Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Vows Written in Blood

Location: Abandoned Chapel – Rain Still Falling

Selina's face went white.

Not pale.Not stunned.

Blank.

As if her brain refused to compute what her ears just heard.

"Sister?"

She took a step back. Her lips parted—but no sound came out.

The man standing before her had her eyes. Her mother's jawline. Her grandfather's cold silence.

And Eclipse... didn't deny it.

He stood still, eyes cast downward, as if ashamed to even witness the truth unravel.

Selina's hand slowly reached up to her chest, fingers shaking, clutching the chain that held the ring he gave her.

It wasn't just betrayal.

It was the death of her origin story.

She had spent her life believing she was abandoned by her mother, hated by her father, orphaned by fate. But the truth was worse.

She had a brother.

And everyone around her knew—except her.

Even him.

The man she almost forgave. The man she almost loved again.

He knew.

And still… he kissed her.

It was like waking up to find your heartbeat was never yours—just a borrowed rhythm someone else played to keep you obedient.

Like realizing the family portrait you hated had been photoshopped, and the real one had a stranger's smile behind your shoulder the whole time.

Selina turned to Eclipse slowly. Her voice low, venomous.

"Tell me this isn't true."

He looked up.

Wet hair plastered to his forehead.Eyes rimmed red.

And yet—he didn't speak.

He only nodded.

Selina's hands trembled, but she didn't slap him. She didn't scream.

She did something worse.

She took off the ring.

"You lied with every touch."

She dropped it into the mud.

"And I was stupid enough to believe broken men could love cleanly."

He didn't stop her.

Because how could he?

There was no redemption from this. Not when he'd stolen her truth and then kissed her with it still on his tongue.

What he did wasn't a mistake.

It was premeditated betrayal.

Because sometimes, protecting someone meant choosing to be the villain in their eyes—hoping one day, they'd understand.

But Selina?

She wasn't ready to understand.

She was ready to burn.

From the shadows, her "brother" spoke again.

"Tell her the rest, Eclipse.""Tell her what's in the marriage contract."

Selina froze.

"…What?"

The man pulled a folded document from his coat and tossed it toward her.

Rain soaked it instantly.

But the words were still visible.

"Clause 7: In the event of a child born of this union, inheritance will transfer fully to—"

"Stop!" Eclipse barked, finally moving.

But it was too late.

Selina had read it.

And Ethan's name was there.

Written in ink.Signed in blood.
