, rolling to safety, saving Nezuko.
Giyu Tomioka, seeing the young man protecting a demon, was puzzled.
"Why protect her?"
"My sister! She's my sister!"
"Is that your sister?"
Tanjiro felt the killing intent and tried to protect his sister, but an ordinary person couldn't compare to a highly trained Demon Slayer, especially a Hashira.
The moment he lunged, Nezuko was seized by Giyu Tomioka.
"Nezuko!"
"Don't move. My job is to slay demons; I will also behead your sister."
"Wait! Nezuko hasn't killed anyone! My house has a unique scent! The one who killed everyone was a different demon! It wasn't Nezuko! I don't know why she's like this… but!"
"Simple. Wounds contaminated with demon blood turn one into a demon; that's how man-eating demons increase."
"Nezuko would never eat people!"
"You were almost eaten just now."
"No! She still recognizes me! I won't let anyone hurt her! I'll turn Nezuko back into a human! I'll definitely cure her!"
"That's impossible."
"I'll find a way! Please don't kill her! I'll find the one who killed my family! I'll do everything! So! So—! Please stop—!"
Seeing the swordsman raise his sword towards his sister, Tanjiro could only kneel and beg.
It was the only option he could think of.
"Please don't kill my sister! I beg you."
As he knelt, his hands touched a strange object in the snow. But Tanjiro had no time for it; he only wanted to save his sister.
"State your wish."
A cold voice echoed in Tanjiro's mind.
Tanjiro instinctively replied, "Save my sister."
"What are you willing to sacrifice?"
"Anything! As long as you save my sister!"
"Contract established."
