"Damnit what the hell is this stuff made of?!" Electro shouted as he brought his hands together and fired a concentrated beam of lightning at the golden wall blocking their way forward.
For a moment the storm drain was awash in the yellow light of Electro's electricity as the air crackled and popped from the violent demonstration of power. Cutting off the stream of electricity after a few seconds the group of villains looked back to find not a single scorch mark left on the strange material.
"I knew we should have brought the horned idiot," The Vulture muttered as he glared at the unyielding wall, "Why did we send off our hardest hitter?"
"Because he wouldn't have even fit in the pipe, to begin with," Kraven pointed out the obvious as he gestured around at their claustrophobic surroundings, "Besides I could only tolerate his stupidity for so long before I would start preparing a space for him on my mantel."
"Both valid points, which is why we went with this course of action," Mysterio's voice echoed out from his glass orb helmet, "Now let us focus on the task at hand, we need to break in before Spiderwoman arrives otherwise we're only making things harder for ourselves."
"That feat may prove to be more of a challenge than we can handle," Dr. Octopus muttered as he made his way to the front of the group and pressed his hand against the golden wall, "I've never encountered a material like this, if I could collect a sample and analyze it back at my lair-"
Before Dr. Octopus could finish his proposal the wall rippled as it suddenly receded disappearing into the golden veins covering the pipe's interior.
"What did you do Otto!?" Electro asked accusatory as he raised his fists that sparked with electricity.
"Nothing," Dr. Octopus hissed back as he stared through the other end of the storm drain, "It seems for some reason we're being invited in."
The Vulture cackled as he took a step forward, "Fools! They must have a death wish!"
Before he could exit the drain however Kraven held out his hand blocking the Vulture's way, "Why would they do such a thing, it makes no sense...unless it was a trap."
"What trap?! It's just a bunch of nutjobs hiding out in a subway tunnel! I'd say we barge in there and finish the job!" Electro implored as the air around him started to spark with arcs of yellow electricity.
Mysterio held up his hands as he stepped forward joining, "While I would normally be one to advise caution I don't believe we have much of a choice, with her new suit Spiderwoman is almost next to unstoppable, and it's only a matter of time before she sees to it that each of us is put away for good."
"Then it's decided," Kraven muttered as he pulled out a large hunting knife, "It's time to hunt."
A second later the storm drain exploded as the group of villains poured out flaring their powers, eager to unleash mayhem. However, as they stepped foot into the field of purple grass the alien scenery made them pause.
"What the hell is this place?" Electro muttered as he looked around the strange mix of gold and purple.
"This is Sanctuary."
A calm but equally forceful voice answered and the villains looked over to find a single man walking toward them through the grass, dressed in nothing but a plain robe, "It is a place free from corruption, a haven for the Children of Genesis, one that you have violated with your heretical intrusion."
Electro scoffed as he lowered his hands clearly not intimidated, "Like I said, a bunch of nutjobs, can't believe the big guy thought he needed all of us to finish the job."
"Are you referring to the Kingpin?" The robed man asked as he stopped a few feet away from the notorious group undaunted, "If you are truly employed by the greatest source of corruption within this vile city you are beyond saving...I wonder how many souls could have been spared from his taint and given the chance to step into the cleansing light."
"Why are we listening to this deranged fool?" The vulture snarled as he spread his wings and levitated into the air, "Say your final prayers, for I'm afraid this is your last sermon!"
With a flap of his wings, the Vulture shot toward the unarmed man at such speeds that he flattened the grass beneath him.
"I am no fool," The man spoke in a clipped tone as he held out his hand and liquid gold began to spill forth from his skin, "I am Gideon, the First Child of Genesis."
"Good, to know...I'll have it engraved on your tombstone!" The vulture screeched as he swung one of his wings sending a hail of razor-sharp feathers raining down on Gideon.
The liquid gold in Gideon's hand hardened turning into a warped spear with an uneven shaft and a hooked blade at the end. The golden weapon then turned into a blur as with one hand Gideon spun the polearm at frightening speeds as he batted the feathers aside sending sparks flying.
Vulture snarled, seeing his opening salvo being so easily dealt with and so he entered a dive folding in his wings and aiming toward Gideon, "Die!!"
"I cannot die for I walk within Genesis' light," Gideon replied calmly as he bent his knees and jumped. There was a whoosh of air as Gideon shot up into the air appearing as little more than a white flash.
The Vulture barely had a moment to blink before he felt a piercing pain in his gut. Looking down the Vulture stared at the massive hooked blade buried in his stomach and felt his entire body go numb.
"Your corruption shall be no more," Gideon whispered before he twisted his blade and ripped it out to the side.
A second later Gideon landed back on the ground in a crouch and stood as blood poured from the sky. The rest of the villains then watched as Vulture's disemboweled corpse landed in the grass behind Gideon with a thud.
With a flick of his blade, Gideon cleaned the blood staining the golden metal as he stared at the remaining heretics, "Now...who shall I cleanse next."
Electro snorted as he stepped forward and brought his hands together, "Oh yeah, cleanse this."
A solid pillar of electricity shot forward from Electro's hands with a clap of thunder so loud it produced a shockwave in the enclosed space. Staring undaunted at the attack Gideon grabbed his hooked staff with both hands and started to spin it in front of him. In the blink of an eye a gale picked up around Gideon as his weapon transformed into a solid disc from the speed of his movements.
The beam of crackling electricity slammed into Gideon, but instead of vaporizing the man with untold voltage, the beam splintered shooting off into countless rays as it deflected on contact with Gideon's spinning staff.
"Just who the hell is this guy!" Electro swore his jaw clenching as he poured even more electricity into the attack, "All of you stop standing around with your thumbs up your asses and help me!"
Electro's shout shocked the rest of his companions into action and they rushed forward, with Kraven sprinting through the grass, Dr. Octopus using his robotic arms like stilts, and Mysterio gliding above the ground with the help of his high-tech suit.
Glancing at his approaching adversaries, Gideon suddenly swung his staff down and to the right catching Electro's beam and deflecting it straight towards Mysterio. The illusionist barely had time to scream before enough electricity to power a city block slammed into his chest and sent him flying backward as he convulsed and seized.
"Shit," Not wanting to cook his ally Electro cut off his electricity and instead charged forward to enter the forey using small blasts of electricity to send himself flying forward.
At the same time, Gideon spun around, holding his staff out horizontally to block Kraven's massive knife as he lunged at him. Catching the hunter's wrist Gideon rolled over onto his back while planting his boot into Kraven's chest kicking him up and over behind him.
Jumping back up to his feet Gideon swerved tilting his body as one of Dr. Octopus' arms shot forward its massive mechanical pincer equipped with a spinning drill head. Another arm followed but Gideon batted it aside with his staff sending it into the ground where it was caught momentarily.
Holding out his free hand Gideon formed a golden stake that he drove through Dr. Octopus' arm with a horrific squeal as sparks and static flew into the air as the complex machinery inside was severed.
The damage was transferred back to Dr. Octopus' mind as an intense burning pain through the brain link melded to his spine and the source of his insanity. The doctor screamed and stumbled back as the rest of his limbs spasmed opening a window for Gideon as he dashed forward and jumped up at Dr. Octopus while swinging his bladed crook.
However, before Gideon could sever Dr. Octopus' head a thick strand of webbing latch onto his wrist and yanked him out of the air. As he was pulled through the air Gideon flipped around catching the strand of webbing inside his crook and slicing through it with ease.
Landing on the ground Gideon paused for a moment before slowly standing, "His radiance warned me that you would interfere."
"Yeah well then he only has himself to blame," Gwen muttered as she vaulted out of the storm drain and landed in the field of grass, "Now stop this before you get someone-"
Before Gwen could finish her sentence, two horrific smells burned her nostrils and she looked over to find the severed halves of Vulture's body and Mysterio lying unresponsive and smoking his suit melted in places and his glass helmet cracked and scorched black.
For a moment Gwen didn't speak and Gideon simply watched her as she slowly turned to face him one more, "What...did you do?"
"They could not be cleansed, so I put a stop to their corruption before it could spread," Gideon replied his voice even but with a righteous fury burning just beneath the surface, "This is the fate that awaits all who resist, Genesis' light!"
