Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Help them put to rest

"You… you're—"

"Uchiha Chiyu?!"

The man standing before them was infamous throughout all of Konoha, and the Anbu—who frequently dealt with the Police Force—knew him all too well. Yet now…

The two Anbu guarding the detention facility stared at Chiyu in horror. His presence was far more terrifying than usual, like a bloodthirsty beast with crimson eyes, rather than a human being.

One of the guards stammered,

"Even if you are Uchiha Chiyu, you can't just barge into the Anbu detention center! Y-you've been suspended by the Hokage, so you're no longer even with the Police Force. Don't think you can—"

He trailed off, glancing at his comrade as if to signal him to alert Anbu HQ.

Yet at this moment, Chiyu—remembering Yamakaze's severed arm, Aoki fighting for his life in the hospital, and Clan Head Fugaku bearing the blame in isolation—felt only blazing anger in his heart, even if his face seemed calm. Inside, he was seething with righteous indignation.

"I'll say this only once."

"Step aside."

"Anyone who stands in my way—dies."

The two Anbu looked outraged.

"Uchiha Chiyu! Don't be so arrogant! Not only are you currently under suspicion yourself, but even if you were still a squad captain in the Police Force, you have no right to enter the Anbu prison without permission. Are you trying to start a rebellion?!"

Before he finished speaking—

Slash!

A sudden flicker of steel, a flash of deadly light.

The atmosphere seemed to distort with the surge of chakra, like a violent gust of wind.

"Wha—?"

Neither guard had any time to react. They felt a sudden, ice-cold prick at their throats, and then they were unable to make a single sound.

Thump! Thump!

Two bodies collapsed, limp and lifeless, on the threshold of the Anbu jail.

Ding!

Chiyu ignored the system's prompt.

The instant the two bodies hit the ground, he streaked inside, dashing into the Anbu's detention center.

It was a sunless hell—a place of ominous oppression, darkness, despair, like some creature lurking within, devouring all light and hope.

But Chiyu paid no attention, racing ahead like lightning. Suddenly, the entire facility was thrown into chaos.

"Who goes there?!"

"How dare you storm into the Anbu prison!"

"Th-those eyes…?"

Chiyu's chakra flared violently, and his pair of Sharingan snapped open with a blood-red gleam.

Humm!

The three tomoe whirled like a tri-bladed windmill, reflecting endless killing intent.

"It's—it's Uchiha Chiyu!"

"Hurry, inform the captain!"

"Damn it, he's actually charging into the Anbu jail alone?! He's insane!"

"Kill him!"

All at once, some seven or eight Anbu rushed at Chiyu from every side. While not top elites, they each possessed their own lethal specialty.

Instantly, a barrage of projectiles—kunai, shuriken, senbon, poison needles—bombarded Chiyu from all directions, accompanied by a flood of ninjutsu. Flames, water, lightning, blades of wind, even earth dragons—all hurtled his way with deadly force.

Any shinobi, no matter how strong, would be hard-pressed to shrug off such a terrifying onslaught. But as the attacks closed in, Chiyu's three tomoe spun. Blood-red pupils radiated a piercing clarity. In that split second…

He wove effortlessly through the hail of weapons, martial arts strikes, and jutsu, emerging unscathed—like a white-hot streak of lightning, while that crimson glow of his eyes trailed behind, slicing through the air in a fleeting red arc.

"What?!"

Chiyu ignored the melee of Anbu assailing him. He moved with a single conviction—

He lunged in and snatched an Anbu officer by the throat.

Crack.

"Show me the way."

He recognized this individual as one of the leaders in the detention facility. Immediately, the other Anbu hesitated to act, fearful of harming their comrade. They followed step by step, keeping Chiyu surrounded.

Sweating profusely, that squad leader's heart pounded wildly. Knowing Uchiha Chiyu's merciless reputation, he was terrified. Another captor might only be bluffing, but this man…

Uchiha Chiyu would kill without hesitation.

Unable to resist, the Anbu leader quivered under Chiyu's iron grasp and extended a trembling hand toward the prison's depths. He knew precisely whom Chiyu sought.

"Move."

Chiyu barked a low command, and the Anbu leader obediently headed deeper into the complex. The deeper they went, the more it felt like a furnace of despair—a labyrinth of rot and hopelessness. Cries and rants echoed from the vile criminals locked here, but beyond lay silence, an oppressive emptiness devoid even of screams.

Chiyu, unmoved, pressed on relentlessly until he drew near his target.

"S-she's over there…" the Anbu leader stammered.

In the murky depths of the jail, like a pit of hell, a pair of eyes rose to meet Chiyu's. They shone with cold, merciless light, clashing with the Sharingan's glare. This woman from Kirigakure, rumored to hail from the Bloody Mist, radiated an aura of carnage and death. Even facing the lethal presence of Uchiha Chiyu, she showed no obvious fear.

"Ah, the Sharingan…"

"So beautiful… and so terrifying…"

Chiyu held his blade to the captive Anbu leader's throat. A sharp edge bit into flesh, blood oozing instantly.

"I ask—you answer."

Shaking head to toe, the man knew his life hung by a thread. Facing Chiyu, he had no thought to resist. His head nodded frantically, but the slight movement only dug the blade deeper.

Chiyu's tone was frigid. "Who else conspired to frame my two subordinates, besides this woman?"

"I…"

Shlk!

He hesitated, and the blade cut deeper into his skin.

"I'll talk! This—this came from higher-ups! We…we just follow orders…"

Chiyu gave a caustic laugh. "So you're part of it, too. This is quite convenient."

It all made sense: staging a fake release, having the 'spy' coordinate with certain Anbu. It couldn't be done without those in charge of the jail.

"Who else?"

Trembling, the leader pointed at several in the surrounding group. "H-him, him… and him. There are seven in total, including me. But we only obeyed orders from above…"

Slash!

With a dull thud, Chiyu swung his sword. The man's head toppled free, rolling across the frigid jail floor.

Ding!

Every other Anbu stood aghast, horror in their eyes. Then came a roar of wrath, like beasts driven wild. They flung themselves at Chiyu from all sides.

The Kirigakure spy felt a chill seize her heart.

This man was more fearsome a devil than any she'd known in the Bloody Mist. For the first time… she sensed genuine terror.
