"I'm not sure about the job exactly," Luna began. "But I've already told you—this is something I need to do. If I tell him… and I will… I know where he's going. But if I get caught, and they don't know I'm there, they might try to hurt me—or even kill me—before Matteo finds out."
"He doesn't know I know he's in the mafia. And if he sees me there, he'll wonder what I'm doing. But I'd rather he know than end up dead without anyone telling him I was watching. That's the real problem. I've thought about it a lot, and I realized—I need to carry.
"Remember that day I told you and Matteo that you guys went to that weird-looking building? That abandoned one… it wasn't even finished. There was that fat guy with a scar on his face. He was bald and had a really scary look. When you two were leaving the place, you heard my footsteps, and you both chased me. But you didn't know it was me.
"What if it wasn't you guys that caught me that day? What if it was someone else? Don't you think it would've ended badly? That's exactly why I need to be ready."
Just then, the waitress came over. "Ma'am, here's your coffee. The one with sugar is yours, right? And the black coffee is for the gentleman?"
"Yes, thank you for the coffee," Luna said.
"Will you be paying by card or cash?" the waitress asked.
"I have cash. Take it," Luna replied, handing over the money and slipping her a $100 tip.
The waitress looked shocked. "Ma'am, I can't possibly take this. It's too much."
"Take it, it's nothing," Luna said casually. Then she reached into her purse again and handed her another bill—$1,000 this time.
The waitress froze. "Ma'am, what's going on? Why are you giving me this much? That's $1,100. The coffee you ordered isn't even worth $20. This tip is way too much."
"Do you want me to add more?" Luna warned with a sly smile. "If you keep arguing, I will."
The waitress lowered her head and thanked her properly, finally accepting the money and walking away to continue her work.
Lorenzo stared at Luna, shaking his head slightly. "Looks like Matteo didn't teach you well. You're acting cocky—strange. Giving someone that much money like it's nothing… he must've spoiled you.
"My wife would never dare do something like that. There's a limit to what she can spend, and she knows it. But you? You're different. You spend money like it means nothing. And I know that's Matteo's fault.
"A woman is supposed to know her place. And from what I see… you don't." He sipped his coffee slowly, his eyes still fixed on her.
"I see now—you don't respect your wife, and you clearly don't respect women either," Luna said sharply. "That's why I have zero respect for you. It's none of your business if I tip someone or not. My husband doesn't mind—he treats me well. So what exactly is your problem?
"If my husband takes care of me and tells me I have no limit to how much I can spend, that's between us. He spoils me, and I love it. It's really good. If I wanted to buy a $10 million mansion, I could do it instantly. Do you know why?
"Let me put it this way—I'm married to the boss of the Italian Mafia. That's right. He's the boss. So you should know, he isn't as cheap as you. If he couldn't take care of a woman properly, he wouldn't be the boss in the first place.
"That's why you'll always be beneath him. And if you don't improve or change your mindset, you're never going to rise in life. Let me say this clearly—watch your mouth. I'm not even trying to surpass him. I like being under him. I love my position, and I'm proud of it.
"Now let's move on. You haven't seen real trouble in the mafia yet. Things have been calm lately, but when war breaks out in the mafia world, there won't be peace—not on the streets, not anywhere.
"I feel like war is coming… between mafias, between different groups. There's going to be chaos. And you? You'd better stay out of it, because you're already too deep and know too much.
