Yuri's eyes stared unblinkingly at the grisly sight in front of her, as she struggled to process the emotions the scene stirred inside of her. While her morality urged her to show compassion and sympathy Yuri's gut and heart rejoiced imagining what must have been final moments of pure agony, "I hope you're burning in hell you rotten piece of shit."
"Yuriko!"
The detective jolted as she spun around and found her Captain, George Stacy walking towards her with purpose, his face that of a man knowing that long restless nights lay ahead of him.
"Captain!" Snapping into a salute, Yuri felt a bead of sweat roll down the back of her neck hoping that her superior hadn't overheard her earlier comment.
Captain Stacy stared at her for a moment as if debating whether to lecture before seemingly deciding that there were more pressing issues, "Enough, now isn't the time for ceremony, tell me what the hell is going on!"
Yuri nodded stiffly before quickly retrieving her notepad and began reading from it, "According to statements from staff people evacuated the building when sounds of a gunfight came from the top floor approximately two hours ago."
"Two hours, and we're just now arriving on the scene?" Captain Stacy questioned with a deep frown.
"It seems that those working in the building forgot to report it," Yuri muttered sarcastically knowing full well that the employees had probably been given deliberate instructions to never call the police, "Regardless I doubt that our presence would have changed anything. There is a great deal of evidence suggesting that the perpetrator used some kind of meta ability or superpowers and given the fact that the conflict reportedly only lasted for a few minutes I believe we are dealing with a rather powerful individual."
Yuri pointedly glanced around at the black tarps strewn about on the floor, which did a poor job of concealing the violent nature of what had occurred, "Most of the victims died due to grievous bodily harm in the form of dismemberment...some of them are little more than chunks."
"And who exactly are the victims?"
Yuri flipped through her notes, "On paper, they're part of the building's security team, but the munition, weapons, and armor they use are all far too advanced for your run-of-the-mill security guard. My bet is on some kind of private army made of specially trained black op force commandos."
Captain Stacey grunted at the bloody picture Yuri painted as he looked around the room noting the deep slices in the plaster and tile floor, "A whole lot of good that did them, but I'd say they got off easy in the long run."
The Captain and Yuri then both looked over at the far wall, where the desecrated body of the former Kinpin hung, suspended above the ground with wooden stakes buried into his massive frame. His once pristine suit now hung off him in pieces, and his eyes and heart had been gouged out, leaving massive gaping cavities void of any light. But most notable was the crimson letting on the wall above Wilson Fisk, who had been turned into a morbid effigy.
'When the Last of Corruption is Scourged we Shall All be One.'
"Well at least we know who the culprit is," Captain Stacy muttered as he shook his head, "The mayor isn't going to be happy about this."
Yuri snorted derisively, "Well maybe if he was more concerned about a mass murderer with superpowers instead of looking good for his reelection and brushing everything under the rung then we could have stopped this from happening."
The captain shot her an admonishing glare but didn't verbally correct her, "There's no point in thinking like that, like it or not this is where we are now and we can't afford to be distracted. Beyond this whole mess, there's about to be a massive uptick in crime. Without Fisk to keep the other crime lords and gangs in check they're going to run rampant trying to establish a new pecking order. Our first priority is to use the short grace period we have to get ahead of this mess before news can spread and people start to get ambitious."
Yuri nodded putting aside her personal feelings momentarily, "I'll get back to the department and start writing up a report."
Captain Stacy nodded, "Good, and while you start on that...I'm afraid I have some phone calls to make."

Raising the martini glass to her lips Emma Frost took a delicate sip letting the refreshing drink cool her down as the sun shone down onto the deck of her private yacht currently docked in the crystal waters of the Mediterranean.
"Pardon me, Ms. Frost, but you have a call."
Putting down her glass Emma wordlessly held out her hand which wrapped around her diamond-encrusted phone as her butler gingerly placed it in her grasp. Looking at the screen Emma's eyebrows rose in faint surprise and she quickly answered the call, "Hello Lourdes, it's been a while."
For a moment Emma was silent as she listened through the phone, but then her smile began to grow into an expression of great satisfaction, "I see, that was faster than I anticipated. One moment dear."
Emma quickly hung up the call and dialed another number which only rang once before it was answered, "Is it done?"
"Indeed, Fisk is no longer an obstacle. Now it's time to hold up on your side of the deal." Emma informed as she sat up from her lounge chair, "How long before the first batch is ready?"
"Thanks to some recent breakthroughs I should be able to ship them out by the end of August. But I must say I've been thinking about our little arrangement recently, and I want to renegotiate."
Emma's eyes narrowed and her voice grew frosty, "We agreed on the terms, it would be...unwise for you to try and change them now."
"No need for threats, the agreements we reached shall remain unchanged, what I wish to negotiate is a new business venture."
"Go on," Emma prompted after pausing for a second.
"I plan on making a bid for mayor and I was hoping I could rely on your support."
"You're going to run for Mayor," Emma replied in a statement rather than a question, it was a proposition she had been expecting for quite some time, "Are you certain that level of public scrutiny is wise with our current ongoing affair?"
"I've done much bolder things with far less cover, all you need to concern yourself with are the results."
Emma smirked, "If you think I let people dictate what I make my concern then you haven't been paying attention. Regardless you are a rather straightforward business partner and will no doubt be a valuable asset to have in my pocket. You'll receive my support in the ballots and I hope you don't disappoint."
Then without another word, Emma hung up putting down her phone and picking up her martini glass once more as if she hadn't just plotted to rig a city-wide election.

Staring at the call-ended notification Norman Osborn resisted the urge to hurl the phone across the room and shatter it into a thousand pieces. Instead, he angrily fixed his tie and calmed himself with a vision of the future, one where he would stand alone at the top of the world. There was no length, no expense, no line he wouldn't cross to achieve his goal.
'No one understands just how much I've sacrificed to reach this point,' Norman consoled himself as he sat down at his desk and pulled up his computer which he opened with a passkey and a series of biometric scans, 'But soon it will all be worth it, everyone who's ever crossed my path will come to regret they didn't bow at my feet.'
