"Who do you want to leave me for, Dapper?!" Ruth bellowed, suddenly charging toward him.
Dapper instinctively braced himself, expecting a punch–but instead, Ruth threw her arms around him, her momentum nearly knocking him off balance.
"Idiot! Why do you want to leave me?" she cried, burying her face into his chest.
"I'm sorry—"
"Why would you think I want a divorce, stupid husband?!" Ruth interrupted in a small, trembling voice, pounding her fists gently on his chest in quick succession. The hits were soft, carrying more emotion than pain.
When she finally looked up at him, Dapper saw her face flushed red, tears streaming freely down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry. I thought—"
Before he could finish, Ruth silenced him by pressing her lips to his in a fierce, emotional kiss.
'What is this? This... this isn't something I ever imagined. After all that, she still likes me?'
Breaking the kiss, Ruth looked him straight in the eyes.
