Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: President Pei's Smile

Next up, Zhou Muyan took the stage.

This was the final part of today's experience-sharing session, where Zhou Muyan would give a brief introduction to the FPS game his team was currently developing.

This was also one of the crucial points in the schedule arranged by Assistant Xin.

Although the event was officially labeled as a mutual exchange of experiences, the difference in size between Tianhuo Studio and Tengda was obvious. Clearly, it was Tengda who should be learning from Tianhuo.

Since Tengda's current project, "Ocean Fortress," was also an FPS, learning advanced design concepts from Tianhuo Studio's FPS game would surely benefit their development!

Huang Sibo and the others listened intently, hoping to gain some insights from Zhou Muyan to bring back and further improve "Ocean Fortress."

Zhou Muyan stood on stage, calm, confident, and charismatic.

"The FPS game we're developing is called 'Bullet Hole.' Our goal is to surpass 'Counter-Terrorism Plan'!"

"For FPS games, the most critical aspect is the shooting experience. FPS players are notoriously hardcore! Through our research, we've found that most players of 'Counter-Terrorism Plan' willingly spend significant amounts of time practicing advanced aiming techniques like flick shots and quick scopes, even developing muscle memory through repeated daily practice."

"For these players, tiny details in gameplay directly influence whether or not they'll choose to stick with the game!"

"Therefore, 'Bullet Hole' faithfully recreates the shooting mechanics of 'Counter-Terrorism Plan' to the highest possible degree. We guarantee that our game's shooting mechanics will reach at least 90% similarity with 'Counter-Terrorism Plan.' Achieving such a level is notoriously difficult among domestic FPS games, yet we've successfully done it!"

"Additionally, we've meticulously polished our visual style. Every gun, uniform, and piece of gear is authentically replicated from real-world special forces units. We even hired military experts to review every detail, ensuring military enthusiasts can't find a single flaw!"

"Lastly, we plan to implement our proven monetization model from previous successful MMORPGs into 'Bullet Hole,' using a free-to-play plus paid-item structure to create unprecedented profitability for an FPS game!"

Listening to Zhou Muyan's presentation, Huang Sibo's expression suddenly darkened.

Oh no!

"Ocean Fortress" is going to fail miserably!

How come Zhou Muyan's design philosophy for "Bullet Hole" was the complete opposite of theirs?

"Bullet Hole" emphasized the experience of veteran, hardcore players, faithfully reproducing the mechanics of "Counter-Terrorism Plan," and featured authentically detailed firearms and uniforms—backed by real military experts!

Both games had chosen a free-to-play, item-based revenue model, but "Bullet Hole" could draw from Tianhuo's proven MMORPG monetization strategies, while "Ocean Fortress" had no successful reference points at all!

What did this mean?

It meant that among the loyal fans of "Counter-Terrorism Plan," "Bullet Hole" would obviously be the preferred choice!

Although "Counter-Terrorism Plan" was still popular today, it was an older game and wasn't strictly an online service game. Nowadays, many companies making FPS games aimed to create a genuine live-service experience and take away that game's players.

Imagine this scenario: a loyal fan of "Counter-Terrorism Plan" sees both "Bullet Hole" and "Ocean Fortress." Obviously, they'd pick "Bullet Hole"!

If the two games launched head-to-head, wouldn't "Ocean Fortress" be doomed from the start?

Huang Sibo felt increasingly uneasy as he listened, convinced that "Ocean Fortress" was headed for disaster!

What could they possibly do?

Instinctively, he glanced toward Pei Qian.

Surprisingly, President Pei wasn't worried at all—on the contrary, the smile on his face was growing wider and wider!

Why was that?

Huang Sibo was utterly confused. Why would President Pei seem genuinely pleased when the design philosophies of "Bullet Hole" and "Ocean Fortress" were so fundamentally opposed?

Could it be...

Huang Sibo suddenly understood.

President Pei's smile was full of quiet confidence!

Clearly, President Pei saw Bullet Hole as their biggest rival, and had specifically come to Tianhuo Studio to spy on it!

When he heard that Bullet Hole's approach was completely opposite to Ocean Fortress, President Pei's smile could only mean one thing: he was absolutely certain that Bullet Hole would fail, and Ocean Fortress would succeed. That's why he was smiling with such calm and confidence!

Huang Sibo couldn't help but admire President Pei's unfathomable wisdom—and his subtle cunning!

As for why exactly President Pei thought Bullet Hole would fail while Ocean Fortress would succeed...

Who could know for sure? President Pei's perspective was beyond ordinary comprehension.

Apparently, President Pei's understanding of game design far exceeded even Zhou Muyan's—no wonder he wore such a contented smile!

Realizing this, Huang Sibo felt as if a great burden had been lifted from his shoulders. All his previous anxiety vanished completely.

With President Pei being so confident, Ocean Fortress would surely succeed!

...

Meanwhile, Pei Qian was inwardly delighted as he listened to Zhou Muyan's presentation.

As expected, great minds think alike!

According to Zhou Muyan's philosophy, Ocean Fortress was guaranteed to flop spectacularly!

Moreover, with Bullet Hole and Ocean Fortress launching head-to-head, the end result was obvious: Ocean Fortress would be completely crushed.

Tianhuo Studio had ample talent, abundant funding, and superior quality in graphics, gameplay, and marketing—every advantage imaginable to outclass Tengda.

With such a formidable competitor like Bullet Hole, Ocean Fortress was definitely doomed to lose money!

Thus, Pei Qian couldn't help but smile with genuine relief. After all his anxiety and dread, he could finally relax.

This time, the loss was assured!

Soon, Zhou Muyan wrapped up his talk.

Pei Qian shook hands with Zhou Muyan, exchanging pleasantries once again.

"It was truly enlightening—I learned so much. Thank you," Pei Qian said sincerely.

Zhou Muyan quickly replied modestly, "Oh, you flatter me. President Pei, you're exceptionally talented and accomplished at such a young age—I truly envy you."

After a brief exchange, they entered the free activity segment. Everyone was free to wander around Tianhuo Studio and chat casually for a while.

Afterward, Pei Qian and his group prepared to leave.

"President Pei, I have some other matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave now. Sun Xi, please take good care of President Pei," Zhou Muyan instructed carefully before departing.

Pei Qian and the others went to the coffee shop inside Tianhuo Studio, each ordering a drink and planning to leave after resting briefly.

At this moment, a girl who had been quietly attending the meeting approached Pei Qian eagerly.

"Hello, President Pei! My name is Lin Wan. May I borrow a few minutes of your time to ask a few questions?" she asked, her eyes shining with anticipation.

Pei Qian was momentarily stunned.

He carefully looked over this girl named Lin Wan.

She was quite pretty, with clear, delicate features. She wasn't wearing makeup, but her fair complexion had a slight pink blush, making her look naturally charming.

"Sure," Pei Qian nodded.

Lin Wan carefully considered her words, then asked: "President Pei, is the primary goal of making games to make money?"

Pei Qian froze slightly.

Why did she start with such a profound question?

Was the primary goal of making games to make money?

For other people, perhaps. But for me... the main purpose was definitely to lose money...

Of course, he couldn't actually say that out loud.

Pei Qian cleared his throat and answered solemnly, "Certainly not. I believe the primary purpose of making games is to bring joy to players."

Lin Wan's eyes immediately lit up.

This was exactly the answer she was hoping for!
