Several days had passed since the meeting. Way had been training relentlessly, pushing himself harder with each passing day. Part of it was to impress Babe but deeper down, it was all to prove to Mr. Pete that he was worthy of being the main racer.
The following evening, as Way arrived at Xhunter, he immediately spotted Babe and Alan standing near the entrance. Babe's hand was bandaged, still recovering from a recent crash and Alan stood beside him, unusually silent.
They looked pretty serious.
A strange weight settled in Way's chest. Something felt off. He could sense that something bad was coming, but he pushed the feeling aside.
Trying to act casual, he walked past them. Though his eyes betrayed him, sneaking a glance at Babe from the corner.
Suddenly, a veiny hand slipped around his waist from the front, halting him in his tracks. He stiffened as he blushed a bit.
He looked down only to see Babe's hand the flush spread quickly, blooming across his face.
For a moment, none of them spoke. Then Babe finally broke the silence, glancing at Alan before turning his eyes back to Way.
𝘽𝙖𝙗𝙚 : I - uh, Way… remember the contract I made with you? The one where you'd take my place in the upcoming race?
𝙒𝙖𝙮 : Hmm, Yeah… I remember. Why?
𝘽𝙖𝙗𝙚 : I… I have to cancel it. I'll be giving the spot to Charlie instead.
𝙒𝙖𝙮 : "What? Babe, how could you?! Charlie's barely got any experience! I wouldn't mind if you gave it to someone else from the company but…Why him? Wasn't he just a one-night stand?"
𝘽𝙖𝙗𝙚 : Way… Charlie and I… we're boyfriends now.
