At the same time, Nana didn't stay idle.
Two yellow, two purple, and one black soul ring appeared around her. In a flash, she charged toward the First Saint, who was still trapped in the gray pillar of light, writhing in agony. A fiery red glow erupted from her body—it was a short blade, just about 1.2 feet long. The hilt was hidden in her grasp, and the blade itself was unusually broad for its size.
Unlike most short blades designed for agility, Nana's weapon was palm-wide and thick, with intricate patterns carved into its crimson-red surface. It pulsed with a fiery aura, its blade light surging to over two feet long like a flame ready to devour everything in its path.
The moment the blade appeared, the surrounding air turned scorching hot. Nana's already slightly ethereal body became even more ghostlike as the blade's heat shimmered through the air.
With a flash, the short blade transformed into a blazing crimson arc. The glowing blade light extended to nearly three meters in an instant. In that moment, Nana vanished completely into the flare, becoming one with her weapon as she charged straight at the First Saint. The fan-shaped slash that cut through the air resembled the rising sun. In terms of speed, power, elemental strength, and soul tool amplification, this was the peak of a Grade 5 Soul Engineer's assault.
With a thunderous boom, the crimson blade light came crashing down, aiming straight for the First Saint's head.
The First Saint's expression changed drastically. In pain from Tang Si's soul-purifying undead magic, he forced his damaged soul to regain control of his body and tried desperately to dodge.
But he was too late.
The flaming blade slashed down and severed his left arm clean from his body. The pain shocked the First Saint back to clarity. With a leap, he escaped from the pillar of purification, creating distance between himself and Tang Si and Nana.
Nana retreated quickly, falling back behind Tang Si with regret. As a Soul King, if not for Tang Si's terrifying control ability, she would never have found such a perfect opportunity to strike. After all, her opponent was a Soul Emperor-level evil soul master.
Clutching his severed shoulder, the First Saint's face twisted in pain and fear. Who is this terrifying man? Is he really an evil soul master too? His methods of attacking the soul were beyond anything the First Saint had ever heard of. Although the technique felt eerily similar to those used by the Holy Spirit Cult, there was something completely different about Tang Si.
At this point, the First Saint dared not hold anything back.
"You'll all die here!"
All six of his soul rings ignited at once, and white flames erupted from his entire body.
Within those white flames, countless anguished faces could be seen screaming in torment. Just then, a side door exploded open, and a terrifying surge of energy burst from within.
Transparent lights of various colors, each bearing a distorted human face, poured from the small door in a rushing tide.
Clutching a black flag, the First Saint sneered at Tang Si and Nana.
"Taste the wrath of the Soul-Devouring Banner. Your souls will be torn to shreds, and your bodies will become my puppets. Die!"
"Hmph. Soul-Devouring Banner, is it? Nothing more than a vile tool that imprisons pathetic spirits. A disgrace to true necromancy."
Tang Si snorted coldly and gestured for Nana to retreat. At her level, she couldn't stand up to such a malicious object.
There were many spirits—perhaps four or five hundred—but nowhere near the ten thousand claimed in legends. Each one was weak and lacked substance. Compared to the powerful vengeful spirits of the Soul-Devouring Banner once described by Electus, these were laughable. They couldn't even break through Tang Si's mental defenses.
Even as the ghostly faces shrieked and lunged toward him, Tang Si remained calm. He had already obliterated the Second Saint's soul—these pitiful spirits were nothing in comparison.
"Be purified, foulness of the soul."
Tang Si's voice rang coldly. A circle of pure white light erupted from his Eye of Destiny.
On Huo Yuhao's side, his boundless spiritual world surged like a tidal wave. Triggered by the incantation, a flood of spiritual power swept forth, transforming into a pure and sacred force of purification.
Wherever the white halo passed, the blood glow around the spirits vanished. Their frenzied flight halted. Each spirit froze in midair, unmoving.
The white light expanded, spreading into every corner of the underground chamber, before it finally faded. The once-ferocious spirits were now all glowing white.
When the light touched the First Saint, he let out a wretched scream. Black smoke billowed from his body.
The First Saint shrieked in horror.
"This… this is the power to destroy souls. Who… who are you?! This power belongs only to the Holy Emperor! You… you're an evil soul master too, aren't you? Then why… why would you…"
As the First Saint staggered under Huo Yuhao's control, frozen and unable to resist, Nana wasted no time. She moved like lightning, merging into her ghostly Martial Soul form and becoming a blur. In a flash, she crossed the space to the First Saint and decapitated him cleanly. Then, just as swiftly, she returned to her original position.
Tang Si watched the First Saint's head fall, his face frozen in disbelief forevermore. At the same time, a pale white spirit emerged from the severed head, attempting to flee in panic.
But Tang Si would never let that happen.
With a simple motion of his hand, he grasped toward the fleeing soul. The First Saint's spirit was instantly pulled into Huo Yuhao's grasp.
The undead force in Tang Si's hand drained what little remained of the First Saint's consciousness. His soul, now reduced to a whisper of instinct, stared at Huo Yuhao with lifeless eyes.
"Holy Son? Are you… the Holy Son come at last? You must seek out the Holy Emperor… He will lead us to rule the world. Only those with holy power like us deserve to inherit everything in this world…"
Tang Si smiled faintly. Watching the miserable fragment of a soul speak its last delusion, he slowly clenched his hand. Under the power of undead purification, the First Saint's spirit was completely wiped from existence.
Behind him, Nana stood frozen in awe.
So this… this is my master's true strength?
Although she had assisted him, destroying two Soul Emperor-level evil soul masters this effortlessly was far beyond what she had ever imagined.
Perhaps… when Tang Si claimed he had once been the Ruler of Death… he hadn't been joking.
To him, even powerful evil soul masters of the same rank were nothing more than paper.
