My heart pounded so hard I worried the sound might give me away. The healer was here—now—and I wasn't prepared. If he discovered my deception, everything would fall apart.
"When did he arrive?" I whispered to Elina, my hands trembling slightly.
"Just moments ago, Luna. Alpha Kaelen summoned him after your... episode at breakfast." Elina's eyes reflected my own fear.
I nodded, smoothing my dress and taking a deep breath. "Show him in."
Elina opened the door wider, and an older man with salt-and-pepper hair and kind eyes stepped inside. He carried a worn leather bag that looked as old as he was.
"Luna Seraphina," he said with a small bow. "I'm Healer Marcus. May I examine you?"
I forced a wobbly smile. "Of course."
The healer looked at my maids. "I'll need privacy for this examination."
Lyra and Elina glanced at me hesitantly. I gave them a small nod, though inside I was screaming for them to stay.
