Luna Davenhart was back home doing some research. She wasn't able to identify a drug. She knew it well but wasn't aware which one it was. The impact it had created in her life wasn't small, it was huge. It was the only lead that could make her reach those who should be punished.
She called her best friend. She had intended to call her after she settled in, but she got caught up with work and a lot of other things.
"Hello, have you settled in?" Amelia asked her just as she picked up the call, not even giving her the space to talk.
"Of course I have. And how is work going for you?" she asked. She was well aware that her friend did not like the schedule she was following now. Yet she did the things she loved with great passion, just like her. She preferred to do things by taking her own time, though. That is why she opted for research rather than any other field, so she would be able to take her own time. She, too, was renowned like her in her field, and now she had to follow a schedule as she had been contracted for a major research project.
"Well, I'm surviving and just because of the library, which has extremely cool books near my assigned cabin, I really wish you had been here to check it all out," she said. Books were one of the few other things they shared. They shared the same interests, yet were different.
"Good to know you are doing fine," Luna concluded. If her friend was in the mood to blabber, it meant she was all good. She was her soul sister, she was always blessed to have her in her life.
"Yep. And how about you? How are scrubs and schedules done for you?" she asked. She knew her friend had never exactly gone through real hospital life. She had been swept away by serious work even before she could go through it.
"Great. I'm starting to enjoy it, I have even developed a fear of not wanting to return back to my normal life," she said. She had expressed this worry even to Zoe Grant, even though she knew it wasn't true.
"Ironic, people would die to take your place. You do know that, right?" she questioned her friend. Most well-known people love normal life and sacrifice everything to get back to normal. It isn't that she did not want her friend to follow what she truly craved for, but she knew deep down that if she proceeded, she would regret it soon enough. She was someone who had a deep passion for her job; she didn't want her friend to regret anything.
"I was just saying, sweetheart. And I got a friend slash assistant here. A nice personality, pretty warm and childish," she said. It was better to tell her such things earlier rather than later to avoid her wrath. She knew if Amelia were here,, maybe they would be pretty great together too.
"I can't believe you found someone to replace me so soon," she said dramatically. Luna knew her friend was having her share of fun.
"Nah, how can I ever replace you, sweetie? I just got someone while I'm here. It's pretty boring to be out there alone," she said. It was really boring to be out there without someone to enjoy it with.
"Good, then, I hope you took the necessary measures," Amelia said, not a hint of playfulness in her voice. She knew of the risk that her friend had taken; a precaution was definitely necessary. She didn't want her to brush that possibility out.
"I have, even if I'm sure that she wouldn't utter a word, there are other possibilities too. Don't worry, I'm really careful about my every move," she replied, hoping to soothe the nerves of her friend.
"Just know that I'm here when you need me," she said something that she always said to her, which she had always fulfilled until this very moment.
"I forgot to tell you. I tried every drug you suggested, but it isn't any of them," she replied. She needed to find it soon. It was, after all,, the beginning. This was her friend's area after all; if she had to proceed any further, she would definitely need her help.
"Well, there are some of them that are being sold on the black market. Let me try to obtain them. I will send it to you and let you know once I get hold of them," Amelia said. It was after all her line of work, it wouldn't be that hard for her to obtain.
The Franklin family was pretty well off, but they had been settled overseas for a long time by now. Questioning her influence was of no use. She had pretty great resources and influence.
"Thanks." Suddenly, the doorbell rang. "I guess it's the girl I told you about," she told her.
"Maybe it could be someone else," she said in a tone meant to make fun of her. She was suggesting the presence of an admirer.
"Do you think there is an admirer in my life without my knowledge? I haven't even experienced my first love," Luna said.
"Fine then, I have got work to do myself. I'll call you later," Amelia said in an upset tone. The phone ended and did not even provide her space to ask what was wrong.
As the call with Amelia ended, she went and opened the door. And as expected, it was Zoe. She was, after all, the only one who knew of her new home.
"Can we go on a shopping spree?" Zoe said, not even bothering to enter the house.
"Would it bother you to celebrate inside, then go for a shopping spree?" Luna said, seeing her excitement.
"Actually, yes, it would very much bother me to be inside at the moment. I want to go now and I want no obstacle in my way," she said passionately.
Luna sighed; she did love shopping sprees. Even if she had initially disliked it, thanks to her beloved friend,, it changed.
The way Zoe was treating her now was something she was extremely satisfied with. It was as if she had forgotten who she was. She was just acting like her friend. Her ignorance was something Luna appreciated extremely.
"Give me a moment. I'll get ready in a few moments," she proclaimed and went to dress up. After all, there was no escaping it.
