Stella always knew that the old man didn't like her, so the baby in her belly was her biggest hope. She wanted to have a son, thinking that the old man might treat her better for the sake of a great-grandson. But, she ended up having a daughter.
Hyland Riley understood the unease in Stella's heart. He gently touched her face, "Grandpa is old and set in his ways. Give it some time, and he'll come around. The child is ours. If he doesn't like it, then he doesn't have to be around. As long as we love her, that's what matters."
Stella's cries during childbirth had been so heart-wrenching that Hyland felt nothing but tenderness for her, and any past disagreements between them seemed to vanish.
"By the way, it was Sylvia Byrne who saved you this time. I was thinking we should thank her."
Stella's face immediately turned cold at this. "No way. That woman clearly has bad intentions. You have no idea how mean she was to me."
