Chapter 28: Sasuke Becomes a Disciple

After cleaning all night, Naruto finally collapsed from exhaustion just before dawn.

In a daze, he had a strange dream.

In the dream, he was surrounded by his father, mother, and senior Kaien. But suddenly, they all transformed into giant bowls of Ichiraku ramen.

Naruto reached forward, trying to grab them.

"Ouch!"

He fell out of bed.

Rubbing his sleepy eyes, Naruto slowly got up to wash his face. In his blurry vision, he spotted a figure standing in his house.

"Waaah!"

Naruto screamed.

But once his vision cleared, he saw that the person standing there was the Third Hokage.

"Grandpa Third Hokage?! Why are you here?"

The Third Hokage smiled kindly.

"Naruto, I came to check on you. I heard you made a new friend yesterday?"

"Hehe, of course! We're friends now!" Naruto grinned.

"You're talking about Kaien-senpai, right? He's one of Sasuke's clan members! So please let me hang out with Sasuke more!"

"He's as kind as you, Grandpa Third Hokage. He took me to Ichiraku Ramen and even had Sasuke buy me a bunch of clothes!"

The Third Hokage chuckled, listening patiently as Naruto excitedly shared his story.

"So, what did your Kaien-senpai say to you?" he asked gently.

"Oh! He told me to get along with Sasuke and not to act naughty!" Naruto said, then suddenly remembered something.

"Grandpa, come look!"

He pulled out the clothes Sasuke had picked for him the day before and held them up.

"Do they look good?"

"Yeah, they look great," the Third Hokage nodded warmly.

Relieved that Kaien hadn't said anything critical to Naruto, the Third Hokage chatted with him for a while longer. Then he pulled out a pouch and handed Naruto 5,000 Ryō.

"Naruto, you're growing up. You'll start school tomorrow, so be sure to listen to your teachers. This money is for your living expenses."

Naruto took the money with a confused look.

"Why are you giving me so much, Grandpa Hokage?"

The Third Hokage smiled.

"Once you start at the Ninja Academy, you'll need to buy tools and other things. Just don't waste it, alright?"

Naruto was touched.

"Thank you, Grandpa Hokage. I'll repay you when I grow up!"

"Haha, I'll remember that. Be sure to report to the Academy early tomorrow. I have to get going now."

"Okay! Hehe!"

Life suddenly felt full of hope, and Naruto couldn't help but grin.

Uchiha Clan Grounds

"Offer tea to your master."

Sasuke wasn't quite sure how to feel about becoming a disciple, but he didn't dislike Kaien. So, under his father Fugaku's urging, he officially became Kaien's disciple today.

Originally, Fugaku had planned a formal ceremony with some guests, but Kaien, who disliked such traditions, refused.

"Just a cup of tea is enough to make it official," Kaien said.

"How much Sasuke learns depends entirely on him."

After Kaien drank the tea, Fugaku left.

Though the Uchiha no longer had to worry about the guard team, their land was in ruins. Fugaku spent most of his time managing the rebuilding process. But more importantly, he was secretly gathering business talent to support the clan's future growth.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for greatly changing Uchiha Sasuke's fate!]

[Reward obtained: Amenotejikara ×1]

Amenotejikara?

Kaien raised an eyebrow.

That's the eye technique Sasuke used during the Boruto era after awakening the Rinnegan. A one-time use, huh?

He grumbled a bit—still waiting for the system to unlock more features.

After Fugaku left, Sasuke and Kaien stood facing each other.

"Master, what will you teach me today?"

Kaien scratched his head. Honestly, he hadn't thought that far ahead. He figured the basics would be covered in the Academy soon anyway.

Still, he could give Sasuke special treatment, helping him grow faster—and maybe fix his habit of acting cool.

Kaien cleared his throat.

"Sasuke, since you now call me Master, I'll officially begin your training."

"Yes, Master!" Sasuke straightened up with determination.

"No need to be so stiff," Kaien said, waving his hand.

"I don't like formalities. Just treat me like a friend."

"Okay… Master." Sasuke relaxed a little.

"Alright, let's do a test," Kaien said.

"Please test me however you like, Master. I'm strong!" Sasuke said confidently.

Kaien led him to the empty courtyard.

"Attack me with everything you've got—shuriken, kunai, ninjutsu, anything. Fight me like you want to kill me."

Sasuke had expected a test, so he'd already brought his ninja tool bag.

"Here I come, Master!"

He crouched down, drew his shuriken, and got into position.

He threw two shuriken with precision.

Kaien didn't move. When the shuriken flew near, he tilted his head, letting them pass harmlessly.

Seeing that didn't work, Sasuke rushed in with a series of swift attacks.

Kaien blocked all of it effortlessly with one hand.

Uchiha's taijutsu, often called the Uchiha interceptor, was known for its redirection and coordination—made even deadlier when combined with the Sharingan.

But right now, Sasuke was too young, lacked physical strength, and his eyes hadn't awakened. To Kaien, it looked more like schoolyard gymnastics than combat.

Kaien suddenly punched Sasuke in the stomach.

Sasuke froze, staggered back a few steps, then fell to his knees and spat out a mouthful of saliva.

"You're still far from ready, Sasuke," Kaien said casually.

That only fueled Sasuke's determination. He quickly formed hand seals:

Tiger → Boar → Monkey → Horse → Dog → Tiger

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

Sasuke puffed his chest, releasing a large stream of fire.

Everything before him turned crimson from the flames.

This was a jutsu his father had praised… but Kaien was already gone.

Before Sasuke could finish his technique, Kaien appeared behind him and struck his neck with a precise chop.

"Kuh!"

Sasuke choked mid-fireball and nearly coughed himself to death.

It took him a while to recover.

Kaien stood calmly, arms crossed.

"M-Master..."

Sasuke looked unsure, nervous about what Kaien thought of him.

Kaien decided to be firm.

His face turned cold.

"That was a complete mess, Sasuke. Is this what you learned before? Did Itachi teach you this—playing ninja games?"

"Who told you to use Fire Style like that? Were you trying to put on a fireworks show?"

"I'm sorry, Master..."

Sasuke lowered his head, ashamed.

He hadn't expected to win—but he had hoped to impress his teacher, at least a little.

"Do you know where you went wrong?" Kaien asked.

Sasuke opened his mouth but then lowered his head again.
