Kara stepped slowly into the containment chamber, her boots echoing on the cold metal floor. The sight of Kyra—alive, barely restrained, and yet radiating with some strange, simmering energy—tied a knot in her stomach. She looked nothing like the fragile girl from the old photos. This was someone reborn… or reconstructed.
"Kyra," Kara breathed. "It's me. I'm your sister."
Kyra tilted her head, her silvered eyes flickering with a thousand buried memories. "Sister… that word used to mean something," she murmured, voice tinged with pain and venom. "But now? You and I—we're opposite ends of the same nightmare."
Behind her, Adrian, Ronan, and Tessa filed in, tense, weapons lowered but ready. The air around Kyra seemed to pulse, alive with something unnatural.
"We're here to take you out of this," Kara said softly. "To get you away from Vane."
Kyra laughed—a sharp, broken sound. "Get me out? Kara… I am what Vane made me. You think you're here to save me, but it's too late."

Buried Memories
Tessa scanned the room's systems while Ronan stood guard near the exit. "Something's wrong. Power levels are spiking… and this room—it's wired like a trap."
Adrian took a step toward Kara. "We need to move. Now."
But Kara didn't budge. "Kyra, please. Don't let them control you."
A flicker of pain crossed Kyra's face. "You think I let them?" she snapped. "They tore me apart piece by piece until I didn't know who I was anymore. They filled my mind with commands, burned out the parts that screamed, and rebuilt me with silence."
Kara's voice trembled. "You're still in there. You're not just a weapon."
Kyra's jaw clenched. "Then prove it."
She raised her hand, and the lights flickered violently. A surge of power exploded from her palm, blasting a console behind Kara into shards of sparks and smoke. Tessa dove for cover while Ronan grabbed Kara and pulled her back.
Adrian shouted, "She's been activated! The failsafe—Vane's triggered it!"

Choices in the Fire
Kara stared at her sister, heart pounding. "Then I'll stop him. But I won't fight you."
Kyra's eyes glistened for a split second, a war raging inside her. Her hands trembled, glowing red with heat.
Then—BOOM.
A section of the chamber wall exploded, revealing a new corridor beyond. Dozens of synthetic soldiers—Lazarus Units—rushed in with glowing visors and weapons drawn.
Kyra's expression shifted in an instant. "Go," she whispered, turning toward the soldiers. "I'll hold them."
Kara froze. "But—"
"I said GO!" Kyra roared, unleashing a blazing arc of energy at the first wave of units.
Adrian grabbed Kara's arm. "We can't waste this chance."
Torn between staying and escaping, Kara let herself be pulled away, her eyes locked on Kyra until the corridor swallowed her from view.

Running from the Ashes
They bolted down the escape path, dodging debris and security systems springing to life. Ronan covered their rear as Tessa rerouted the facility doors ahead.
Alarms wailed. Walls shook. Somewhere behind them, Kyra was still fighting alone.
Adrian's jaw clenched as he led the way. "Vane wanted this. He wanted to pit you two against each other."
Kara's voice cracked. "And maybe he still will. But not today."

Elsewhere…
In the Lazarus Command Chamber, Dr. Elias Vane stood watching the chaos unfold on multiple monitors. Beside him stood a shadowed figure—taller, face obscured by a metal mask.
"She's resisting," Vane muttered. "Interesting."
The figure turned to him. "Then we activate Phase Omega."
"No," Vane said slowly, a cruel smile growing. "Let her burn first. Let her believe she has a choice. That's the sweetest illusion."
