Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Flames Beneath the Surface

Morning sunlight filtered through the carved arches of Floyd's chamber, casting amber hues across the silken sheets and revealing the delicate rise and fall of Sophia's sleeping form beside him. She was curled close, one arm lazily draped across his chest, her soft breath tickling the side of his neck.

Floyd stared at the ceiling for a while, his thoughts a gentle storm.

So this was peace.

Not the kind that came from silence or solitude, but a deeper, more dangerous kind—the peace that made you wish time would stop. The kind that tempted you to believe things would always be this perfect.

Sophia stirred, her eyes fluttering open. She blinked once, then smiled softly, her fingers trailing across his collarbone.

"Morning…" she whispered, voice still husky from sleep.

"Morning," he replied, brushing a lock of hair from her face.

They lay in silence for a while, enjoying the quiet comfort between them. But even as warmth swelled in his chest, Floyd knew the day ahead would not wait.

Training resumed in full force shortly after breakfast. Gabby had scheduled a magic refinement drill for the harem members and senior sect disciples. They gathered in one of the open-air courtyards—massive stone platforms etched with glowing runes, surrounded by waterfalls and spirit trees that shimmered with residual mana.

Floyd stood at the center, wearing a sleeveless training tunic that showed off his lean but defined physique. His arms glowed faintly with suppression bands—a handicap he added just to keep the drills challenging.

The air hummed with tension.

Mina, the former maid turned devoted trainee, was first to step into the ring. Her emerald eyes were locked on Floyd, and she held her staff with a confidence he hadn't seen in her weeks ago.

"Ready?" he asked.

She smirked, twirling the staff once. "Try not to go easy on me just because I bring you tea."

The duel began with a flash—Mina surged forward, invoking a series of water whips that lashed toward him. Floyd deflected them with simple gestures, stepping lightly around her attacks. She pressed harder, trying to catch him off guard with an illusion spell laced into the spray.

Floyd's lips quirked. "Cute trick."

He twisted his fingers mid-air, unraveling the illusion and appearing behind her. Gently, he tapped her shoulder, signaling the end of the round.

Mina huffed, chest rising and falling with exertion, her blouse slightly clinging to her. "You always see through my tricks."

"You're improving," he said with a smile. "You'll surprise me soon."

Her eyes softened, and she lingered in his gaze for a moment longer than necessary. "That sounds like a promise."

Gabby clapped once, stepping forward in her deep blue sparring robes that left little to the imagination. "Alright, lovebirds. My turn."

Floyd chuckled as Mina stepped aside. "Going full force, Fox?"

Gabby cracked her knuckles. "Only if you make me."

She came at him fast, a blur of speed and fire. Her flames curled and shaped into foxes that leapt and pounced. Floyd dodged, redirecting the heat with barriers of air. Gabby feinted high, then dropped low, sweeping his leg. He floated slightly above it, grinning.

Their battle was more like a dance—fiery, intimate, and charged with tension. At one point, she pinned him against a pillar with her magic, her body inches from his, lips curled in a hungry smile.

"Pinned again," she whispered. "Getting rusty?"

He grinned back. "Or letting you win."

She leaned closer, pressing her chest against his. "Mmm. That better not be just talk, Floyd."

From the sidelines, Sophia and Mina crossed their arms, frowning at the closeness.

The training continued for another hour with intense magical drills, sparring, and spiritual focus sessions. Floyd made sure each woman got personal attention and correction—though their reactions to his touch, even as brief as adjusting posture or guiding a hand, grew more... flustered with each session.

Later that afternoon, Floyd made his way to the summit shrine, where Gabrielle—the celestial priestess—meditated in a pool of starlight-infused water. Her long silver-white hair floated behind her, and her skin glowed faintly from the celestial mana coursing through her.

She opened her eyes as he approached.

"Floyd," she said, serene as always. "You're glowing. Love blooming in your heart?"

He chuckled. "Maybe. Or maybe I've just been sparring all day."

Gabrielle smiled gently and rose from the pool, the water cascading off her naked form before her divine garments rewrapped her in radiant silks. Still, Floyd had caught the curve of her figure, the way her breasts gently swayed, and the warmth rising to his cheeks confirmed she intended for him to see.

"I have a vision," she said softly. "Something stirs in the east. A shifting of magical winds. Something ancient."

He nodded. "Do you know what it is?"

"Not yet," she said. "But it's coming closer."

They stood in silence, and then she stepped near him, her fingers gently touching his cheek.

"You carry such burden… yet you smile for us. You burn so brightly, Floyd Jitters."

Her lips brushed his cheek, light as a prayer, but the heat it stirred in him was anything but innocent.

That evening, a feast was prepared in the main hall. Dishes of roasted drake meat, glimmering fruit, and mana-infused wine adorned the table. The atmosphere buzzed with laughter and energy. His sect was thriving, and his harem was growing—not just in numbers, but in depth of feeling.

Each woman wasn't just enchanted by his power… they admired his kindness, his wisdom, his strange blend of maturity and shyness.

And in turn, Floyd was falling too—slowly, sweetly, dangerously.

Later that night, as he walked the halls under the moonlight, Sophia appeared again by his side, her hand slipping into his.

"Are you… happy?" she asked softly.

He looked at her, then up at the stars. "More than I ever thought I could be."

And deep in the night, the moon bearing witness, he held her again—not in hunger or lust, but in something warmer. Something deeper.

But danger loomed, even if they couldn't see it yet.

And the flames beneath the surface were only just beginning to burn.
