After repairing several hundred core formations of varying levels, Huo Yuhao finally felt the toll on his spiritual and soul power. He put away the Blade of Creation and Destruction and left the workshop.
He didn't deactivate the Eye of Creation and Destruction. While he had yet to unlock many of the sealed sources of life and destruction, the third eye had little unique use for now—but with it active, it helped accelerate the recovery of his spiritual power.
'It's not too late… I should go check on Senior Sister Meng.'
With that thought, Huo Yuhao's mood brightened, and he made his way toward Jing Hongchen's residence.
The trip from Mingde Hall to the residence on campus was easy—just one elevator ride and a hundred or so meters on foot.
Huo Yuhao was already familiar with the way. When the security guard at the gate saw him, he immediately greeted him respectfully and opened the gate.
Entering the lobby on the first floor, Huo Yuhao found Xiao Hongchen lazily fiddling with a soul tool on the sofa.
"Senior Xiao, what are you up to?"
"Oh, Yuhao! I was just checking out this new firearm-type soul tool you developed. Pretty interesting, I gotta say."
The soul tool Xiao Hongchen held was a pistol Huo Yuhao had fashioned after the sealed milk bottle was perfected—essentially a firearm based on Earth's handguns, the kind even ordinary people could use. It looked like an Obrez-style weapon from the WWI era.
"You like it, Senior?"
Xiao Hongchen nodded, skillfully chambering the weapon and cocking the unique bolt of the rifle-turned-handgun before pulling the trigger. The bullet shot out, but using his metal control ability, Xiao Hongchen deftly caught the round midair, returning it to his hand like some kind of Magneto.
"Cool," Huo Yuhao commented.
Xiao Hongchen grinned smugly.
Seeing how much he liked it, Huo Yuhao pulled out another Obrez from his storage soul tool—this one inscribed with a skin design from one of his favorite FPS games back in his previous life—and tossed it to him.
Xiao Hongchen caught it, marveling at the elegant and ornate engravings.
"Nice, huh? It's yours."
"Thanks."
"Say, Senior Xiao, why do you like these firearm-type soul tools I casually made? I mean, their firepower isn't nearly on par with soul ray weapons, right?"
Xiao Hongchen holstered the engraved pistol at his waist and thought for a moment before replying.
"Well, to be honest… these guns have a certain metallic beauty that I really enjoy. And I like the feeling of pulling a trigger and firing a bullet. The physical feedback is way more satisfying than a soulless beam. Sure, regular iron or copper bullets won't do much, but special rounds? Those could be game-changers in real combat."
He added, "Plus, compared to other soul tools, these are simpler and more suitable for arming regular folks."
Huo Yuhao nodded thoughtfully.
"I see… By the way, how's Senior Sister Meng doing lately?"
He used to visit Meng Hongchen frequently during her deep meditation. But with all the work on Mingde Hall's reconstruction, he hadn't had the time recently.
Xiao Hongchen shrugged. "Still the same. She's been meditating for months. Honestly, I'm starting to worry that she'll surpass me when she wakes up. But if you're worried, go check on her."
Huo Yuhao smiled slightly and headed for the stairs.
As he watched Huo Yuhao's back, Xiao Hongchen's expression grew complicated. More and more, he felt like his little sister would soon be swept away by this guy. It left him with a mixed bag of feelings.
Still, after seeing how much Huo Yuhao cared for Meng during these months, Xiao Hongchen was slowly coming around to the idea of him being a potential brother-in-law.
He sighed and shook his head, choosing not to dwell on it. Instead, he eagerly continued tinkering with the Obrez Huo Yuhao had given him. The more he looked at it, the more he liked it.
"This brother-in—cough, cough… What brother-in-law…"
Meanwhile, Huo Yuhao arrived at the door of Meng Hongchen's bedroom on the second floor.
She had entered deep meditation during a nighttime cultivation session and hadn't had time to move to the designated training room.
Pushing the door open gently, Huo Yuhao stepped inside and saw Meng Hongchen sitting calmly on the bed, eyes closed in deep concentration. Streams of red and blue light—representing the fire and ice attributes of her Vermilion Clear Ice Toad martial soul—occasionally flickered around her.
Looking at her serene, delicate face, Huo Yuhao found himself dazed for a moment. His cheeks flushed faintly, and although no one else was around, he instinctively looked away.
Her room reflected a mixture of a refined noble lady and girlish charm, perfectly fitting her dual-natured martial soul of fire and ice.
When he spotted the grilled-fish plushie he had gifted her resting on her bed, Huo Yuhao couldn't help but chuckle softly.
After admiring the room for a bit, he turned back to watch her meditate.
He began chatting softly to her, even though she couldn't respond—sharing recent happenings while quietly observing her condition.
But as he watched, his brows gradually knit into a frown.
'Why does her fire-type aura feel like it's becoming unstable?'
At that moment, a pained expression crossed Meng Hongchen's face.
"…Mmm…"
A soft moan escaped her lips.
Alarmed, Huo Yuhao immediately used his spiritual power to investigate her condition—and was shocked by what he found.
Her internal soul power was cycling through her meridians in a wildly irregular pattern, constantly shifting between blue and red. With each transition, a trace of deep blue icy toxin seeped from the meridians into her flesh.
No wonder she looked like she was in pain. Huo Yuhao knew just how deadly that kind of cold toxin could be.
Fortunately, it didn't seem life-threatening at the moment. But this level of instability could escalate very quickly.
Inside his spiritual sea, Xue Di had naturally noticed what was happening. She frowned and said,
"Yuhao, this human girl… her martial soul—is it the Vermilion Clear Ice Toad?"
Huo Yuhao nodded without hesitation. He didn't know what was causing this or how to handle it—but Xue Di, who had seen countless rare soul beasts in the Extreme North, surely had some insight into this unique species.
