Chapter 22 - Blood-Stained Streets, Fiery Embrace

After that, no one lingered for nostalgic farewells.

They exited the school gates without hesitation, stepping into the world beyond with a sense of relief—

At least, that's what they thought.

But the reality waiting for them outside was far worse than what they had faced inside.

The world was no longer a familiar place—it had become a living hell.

Their school, once nestled peacefully among city buildings and broad roads, was now surrounded by chaos.

Vehicles were crashed and overturned, bloodstains covered the asphalt, sidewalks, even the grass.

A faint metallic stench lingered in the air.

Though no one had witnessed the massacre firsthand, it was clear what had happened here.

Screams of agony.

People being torn apart by monsters.

The silence that followed was even more terrifying.

Some students wept quietly.

Others clenched their fists, filled with dread.

But the scariest were those who stayed silent—

Eyes burning with fury, filled with the kind of hatred that only came from deep pain.

---

Zhao Feng sighed.

His gaze swept across the ruined street, melancholic, but he didn't look back.

"Let's go. We need food, shelter, and rest."

Everyone followed him without question, eyes scanning the surroundings vigilantly.

Soon, they reached a nearby minimart.

Its glass windows were shattered, the walls scratched and dented from blunt force.

Inside, dry blood stained the floor and walls.

The smell of rot hung heavy in the air.

But no one flinched—they were getting used to it.

Fortunately, many of the supplies were still intact.

Zhao Feng gave out clear instructions.

"Move the food somewhere secure. Use the shelves to block the doors and broken windows.

Cover any openings with cloth or paper. Don't let any light escape."

"Yes, Captain!"

The team moved quickly.

They didn't just obey because of Zhao Feng's strength—

They respected him.

Back when they were ambushed by two packs of wolves, it was Zhao Feng who stood alone to block one side.

He had nearly died holding them off.

And even now, the wound from the alpha's sneak attack hadn't fully healed.

To the others, he wasn't just a classmate. He was a leader. A savior.

---

Meanwhile, Xiao Yuyan and Ning Yue approached him with worried expressions.

"Are you hurt?" Xiao Yuyan asked softly.

Zhao Feng gave a faint smile.

"I'm fine. Don't worry."

But Ning Yue frowned.

"You coughed up blood earlier. Let me check."

Her tone was sharp—like a professional doctor's.

If people didn't know her usual personality, they'd be fooled by her serious demeanor.

Zhao Feng and Xiao Yuyan exchanged a glance, both eyeing Ning Yue with a teasing look.

Her face flushed red with embarrassment.

"H-Hey! Stop that!"

---

Later, in a quiet room.

Zhao Feng lay on the bed while Ning Yue examined him seriously.

Meanwhile, he and Xiao Yuyan discussed their next move.

"Zhao Feng, where do we go from here?"

He paused for a moment before answering.

Then, suddenly, he grabbed a naughty hand that had snuck under his shirt and squeezed hard.

"Owwww—! That hurts!" Ning Yue yelped.

Zhao Feng didn't even flinch.

"I'm going to find my mom. She's still trapped at her office."

Xiao Yuyan looked worried.

"When will you leave?"

"Tomorrow," Zhao Feng replied.

She bit her lip, hesitating to speak, but Zhao Feng cut her off.

"I'm going alone. It's too dangerous.

If I bring the team, I'll just slow down."

The room went quiet.

Both girls lowered their heads.

Sensing the heavy mood, Zhao Feng sighed and smiled.

"Hey, come on. Don't be so gloomy.

I'm not abandoning you or anything.

It'll just be a quick trip."

But Xiao Yuyan didn't let go.

"Can't I go with you?" she asked, wrapping her arms around his arm tightly.

Her body pressed against him, and her sweet scent made his heart race.

Not to be outdone, Ning Yue climbed onto the bed and leaned against him from the other side.

He was now sandwiched between two warm, soft bodies.

Zhao Feng held his breath. His mind tried to stay calm—but temptation was overwhelming.

Ning Yue looked up with moist, sparkling eyes.

"Zhao Feng... Let us stay with you tonight. Before you leave."

Xiao Yuyan whispered softly into his ear, blushing but bold.

"Think of it... as a send-off from the two of us."

Their lips landed on his cheeks—first one, then the other.

Then slowly, they moved down to his neck and collarbone.

Zhao Feng's breathing quickened.

His hands found their waists, pulling them closer.

Soft moans echoed as they kissed—slow, deep, and filled with burning emotion.

The room was filled with heat, passion, and unspoken feelings.

In a world that had fallen apart, only one thing remained real—

Each other.

---

By morning, they had reached an agreement.

Zhao Feng would take both girls with him to rescue his mother.

---

After experiencing a shamelessly hot afternoon together, the three of them emerged from the room.

Zhao Feng supported Ning Yue, who was walking strangely and slightly limping.

This drew the attention of one of Yan Qinran's female subordinates.

"Doctor Ning Yue, are you hurt? Why are you limping?"

Ning Yue's face turned red instantly.

So did Xiao Yuyan's.

Still, Ning Yue tried to maintain her image.

"I-I twisted my ankle... while walking."

"Oh~ I see!" the girl replied innocently, not questioning further.

Thank you for reading! If you're enjoying the story, please leave a comment so I know you're a real reader and not a bot 😂

Also, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

to be honest, I probably won't be able to continue this novel. that's because English is not my mother tongue. and that's also because I have a little hope for a webnovel contract but after I found out, it turns out that webnovel prohibits the use of AI translators without re-editing. yeah, I'm a little confused so I decided that the possibility of continuing this novel is slim or even stopping because of that. and focus on making my new novel that is more mature and I like it. so yeah, bye bye, thank you for reading my novel...
