After the explosion, the canyon fell into brief silence.
The next moment, wails came intermittently from deep within the ruins.
"Save... save... urgh..."
"My leg... ahhhhh!!!"
"Don't go near that black fog! Cough, cough cough..."
Voices carried heart-rending terror, drifting in the thick smoke, echoing in the empty valley.
The air was permeated with the smell of burning, blood, and a stench like sulfur mixed with rotting flesh.
Some knights had armor corroded with holes, stuck with blood and flesh, unable even to scream, only opening their mouths to spit foam and blood.
Some rolled on the ground, desperately trying to crawl up, half their bodies charred black, half frostbitten, skin peeling off in chunks, revealing bleeding muscle and bone-white skeleton beneath.
A war wolf had half its body blown apart, intestines dragging in the snow, yet still twitching unconsciously, claws scrabbling randomly, seemingly still searching for its already burned master.
