Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

"I don't know what kind of bullshit you're spouting about." I looked away, annoyed.

Caleb narrowed his eyes, his playful grin unwavering. "You're so stubborn, Gab..." he said, shaking his head as he leaned back in his chair.

"I know that you perfectly understand what I'm talking about."

I clicked my tongue at his comment and glared at him.

"So what? What kind of shit are you planning to stir up now?" I asked, my tone sharp and intimidating.

He chuckled in response.

"My, don't be like that. You say that as if I'm some kind of villain. I just wanna be a part of it... that student council campaign, that is." He smiled.

I paused.

He wants to be part of it...? In other words, he wants to run for the student council? Is that what he's trying to say...?

"A student council campaign...?" Aviel turned her head toward us, her interest clearly piqued.

"Now that I think about it, it's almost time for the campaign since the previous leaders have already graduated." she added.

"It's a hundred percent pain in the neck, but I have no choice but to follow through since it was none other than my Grandpa who suggested it." I said as I crossed my arms and let out a sigh.

"The Headmaster huh..? There are still a lot of members we need to recruit, right...? How about you let us in too? We may not be as smart as you and Lucas, but I'm sure we'll be useful." Caleb smiled, that smile he always uses whenever he desires something. And when he wants something, he does whatever it takes to get it.

"Whatever, I guess I can... If that's what you fools want."

I grunted and looked away, resting my chin on my palm. They high-fived after my response.

I twirled my pasta with a fork. "It's already gone cold" I mumbled.

After lunch at the cafeteria, Aviel and Caleb went to the faculty office to talk to Grandpa about joining the campaign. I was now walking alone toward our classroom.

Maybe taking this shortcut was a bad idea after all, it's much more longer than the regular hallway I take towards the classroom, and I have utterly no idea what these rooms are even used for.

Strum.

The sound of a guitar echoed down the hallway, coming from the room beside me. Curious, I peeked through the slight gap of the partially open door, and Inside, is a male student with light lavender wavy hair, fading to black at the ends, was playing a guitar while humming some songs. The room was filled with instruments, this must be the music room, though it's not in use until in the midterms. He wasn't wearing his uniform properly, his waistcoat was , his collar was unbuttoned, and even his tie was loose.

Is he perhaps a delinquent? and rather he looked a bit familiar to me. I leaned forward slightly to get a better look at his face but accidentally pushed the door too much. It caused to creak loudly.

The student snapped his head toward the door and called out with a wary tone,

"Who's there?!"

Startled, I panicked and ran down the hallway as fast as I could.

Why the heck was I staring at him anyway...?

I covered my mouth with my hands, confused. I've totally gone insane from all the stress of dealing with Lucas's stubborn ass earlier. I returned back to the cafeteria and took the regular hallway towards our classroom. As I walked, I saw our first period after lunch teacher coming out of the printing room, carrying a thick stack of freshly printed papers at least 32 pages thick. She smiled at me as our eyes met.

Then it hit me. That kind of thickness that isn't suited for reports and that sly smile on her face before she went inside..

She's definitely giving us a surprise quiz later. I smiled in anticipation and clenched my fist. I'll beat him this time with this quiz!. I then immediately rushed back to the classroom with a huge grin on my face.

When the first period after lunch started, my hunch was right. The teacher began handing out the 50 items quiz sheets as soon as she got inside. I picked up my pen and started answering fast. One thing unique about this teacher is that her quizzes are tough. Mind twisting. A real challenge. But for me? It's another piece of cake.

I scoffed confidently and, within ten minutes, I was done.

I stood and walked to the front to hand in my paper.

"Ten minutes haven't even passed, and you're already finished?" she said, surprised.

"Yes, ma'am." I smiled back.

As I turned to return to my seat, I caught Lucas's eye. I shot him a mocking glare but instead of reacting, he winked at me with that idiotic smile on his face. I was instantly annoyed. That idiotic bastard. Don't get too cocky about what happened last night, it doesn't mean we've gotten a bit close at all. I cleched my fist trying to control my anger.

The results now came out. Me, Lucas, and Sevastyan all got perfect scores. I slumped in my chair, feeling defeated despite the result. Klaus patted my back to comfort me. Normally, I'd hate that kind of gesture but I was too mentally tired to brush him off and just zoned out.

I had the upper hand! I knew there'd be a quiz and I still couldn't beat him! Even though we both scored perfect, it still felt like I lost. Again.

I gnawed on my thumb nail in frustration. Our eyes met again and then... another wink but this time it seemed like a wink of satisfaction. I almost blacked out with rage.

That ridiculous wink!

I pulled my hand away from my mouth. Trying to control my urge to gnaw at my nails any longer. Old habits do die hard.

Tap. Tap.

Someone tapped my shoulder. I turned, raising an eyebrow. "What...?" I asked with an annoyed tone.

My eyes widened. Who would've thought that it was none other than the student from the music room. No wonder he looked familiar. I thought he was only familiar due to me seeing him in the classroom beside us, but to think he's actually my classmate and more he's sitting right behind me.

Did he perhaps see me earlier? Is that why he's talking to me...? To confront me about it. I frowned.

"Pardon me," He said, leaning in to whisper. I gulped, bracing myself.

"Can you please teach me how to solve this part?" He pointed at a math problem in his notebook.

I mentally sighed in relief. This one's from our math class this morning, did he not understand how the teacher explained it.

I sighed and nodded and turned to explain to him step by step. Once he understood, he smiled brightly like a kid with his dimples showing. A whisker dimple. Despite his delinquent like appearance it looks like his personality is more childlike. I glanced at the nameplate on his chest. Asnee Devakul.

What kind of name is that?

"My name is Asnee Devakul." he said, noticing me staring.

"But you can just call me Benjamin that's my English name." He said placing his palms together with fingers pointing up and slightly bowed his head.

"I'm Lee Gabriel." I said, bowing slightly in return.

"Are you perhaps Thai?"

"Yes, I am." He smiled nodding in response. "No wonder that greeting gesture you did was familiar." I said in surprise. "Is there anything you want me to teach..?" I asked and he shake his head. "No that's all thank you." He smiled. "No problem." I replied before looking away.

Klaus nudged me at my arm asking about what happened. "He just asked me to teach him about the problem in math." I replied. "Is that so." Klaus said glancing at Benjamin at my back with a curious look.
