The mass of energy I landed on dissipated. I fell the remaining few feet down onto the ground and took in my strange new surroundings.
I was in a cave you would think it would be dark because it was so deep underground. But there were crystals on the walls, floor, and roof of the cave off red and yellow light. I could feel a strange energy in the air, and I heard a buzzing in my ear. I only saw two ways to go: up or forward down a path.
"Hello mother, are you there?" I heard no response. Not knowing what else to do I started heading forward down the path.
Calling it a path was rather generous of me. It was a way forward. It had many boulders in the way and cracks in the ground that I had to jump over. as I continued forward, I started to hear whispers.
At first, I couldn't understand what the whispers were saying, So I just continued to walk on. I kept walking and walking until my feet were throbbing from pain. After walking for what felt like eternity, the whisperer started to make sense.
They were saying, "Are you sure you want to come here?" eventually I shouted back to them, no I don't want to be here. My mother threw me down a hole. I want to go home!"
After I said that there was a flash of a blinding red and yellow light, and the voices stopped. once the light died down before me, I saw a red and yellow orb floating right in front of me.
"So you are not here by your own Will?" "No I didn't even know this place existed. I don't even know what's going on! What the heck are you?"
The glowing orb laughed at me. "How about we start with telling you about about your families legacy as you humans call it." "What are you talking about? What legacy my mother and father just sell Remedies to the little village down the mountain and pass the forest."
"Oh yes, you still believe that don't you? You always were the type to follow them blindly. Inlike your brothers who had already started clue that that's not what they did. Well, at least it wasn't what your father did."
I paused for a moment, thinking about what he just said very carefully, "What do you mean what they did aren't they still doing it right now? And and what do you mean it wasn't what my father did is it because he's away serving as his medical support for the war?"
The orb side at me, "You sweet, naïve child you have no idea what's happening or what they've done or what they are."
"What the hell is happening!?!" I shouted, and then I quickly realized what I had just said. " Sorry I didn't realize, I didn't mean to I… I." "You didn't mean to use a bad word. It's perfectly fine. I've heard far worse and before the end of our time together, I'm sure you'll say far worse as well."
I was about to refute what he had just said, but before I could he cut me off. "Anyways why don't I start at the beginning?" after he said that the orb which was him turned into a large rectangle large sheet of light, and then on the sheet images started to form.
"A long, long time ago, before civilization of mankind started to take route. a woman came across this mountain. She became the first of the Lighten family." I stared at the scene playing out before me. There was a woman with Extremely blonde hair and very pale skin walking up to the entrance of the cave where mother and I had just spent. " she found us spirits in this cave and commune with us, unlike all those before her who had tried to do so she was successful. Due to this, we gave her the last name Lighten, for we wish for her to share our light with the world."
I then saw the same woman go past the pit where I fell and place her hand on a wall and be surrounded in light. " you see what she did differently she walked past the pit. Where all those before her had jumped in like you. Not a single soul has been able to survive in here." at his words, I got scared. " why is that?"
"It's because none of them had the potential to hold the full front of our power and commune with us that fully none of them had the wheel or the reason to survive the strain of it so they all perished."
I started pondering to myself if I thought I had the things needed to survive this. " I wouldn't bother worrying about whether or not you can survive little one. You're already in here it's out of anyone's hands so even if you can't, there's no worrying over it because there's nothing you can do now. I'm deeply sorry your mother did this to you. It's the madness."
I took a deep breath to steady myself and gave myself a moment to take him what he was saying. My mother and father were lying to us. My father did not sell remedies, but my mother did. The reason why my mother threw me into this pit was because of something called the madness. And the very first lighten who I presume I'm related to commune with the spirits in this mountain.
With all these facts that came to a conclusion. " so my father could commune with the spirits and since you're referring to him and past tense… he's dead isn't he? He never went to war." I started crying when I came to this conclusion.
You're not one hundred percent right, but you're not one hundred percent wrong either. He did go off to war, and that is where he died. He was forced into the war because of his connection to the spirits. Unlike before him, he was not the chosen of his generation. he was not meant to have this power, but due to reasons he ended up with it that alone meant he was incredibly weak compared to every other lighten to carry this legacy." The Voice or whatever would you want to call him paused for a second so I could take him what he was saying. The emperor basically sent him to die so he could be a martyr to this war. The Emperor knew very well he wouldn't survive, but it was unheard of for a Lighten to not wheeled and strength and help the empire so he was left with no choice, but to send him to war to die."
"But that's wrong my father never signed up for the military. My father never wanted to go to war he was forced into this. He shouldn't have had to fight, especially if they knew he was going to die like that."
"Everything you just said is true but it's still happened because that's the way the world works." " if that's the way, the world works then I want to change the way the world works. This isn't right just because it's the way things are doesn't mean it's the way it should be!"
"Oh wise words, but talk will change nothing. Only actions will, so are you willing to try to make it out of here ,change the way things are, and continue on your family's legacy?"
