The doorbell rang and Sophie threw it open quickly to see Warren standing there with a nervous look on his face.
He stepped in and she grabbed his collar roughly, locking lips with him.
He pulled her away breathlessly, the nervous look still on his face. "Did she take it?" he demanded with curiosity.
Sophie smirked mischievously, wondering why he was now interested in getting rid of her sister. All along, she was the only one enthusiastic about getting rid of Anna.
"She did," she replied, stepping away from him. She moved to the couch and slouched in with relief.
The drugging was done to ensure that the accident became too fatal for Anna to survive.
Everything was working as planned and all they were waiting for was the news of Anna's accident, which wasn't on the TV yet.
After the accident and her supposed death, her mother and she needed to make some preparations to get the company.
A dangerous smile played on her lips as she grabbed the glass of wine and took a sip.
"Anna caught us sleeping together," Warren muttered, looking guilty as he raked a hand through his hair.
But that was the least of Sophie's problems.
That had always been her plan A. Getting Anna to catch Warren and her in bed before having an accident was another plan. If she happened to be questioned about Anna's accident, sleeping with Warren would be her alibi.
At the end of the day, everyone would assume that Anna had an accident due to the rage she was feeling from the betrayal of her fiancé. No one would think it was murder.
If Warren became a suspect and went down with her, it wouldn't affect Sophie or her mother.
"How did you manage to get her to take it?" he finally settled beside her with curiosity written all over him.
Warren always acted like a coward.
She told him to tamper with her brakes, but he didn't have the balls to do so. She had to do it herself.
Sophie rolled her eyes at him and replied, "You know Anna has a knack for coffee. She can't resist my coffee."
He nodded in agreement. "What about the car brakes? Are you sure you did the right thing?"
She turned to face him squarely, slightly upset. "Who do you take me for, uhn? You think this is my first time?"
Horror filled his face immediately. "You mean you've done this before?" She nodded. "Successfully?"
"Yep," she replied proudly and turned away from him. She had no desire to discuss the details with him. "Anna will be dead already so calm your nerves. I'm just waiting for the news of her accident and death."
She hated Anna with passion and just couldn't wait to get the news of her death. Anna always acted like she deserved the best things in the world, while Sophie had to deal with whatever she didn't want.
Warren and she had a one-night stand three years ago and never saw each other anymore, until Father brought him home one day and introduced him to Anna. Warren turned out to be the son of Father's friend and he wanted Anna to marry him.
Warren ignored her like he didn't recognize who she was. But Sophie was relieved when Anna told her she didn't like him. Their plan was for Anna to ditch him after going on two dates if she didn't see any future with him.
Surprisingly, Anna told her just two days after she went out with Warren, that she was in love with him. Sophie was enraged.
She knew it was impossible to do anything about it then, to avoid arousing suspicion. All they had to do was get rid of the first obstacle, and now the second obstacle was Anna.
When Father died a year ago, they got to know Anna needed to be married to get the company. And now was the best time to finally get rid of Anna for ruining their lives by being Father's favorite child.
Perhaps Father should be blamed for making it so glaring to the eyes that Anna was his favorite.
Anna would never get the company. Not while Sophie was alive. Not when her mother was always there to support her.
Her phone rang and her mother's name flashed across the screen.
"Sophie?" her mother muttered from the other end. "Is Anna there?"
"She's gone," Sophie chuckled softly, enjoying the thrill of knowing she caused her death.
There was silence at the other end and she assumed her mother was getting up from a group of board members and going to her office.
"What happened? She isn't at work yet," her mother questioned, her voice a bit low.
"Well," Sophie stood up from where she was seated beside Warren and moved to the kitchen. "She caught Warren and I having sex this morning."
She was aware her mother knew about Warren and her, but she pretended not to have noticed anything. Warren and she had been having an affair behind Anna's back since Father died.
There was complete silence from the other end.
"You need to come home, Mom, so we can celebrate. Warren is here with me."
"What exactly did you do, Sophie? Was it according to the plan? And does Warren know what you have done?" her mother asked and Sophie nodded, raising a brow in confusion. She sounded surprised and Sophie didn't expect that. For a year, they had planned and replanned the exact way to get rid of Anna.
Today, the opportunity came up and she did it.
"Is everything okay, Mom?"
"Don't be stupid, Sophia. Because you are sleeping with him doesn't mean you need to trust him 100%. Cut him off your plans henceforth. What if he betrays you? What if he turns his back on you after getting his father's company?"
Sophie chuckled softly. "Mom, I trust Warren not to spill. He doesn't have the balls to betray me, he was…."
"Shut up! You're not as smart as I thought you were," her mother muttered through clenched teeth and Sophie shut her eyes. "I haven't seen her at work yet and there is no news yet, so stick to your TV and call me as soon as the accident is announced. We need to get to work, ASAP. Get rid of Warren now too. Let him leave."
She hung up the call instantly.
"Do you think she knows we are behind this?" Warren's voice jerked her back to life as she turned around to see him entering the kitchen.
She didn't want him to know her mother just asked her to get him to leave, so she flashed him a smile and shook her head. "Anna is too naive for that. She can't suspect her precious sister and definitely not you, her precious fiancé."
"But she's not stupid, Sophia. She caught us in the act and that speaks volumes of words." He disagreed and she thought about it for a while. He was right, but she was so sure Anna would never suspect her.
She might suspect him though. But that was none of her business.
Besides, Anna should be dead by now.
To shut him up, she moved closer and kissed him. When he wrapped a hand around her waist, she knew he wanted her so she bit his lower lip in a seductive manner.
He moaned and groaned at the same time.
"Anna is too much of a saint," he muttered in between her mouth.
She shut him up again.
She already knew what he wanted to talk about. Anna refused him sex, and that was how he fell prey to her pawns.
She was waiting for their wedding night.
The ringing sound of her phone made her pull away from him and he groaned at the interruption. She moved back to the counter to grab her phone. Her mother's name flashed across the screen again.
"What the hell have you done, Sophia?!" her mother barked at her.
Panic seized her chest at the tone. "What do you mean? What happened?"
Her mother's breathing was heavy and Sophie's heart skipped a beat at her silence. "Mom? What is this about?"
"Shit!" her mother cursed out loudly. Sophie heard the sound of something breaking and knew instantly that something was up.
"What happened, Mom?" she paced up and down with impatience.
"Did you do everything according to our plans?" her mother probed, her voice high-pitched.
"Is this about Anna?" Sophie stopped dead. "Yes, Mom. I did everything according to how we planned it, from the…"
"When you tampered with the brakes, did you check the CCTV before doing that?" her mother suddenly questioned, making panic and horror expand Sophie's chest.
She became confused for a moment before nodding again. "The camera didn't capture any of that, Mom. I made sure of it."
"What about when you spiked the coffee?"
"Same. I dealt with everything before the show," she explained to her, meaning there was no evidence.
The dashcam in Anna's car was destroyed beforehand. The coffee cup had been washed, and there were no traces of evidence to back up her claim even if someone suspected them.
Her mother's silence was killing her, and she was about to ask what the hell happened when her voice boomed again.
"Check the goddamn news!" she shouted before cutting the call. Curiosity got the better of Sophie as she raced out of the kitchen, pushing the curious Warren aside.
"Sophia!" Warren met up with her, grabbed her hand, and twirled her around to face him. "What happened?"
If any of this was about them being the suspect, they could easily blame it on Warren. She did it all because the idiot was too much of a coward to lift a hand and do something when he also wanted Anna out of the way.
Remembering that her mother asked her to check the news, she yanked her hand away and spun around, rushing into the living room.
She grabbed the remote and put on the television before clicking on the news channel to see the headlines splashed across the screen.
"Lorenzo's heiress married in court today."
Which of the Lorenzo?
She furrowed her brows in puzzlement.
Confusion clouded her mind as she continued staring at the screen until another one popped up, showing a picture of Anna in the same dress she wore that morning before heading to work. The same dress she had on when she caught Warren and Sophie having sex.
She gasped.
Anna Lorenzo shocks the world with her sudden marriage, thereby claiming full rights to the Lorenzo Groups of Companies…
"What?!" Warren's exclamation made reality dawn on her. "Anna is married?"
It was indeed Anna. Her sister. Not another Lorenzo. Not Delilah Lorenzo. Not Isabella Lorenzo. But Anna Lorenzo, her step-sister.
She stepped backward, the remote dropping to the floor from her hand. She clamped a hand over her mouth, still staring at the image of Anna on the TV, not only alive, but also showcasing her marriage certificate with a big smile on her face.
"No, no, no!" she shouted, moving forward to put the TV off when a wave of dizziness swept past her. "No!"
Warren rushed toward her but before he could grab her from falling, she fell to the ground, and darkness enveloped her immediately.
