The little wolf-eared child sniffed Nina's hand with exaggerated caution, his wet nose twitching as he examined her scent.
Before she could react, he clutched her fingers with surprising strength and yanked her arm closer to his face.
"Hey—whoa, slow down. You're a little too strong for me, kid."
Nina said, wincing as the pup squeezed tightly.

Nina opened her mouth to respond, but the child suddenly bared his tiny teeth and tried to sink them into her wrist.
The attempt was clumsy—more like a puppy teething than an actual attack—but he gnawed at her arm with determination.
