Ren sat in the inner chamber of the AI lab, lights dim, the only illumination coming from the holographic projection hovering above the reinforced control terminal. Lucia's interface pulsed softly with data streams cascading like rivers down glass.
"Protocol Hunter is ready for deployment," Lucia intoned.
Ren didn't blink. His eyes were sharp, mechanical almost, like a machine engineered by rage and purpose.
"Set the triggers," he said. "Passive surveillance, full behavioral pattern scan on Naruse and Saki. I want to know where they are, what they eat, who they talk to, and what passwords they use."
"Confirmed. Facial recognition online. Audio markers synced. Behavioral anomalies will trigger immediate alerts."
Lucia's voice dropped a decibel.
"Would you like me to activate counter-infiltration measures in the city grid?"
Ren hesitated. Then:
"No. Not yet. That'll tip them off. For now, we watch. We record. We learn."
Meanwhile: Aoi's Office
Aoi sat at her desk trying to focus on her marketing report, but her hands trembled slightly. Her mind kept replaying the moment Naruse had cornered her, the cold look in his eyes, and the way the necklace had lit up—Ren's nanotech barrier shielding her.
She had told no one, not even her closest colleague. But she felt everyone's eyes lingering longer these days. The whispers in the break room weren't about her beauty anymore.
They were about her mysterious fiancé—the one who drove an M5, who built tech no one understood, who never came to company events… and yet, somehow, always seemed to know when she was in danger.
Elsewhere: Saki's Apartment
Saki stared at the digital whiteboard on her wall. It was filled with complex diagrams—Ren's AI system, Lucia's projected flight path, schematics of the underground foundation of his lab.
Her fingers trembled as she traced a line from Ren's lab to an isolated server farm near the outskirts of Tokyo.
"Your Achilles heel," she whispered. "You can't hide that from me, Ren."
On her table sat a burner laptop, its screen blinking with a hacked entry route.
Saki typed one word: Infiltrate.
Naruse's Office – Midnight
Naruse lit a cigar, pacing in front of a wall-sized screen showing the AI lab's exterior.
"Send in the decoys," he said to a man in a gray suit behind him.
"But they'll trigger surveillance—"
"Good," Naruse interrupted. "Let him see. Let him think he's safe."
He smiled darkly. "Because the real play… will come from within."
Back at the Lab
Ren stared at Lucia's console as the Hunter Protocol displayed a real-time map.
Two red blips. One labeled "Saki". The other "Naruse".
He leaned back in his chair, calm but intense.
"It begins," he muttered. "Lucia, prepare the stealth drone fleet. We're going to turn the predators… into the prey."
