Chapter 9 - Succession Part 1

1.

Ferry and Blade stood with the rest of the girls in Nyandeni. They surrounded a small fire, over it cooked bits of goat meat Ferry had kept. He snarled at it sizzled. He looked to the girls. They were docile… slow… waiting but it had been hours.

Ferry looked up and saw Blade glaring, he smirked.

"We should go back." Blade grumbled, his voice was deep and low, heavy with base.

The rest of the group looked up; some glances moved to Ferry. The turnover had begun. As big as he was. He'd never been a leader of men.

"No, she's dead." Ferry as firmly as he could without shouting.

"What makes you say that?" Blade demanded.

"It's been too long; you saw that monster. I fought it. You enjoy mating with her so much it clouds your mind. That thing killed her."

"You don't know that!"

His anger rising dramatically, but so was Ferry's.

"I know she hasn't returned. We can't risk it. Not with that thing still alive! We have a mission to meet with the Black Air Raiders in less than fifteen days."

"Damn you! She's the one who brokered the deal. How are you going to meet the Black Air Raider leader? You don't even know his name!" Blade bellowed.

"I don't need to know. We go, we talk to the only people with wings. We see them, we get our money." Ferry yelled.

"There's few of us as it is. We cannot afford to lose anyone." Blade said moving closer to Ferry.

Ferry was ready to pounce at any moment. Blade was a giant by Inqindi standards, but Ferry had never lost a fight, and never would.

"Especially since I brought you together" Fury growled.

Ferry's shoulders dropped, shutting his eyes, hoping it was just a dream, but Blade passed him, slamming his shoulder. He growled but stopped. They were ecstatic passing as if he were nothing more than a rock in a river.

He turned and gaped.

She was not only carrying all their bags, that but a slab of meat thirty times the size of the goat he'd kept.
