"Final turn?" Even Thunder Dragonlord, who was acting as referee, couldn't help but voice his doubt.
It was an obvious fact.
"Final turn? You have only one card in hand. You already used your Fusion card to save your teammate, and even the Fusion Materials in your Graveyard were recycled by your partner."
Kujakujaku grew more incredulous as he went on.
"Not only that, even your ace monster, Gem-Knight Prismaura, was returned to Atticus's Extra Deck. What can you possibly do now?" Hundred Dragon added.
"And you can't even draw a card!"
Faced with these one-sided facts, Hikaru showed no fear.
"Does it matter?"
"It doesn't matter!?" both guardians shouted. Kujakujaku flared his feathers. "If you could end the Duel this turn, then why didn't you do it last turn?! No Fusion in your hand can turn this field around!"
A group of Spirits clustered around Hikaru, echoing, "Yeah, yeah!"
"Too naive!"
"Fusion has no limits!"
"If senpai entrusted this key moment to me, then we will win!"
Hikaru shouted, "If it's Fusion, even this field is more than enough!"
'No, no, no—' a chorus of Spirits shook their heads.
That has nothing to do with Fusion!
Suddenly, Tierra noticed a sneaky little golden orb. She raised a hand and snapped her fingers. The great demon beneath Hikaru shifted slightly, causing him to lean just a bit.
The thunder orb, seeing its chance, zipped forward and slammed into Hikaru.
"Koyuan!?"
Several elder Spirits spotted it. That playful, curious Spirit who had long gone unnoticed, one of the oldest, and one most likely to "grow" was now hurtling toward Hikaru with all its might.
The golden thunderball struck him. Hikaru's eyes shot down, meeting the glow of lightning in his Deck.
Thunder Dragonlord slowly raised his head.
A Fusionist pursuing the ultimate?
Maybe he was the one they'd all been waiting for to change the world.
"I activate my Set card!"
Electricity surged in Hikaru's eyes. "Normal Spell!"
"Pot of Greed!"
"Pot of Greed!?"
"What?! Pot of Greed?!"
"No way, he was right!"
The card Atticus had set, one recognized by countless duelists, was indeed Pot of Greed!
"A card that lets you draw two for free, that human didn't use it on his turn but saved it for his teammate!?"
"If he draws anything useful, it's a guaranteed win!"
The guardians' eyes widened.
They never imagined.
That this was what Atticus had left behind!
Frankly, Hikaru hadn't expected it either. Even so, it happened!
It was his first time playing Pot of Greed in this world. Back home, it was forbidden, but here, a card banned for being too powerful could actually be used! He was thrilled!
Like a TCG player getting to activate Maxx "C" in Master Duel for the first time—bliss!
"Pot of Greed's effect: draw two cards!"
He yanked two cards from the Deck, glanced down, and froze.
The lightning-charged card wasn't it Thunder Dragonmatrix?
'Could it be?' He side-eyed toward Tierra, who tilted her head as if she hadn't done a thing. He sighed, gazed again at the card, and the cheering image on it.
He understood what had happened.
It had chosen to follow him beyond The Mountain.
"Alright, then I activate the effect of Thunder Dragon Fusion in the Graveyard!"
"Banish this card that wasn't sent to the Graveyard this turn to add 1 Thunder monster from the Deck to hand!
I add Thunder Dragon from the Deck!"
He grabbed Thunder Dragon from his Deck.
Then revealed a card in hand, "Next, I Normal Summon, Thunder Dragonmatrix!"
A small golden orb of lightning materialized on Hikaru's field. Spirits around him gasped.
"Koyuan!?"
"Why are you over there?!"
Several elder Spirits looked flustered.
"No need to panic," Thunder Dragonlord rumbled across the skies. "It has made its choice."
"Then, I discard Thunder Dragon from my hand to activate its effect: add up to two more Thunder Dragons from the Deck to hand!
"I add the other two Thunder Dragons to hand!"
"Next, Spell Card, Polymerization!"
The purest form of Fusion!
"He's using classic Polymerization?!"
"Going for Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon?" Hundred Dragon flapped his wings. "But even Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon can't defeat us this turn."
After all, its ATK is 2800, while Dark Simorgh has 2700. And they still had 2000 LP.
Hikaru didn't seem to care. He pressed on.
"I fuse two Thunder Dragons from my hand!"
"Fusion Materials: two Thunder Dragons!"
"Fusion Summon!"
"Level 7, Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon!"
The classic double-headed dragon, crackling with lightning, stormed onto Hikaru's field.
[Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon] Level 7│LIGHT│Thunder│2800 ATK
"Still not enough, right?" Kujakujaku shook his head and raised his claw. "You'd be better off keeping Koyuan in hand to boost your Thunder monsters."
"Yeah," Hundred Dragon exhaled.
Hikaru looked at the Re-Fusion in his hand, and didn't activate it. Instead, he pointed to the field:
"It's time!"
"Let everyone witness the moment of Fusion evolution!"
"Huh?"
"He hasn't fused anything yet?!"
"And how would Koyuan and Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon even fuse?!"
Before they could react, Thunder Dragonmatrix crackled with light.
The orb shifted, grew, its serpentine form expanding, swelling.
Suddenly, with a crack, the orb split open. A small thunder dragon emerged, then grew and darkened.
Crackling lightning erupted!
Wings unfurled!
A thunder dragon, unlike any they'd seen, took form!
"Wh-What is that?!"
"K-Koyuan evolved?!"
"If a Thunder monster's effect is activated in the hand, and you tribute a Thunder monster other than a Fusion Monster on your field, you can Special Summon this from the Extra Deck!
"Bear witness! The birth of a new Fusion!"
"This is a step beyond Fusion!"
"Descend between heaven and earth!"
"Thunder Dragon Colossus!"
The tiny black dragon let out a proud, if babyish, cry.
Though now a Fusion Monster with a fierce form, it remained adorably small.
[Thunder Dragon Colossus] Level 8│DARK│Thunder│2600 ATK
"Koyuan evolved," Hundred Dragon stared blankly.
"A completely new Thunder Dragon?!" Kujakujaku's beak nearly dropped.
A brand-new Monster born from the bond between Duelists in a Tag Duel!
"Battle!"
"Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, Attack Dark Simorgh!"
[Guardians of the Mountain, LP: 2000 → 1900]
"Next!"
"Thunder Dragon Colossus's direct attack!"
The little black dragon flew up to the two older brothers, spat lightning at them. Though it didn't hurt, they exaggerated their reactions and cried out dramatically, falling backward.
[Guardians of the Mountain, LP: 1900 → 0]
"Victory—the human Duelist!" Thunder Dragonlord raised his head, releasing a burst of lightning that surged across The Mountain, forming lightning patterns in the sky like celebratory fireworks.
'A spectacular Duel indeed!'
